Houston Astros RPs Matt Albers (shoulder) and Jesse Crain (biceps) continue to make progress, and general manager Jeff Luhnow is hopeful each will be able to pitch in a game this season. Albers has progressed to throwing in the bullpen, while Crain is still throwing off flat ground.

Houston Astros RP Jesse Crain (shoulder) threw another bullpen session Wednesday, June 4, and continues to make progress.
Fantasy Tip: When the heck will Crain be ready to make his season debut for the 'Stros? It's a question that not many can answer. For now, Chad Qualls is holding down the ninth-inning duties, and Crain isn't likely to immediately change the formula in the back end of the bullpen when he returns. Don't feel compelled to hold onto Crain if you have been.

Houston Astros RP Jesse Crain (shoulder) has thrown off a mound three times already and is hoping to return to game action in late June.
Fantasy Tip: If you've been stashing Crain this entire time in a DL spot, you might as well continue doing it if you can afford to. However, he's no lock to immediately take over the closing duties when he's back, considering Chad Qualls has performed well of late in the role.

Houston Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow said Wednesday, May 21, that he is confident RP Jesse Crain (shoulder) will be able to pitch this season. He has been rehabbing his right shoulder back in Florida after spending the last homestand in Houston.

The Houston Astros are targeting May 29 for when they'd like to have RP Jesse Crain (shoulder) come off the 60-day disabled list, either with the team or in the minors. Crain is dealing mostly with bursitis in his right shoulder now, according to general manager Jeff Luhnow. Crain is only throwing off flat ground right now but is scheduled to jump on a mound in the next few weeks.
Fantasy Tip: Those that drafted and stashed Crain to begin the year might be running out of patience. Sit tight. In his absence, no one arm has emerged as the closer. Josh Fields and Chad Qualls are the main candidates, but Raul Valdes is emerging as an alternative, as well.

Houston Astros RP Jesse Crain (shoulder) has developed bursitis, and his timetable for a return is no longer in early May. He will not be able to start throwing for another week to 10 days.
Fantasy Tip: Josh Fields should continue to see the majority of the save chances in the near future, with Chad Qualls as the primary backup option. If you've been stashing Crain, you'll have to wait a bit longer, but as this point he may not even be guaranteed the ninth-inning job when he returns.

Houston Astros RP Jesse Crain (biceps) said he felt some soreness in his first bullpen session last week, but he said he could still return in early May, even though he's yet to throw off a mound again.
Fantasy Tip: It looks like you'll need to be a bit more patient if you drafted Crain hoping he'd fall right back into the closing duties when he was healthy. Chad Qualls, Matt Albers and Joshua Fields are forming a closer-by-committe in the meantime.

Houston Astros RP Jesse Crain (biceps) will throw his first bullpen of the spring Thursday, March 27.
Fantasy Tip: It's a big step for Crain, who was injured for most of the season last year. Crain should be back early in the season for the Astros if he doesn't suffer any setbacks. He could jump right into the closer's role, too, so it's not a bad idea to stash him on your roster until then.
