Phillies | Tommy Joseph on the bench

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 15:02:11 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Tommy Joseph is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, June 28. 1B Ryan Howard is starting at first base and is batting cleanup against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Zack Greinke.

Fantasy Tip: Joseph is hitting a miserable .218 (19-for-87) in June but does have five home runs and 10 RBI. His average on the season is down to .234, and his struggles have made him unusable in most mixed leagues lately. Howard has had his own similar struggles this year (.153-11-24), and he can't be trusted in any fantasy format tonight against Greinke.

Phillies | Tommy Joseph remains sidelined

Fri, 24 Jun 2016 17:04:19 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Tommy Joseph (illness) is not in the starting lineup against San Francisco Giants SP Jake Peavy Friday, June 24. 1B Ryan Howard will start at first base and is batting fourth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Howard is coming off a two-hit game with a home run in the last game but is still hitting .150 this season. Owners should continue to avoid Howard for the time being.

Phillies | Ryan Howard slugs 11th homer

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 15:51:07 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard went 2-for-5 with his 11th home run of the season Thursday, June 23, versus the Minnesota Twins. He finished the game with one run scored and one RBI.

Fantasy Tip: Howard's home run total up to this point in the campaign may be acceptable, but everything else featured in his stat line simply is not. With a disgusting .150/.204/.350 line, the former NL MVP has become one of the least valuable players in all of fantasy baseball, and is better off being left on the bench. The bad far outweighs the good in his case.

Phillies | Ryan Howard in starting lineup

Wed, 22 Jun 2016 14:54:33 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard will serve as the designated hitter against Minnesota Twins SP Kyle Gibson Wednesday, June 22, and is batting fourth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Howard has only two hits in his 28 at-bats this month and is hitting .140 this season. Owners in all leagues should be able to find better options to use in their lineups.

Phillies | Ryan Howard will be DH

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 14:53:52 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard will serve as the designated hitter against Minnesota Twins SP Tyler Duffey Tuesday, June 21, and is hitting fourth.

Fantasy Tip: Howard has struggled at the plate the entire season, so owners should avoid him even though he has power potential.

Phillies | Philadelphia resting four players

Sat, 18 Jun 2016 09:12:05 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Tommy Joseph, C Cameron Rupp, 2B Cesar Hernandez and OF Peter Bourjos are not in the starting lineup against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Zack Greinke Saturday, June 18. 2B Andres Blanco will start at second base and is batting third. 1B Ryan Howard will start at first base and is batting fourth. OF Jimmy Paredes will start in right field and is batting fifth, while C Carlos Ruiz will start at catcher and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Blanco, Howard and Ruiz are all hitting less than .200 over the last seven days and probably should be avoided in most fantasy leagues. Paredes is performing a little better at the plate over that span, but owners should be able to find better options for their lineups.

Phillies | Ryan Howard in at DH again

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 07:41:16 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard is the designated hitter and hitting fifth against the Toronto Blue Jays Tuesday, June 14.

Fantasy Tip: Howard went yard yesterday but has a lackluster matchup in Marcus Stroman. He's an all-or-nothing play in the low end in DFS.

Phillies | Ryan Howard draws in as DH

Mon, 13 Jun 2016 13:00:32 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard is batting fifth as the designated hitter against Toronto Blue Jays SP R.A. Dickey Monday, June 13.

Fantasy Tip: Howard has been relegated to a bench role with the emergence of first baseman Tommy Joseph, and he isn't worth a roster spot outside of cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues. He is a potential low-priced flier for daily contests Monday, though.

Phillies | Ryan Howard back to the bench

Fri, 10 Jun 2016 11:43:41 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard is back on the bench Friday, June 10. 1B Tommy Joseph is starting at first base and is hitting cleanup against Washington Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg.

Fantasy Tip: Howard should see occasional starts at first to spell Joseph, but despite nine homers and 20 RBI, his .150/.213/.346 slash line makes him more of a bench player for the foreseeable future. Leave him to NL-only leagues for power. Joseph has impressed in limited at-bats with a power stroke of his own, but he's more of a sleeper pick in daily formats tonight against Strasburg.

Phillies | Ryan Howard starting again

Wed, 08 Jun 2016 09:12:22 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard is in the starting lineup again and is hitting fifth against Chicago Cubs SP John Lackey Wednesday, June 8. 1B Tommy Joseph will start on the bench again.

Fantasy Tip: Howard may have earned himself another start with his ninth homer of the year Tuesday night, but he's still only hitting .153/.217/.353 on the season. Furthermore, he's batting only .188 (3-for-17) with two home runs in his career against Lackey. Howard is a boom-or-bust option in DFS and it's hard to justify keeping him on roster in many mixed leagues.
