Updating a previous report, St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday (side) is fine after being hit by a pitch Monday, March 23. Manager Mike Matheny said Holliday's early exit was more related to the rainy weather than the injury. "He probably would have run," Matheny said. "But once the conditions started getting bad, as soon as it starts raining, I'm usually going to try to get the guys out."
Fantasy Tip: As expected, it wasn't a serious injury, and Holliday ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) remains an excellent mid-round target in drafts leading into the season. The Cardinals open their year against the Chicago Cubs, and Holliday has 21 home runs, 60 RBI and a .307/.402/.523 slash line through 107 games against Chicago over his career. At his modest FantasyScore price, Holliday warrants consideration for utilizing in contests.

St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday (side) was hit by a pitch in his left side and left the game in the fifth inning Monday, March 23.
Fantasy Tip: It likely isn't serious, as Holliday made it to first base before he was lifted from the game and regulars often exit early anyway. Still, it is worth checking back for an update. Holliday picked up his offensive in the second half last season, as he hit 16 home runs and drove in 45 RBI with a .281/.367/.515 slash line. At 35, the reliable veteran still helps in four categories and warrant attention in the early middle rounds of drafts. Don't be surprised to see more flashy names carrying higher risk selected ahead of him in drafts, either.

The St. Louis Cardinals are considering moving 3B Matt Carpenter out of the leadoff spot, in an effort to upgrade their offense. Carpenter could be moved to the No. 2 spot in the batting order, where some members of the organization believe the best hitter should hit, or he could be dropped to the No. 3 spot, with OF Matt Holliday becoming the cleanup hitter. "He's been so successful in the one hole," general John Mozeliak said. "He gets on base and along with that all of the positives of a leadoff hitter. But moving him deeper into that lineup is something that (manager Mike Matheny) has thought about in terms of implementing. It's just he and I talking out loud right now."
