Seattle Mariners OF Corey Hart is tentatively slated to hit cleanup behind 2B Robinson Cano. "If he's healthy," manager Lloyd McClendon said, "he should have a real big year." McClendon would also like to see if Hart can play the outfield regularly. "We'd like to see him out there for 145 games," McClendon said. "That would be outstanding. I think it's premature to say that (will happen) right now."

Seattle Mariners 1B Justin Smoak said first base is still his job to lose this year, but he'll be competing with 1Bs Logan Morrison and Corey Hart for the job. Smoak's $3.65 million option for the 2015 season will be guaranteed if he has 525 plate appearances this season. Manager Lloyd McClendon wants Smoak to focus on being a complete hitter this year, not a home run hitter. "He's going to play first base and DH a little bit," McClendon said. "One thing I know is the manager doesn't make out the lineup."

Seattle Mariners OF Corey Hart (knees) has ramped up his activities to running the bases, and he's feeling much better about his surgically repaired knees. "I haven't gotten on the field yet to do fly balls, but I've been doing simulated ground balls to work on my footwork and agility. It's been progressing. I've been able to do everything. It's been nice."
The M's are hoping to put Hart in the outfield for a significant amount of time this year, and they're willing to wait to see if he can handle the workload. General manager Jack Zduriencik and manager Lloyd McClendon have talked of a three-man rotation between Hart and 1Bs Logan Morrison and Justin Smoak between first base and designated hitter. Hart isn't worried about regaining his timing at the plate, just how his knees will hold up.

The Seattle Mariners are comfortable going with a rotation of OF Corey Hart, 1B Justin Smoak and 1B Logan Morrison at first base and designated hitter. Hart may even drop out of the rotation as his knees get better and he sees more outfield duty.

"I've been running the bases and doing baseball stuff," Hart said. "I haven't gotten on the field yet to do fly balls, but I've been doing simulated ground balls to work on my footwork and agility. It's been progressing. I've been able to do everything."
