Blue Jays | Edwin Encarnacion drives in four

Sat, 25 Jun 2016 15:03:13 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Edwin Encarnacion scored twice and finished 3-for-4 with a RBI double in the first inning, a two-run single in the fourth and an RBI double in the ninth against the Chicago White Sox on Saturday, June 25.

Fantasy Tip: This is how to make a statement in a contract year. Encarnacion leads the majors with 66 RBI, including 26 in June, and has nine homers to go along with 14 extra-base hits this month as well. He is an elite option in every format and needs to be in fantasy lineups every day.

Blue Jays | Justin Smoak on the bench

Sat, 25 Jun 2016 08:38:25 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Justin Smoak is not in the starting lineup against Chicago White Sox SP Miguel Gonzalez Saturday, June 25. 1B Edwin Encarnacion will start at first base, while 3B Josh Donaldson will serve as the designated hitter. 2B Ryan Goins will start at third base and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Goins is hitting only .175 this season and probably should be avoided in most fantasy leagues. Encarnacion and Donaldson should be a starter in all fantasy leagues.

Blue Jays | Justin Smoak not starting

Sun, 19 Jun 2016 09:04:47 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Justin Smoak is not in the starting lineup against Baltimore Orioles SP Chris Tillman Sunday, June 19. 1B Edwin Encarnacion will start at first base Sunday. 3B Josh Donaldson will serve as the designated hitter, while 2B Darwin Barney will start at third base and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Barney has been a bit inconsistent at the plate over the last few weeks and has four hits in his last six games. Barney can be a sleeper option in some daily fantasy leagues but probably should be avoided in most leagues.

Blue Jays | Edwin Encarnacion jammed finger Sunday

Mon, 13 Jun 2016 13:24:12 -0700

Updating a previous report, Toronto Blue Jays 1B Edwin Encarnacion (finger) jammed his right index finger sliding into third base Sunday, June 12, which is part of the reason he is sitting out against the Philadelphia Phillies Monday, June 13.

Fantasy Tip: Encarnacion was expected to receive a night off sooner than later, so don't read too much into the finger injury. It is likely a minor ailment, and Encarnacion projects to be back in the lineup Tuesday, June 14. Check back for an update on his status.

Blue Jays | Edwin Encarnacion sitting vs. Phillies

Mon, 13 Jun 2016 12:38:33 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 1B Edwin Encarnacion is receiving a routine night off Monday, June 13. OF Ezequiel Carrera draws into the lineup in right field and is batting sixth against Philadelphia Phillies SP Jerad Eickhoff Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Sub out Encarnacion where you can in seasonal leagues. While his .247/.327/.490 slash line is a little below what we've come to expect from Encarnacion, his 15 homers and 54 RBI are as advertised. Continue to view him as a high-end fantasy option. Carrera is a viable flier in daily contests Monday, and he remains a viable depth piece in cavernous mixed and AL-only formats.
