The Houston Astros announced Tuesday, Feb. 11, that former Texas Rangers president Nolan Ryan is joining the organization as an advisor to owner Jim Crane, general manager Jeff Luhnow and president Reid Ryan.

Houston Astros owner Jim Crane has arranged to meet Nolan Ryan in person at some point next week. Presumably, the two will discuss a role for the former Texas Rangers CEO with a Houston organization that already features his son Reid as its president of business operations.

The Texas Rangers announced Friday, Oct. 25, that Ray Davis will succeed Nolan Ryan as the owner of the team. Ryan is resigning at the end of the month and will sell his ownership stake to Davis and Bob Simpson, the team's co-chairmen.

The Astros will introduce Reid Ryan at a Friday, May 17, news conference. The hiring of Reid Ryan will end a short search for a new president after George Postolos announced his resignation Monday, May 13.

Sources indicate Texas Rangers CEO Nolan Ryan could leave the team as soon as the end of spring training. In a recent reorganization Ryan's title with the team remains as CEO. Sources say general manager Jon Daniels now has final say over all baseball decisions and Rick George has the final say over business decisions.

Texas Rangers team president Nolan Ryan said he expects 3B/DH Michael Young to return to the club in some capacity. "Yes, I do. Michael is our veteran player. He played a role this year as DH and as the ultimate utility man for us, and so do I expect him back? Yeah. And do I think he'll play that role? Yeah, I do in some degree in that role," Ryan told KESN-FM (103.3) in Dallas.
