Orioles | J.J. Hardy hitless in debut

Thu, 07 May 2015 20:02:44 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SS J.J. Hardy (shoulder) went hitless in four at-bats in his season debut Thursday, May 7.

Fantasy Tip: Hardy ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) has shown decent power from the shortstop position in the past, but some rust is understandable after being sidelined by a shoulder injury. Until he shows signs of swinging the bat well, he can be ignored at FantasyScore.

Orioles | Everth Cabrera to DL

Thu, 07 May 2015 16:12:07 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SS Everth Cabrera (foot) was put on the 15-day disabled list with a bruised left foot Thursday, May 7. SS J.J. Hardy (shoulder) was activated from the DL in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Hardy ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) will immediately return to the starting shortstop duties, and he won't be limited at all. You'll want to give him at least a few games to get back into the swing of things before clicking him at FantasyScore.

Orioles | J.J. Hardy returns to the lineup

Thu, 07 May 2015 13:31:59 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SS J.J. Hardy (shoulder) is batting seventh and playing shortstop against the New York Yankees Thursday, May 7.

Fantasy Tip: This will be Hardy's ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) first game of the season against major league pitching, and FantasyScore players would be wise to take a wait-and-see approach with Hardy. Seasonal owners can take a speculative stab with Hardy, but at 32, his best offensive years are likely in the rear-view mirror.

Orioles | J.J. Hardy proclaims he is ready

Wed, 06 May 2015 22:33:36 -0700

Updating a previous report, Baltimore Orioles SS J.J. Hardy (shoulder) played three games with 12 at-bats at Double-A Bowie, and he proclaimed he is ready to return to the big leagues. "My shoulder is ready," Hardy said Wednesday, May 6. "I got what, 12 at-bats in the last six weeks, so timing is going to be something that I've got to deal with. But I either deal with it up there or here, so if (manager Buck Showalter) wants me to come up, I'm coming up."

Fantasy Tip: It's a good idea to avoid Hardy ($2,900; 5.8% of cap) in FantasyScore until he can officially return and play a handful of games to knock off the rust and get his timing back.

Orioles | J.J. Hardy could join team Thursday

Wed, 06 May 2015 15:52:28 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SS J.J. Hardy (shoulder) could rejoin the team Thursday, May 7, according to manager Buck Showalter.

Fantasy Tip: View Hardy as a risky FantasyScore play until he shakes off the rust with a few hacks at the plate against major league pitchers. He returned high-end power numbers from 2011 to 2013 but fell to just nine home runs last year. Seasonal owners will want to keep their expectations in check for the 32-year-old.

Orioles | J.J. Hardy to return this weekend?

Tue, 05 May 2015 14:52:15 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SS J.J. Hardy (shoulder) played in a rehab game for Double-A Bowie Monday, May 4, and manager Buck Showalter sounded encouraged with Hardy's progress. The team is hoping to activate Hardy from the disabled list this weekend.

Fantasy Tip: Hardy ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) could be just what fantasy baseball owners need who are hurting at shortstop this year. He should immediately enter the starting lineup on a daily basis and will push Everth Cabrera ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) to either a platoon role at second base or to the bench.

Baltimore Orioles SS J.J. Hardy (shoulder) went 2-for-4 with an RBI double Monday, May 4, at Double-A Bowie.

Sun, 03 May 2015 14:53:44 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SS J.J. Hardy (shoulder) will join Double-A Bowie for a rehab assignment on Monday, May 4.

Fantasy Tip: Hardy ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) is close to returning to the Orioles, but keep an eye on how he does back in the big leagues before you put him into your daily league.

Orioles | J.J. Hardy injury update

Fri, 01 May 2015 14:34:41 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SS J.J. Hardy (shoulder) worked out and took batting practice Friday, May 1. Manager Buck Showalter is optimistic Hardy could begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Bowie Monday, May 4.

Fantasy Tip: Continue to monitor Hardy's ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) progress. He'll return to everyday-shortstop duty once he rejoins the O's, however, his best days are likely behind him. He has proven to have nice pop for a middle infielder in the past, but Hardy fell to just nine home runs last season after topping 20 in each of the previous three years. Keep your expectations in check for the 32-year-old, and he may have a slow start upon his return, too.

Orioles | J.J. Hardy feeling better

Wed, 29 Apr 2015 10:29:18 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SS J.J. Hardy (shoulder) will test his left shoulder Wednesday, April 29, and he plans to travel with the team while continuing his rehab. He could play in minor league games shortly after having a cortisone injection over the weekend. Hardy said he's been feeling much better.

Fantasy Tip: The Orioles surely aren't rushing Hardy ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) back to make his season debut. He will immediately return to the starting shortstop duties when he's healthy, pushing Everth Cabrera ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) to second base with Jonathan Schoop out. Cabrera maintains fantasy value in deep mixed leagues and AL-only leagues until Schoop is back.
