New York Mets 3B David Wright (back) said he will play again, but he is not optimistic about returning this season. He added he will lose about 5% mobility because of the fusion surgery, but suggested that would be a non-issue, and his neck otherwise should be as good as new. He had a significant rupture to a disk that needed to be removed, as well as fragments that needed to come out.
Fantasy Tip: Wright is a low-end stash in deep keeper/dynasty formats, and he shouldn't be owned in any yearly setups. Jose Reyes projects to take over the hot corner soon, and he's worth owning in all fantasy leagues because of his speed.

The New York Mets have expressed interest in trading for Oakland Athletics 3B Danny Valencia, in the wake of 3B David Wright (neck) opting to undergo neck surgery that could sideline him for the remainder of the 2016 season.
Fantasy Tip: The 31-year-old Valencia is enjoying a career year, batting .327 with 10 home runs and 26 RBI in 171 at-bats entering play Friday, June 17, and he is a viable option in all fantasy formats. INF Wilmer Flores, who is receiving the bulk of the action at third base for the Mets now, would revert back to being used as a super-utility player if Valencia is acquired.

New York Mets 3B David Wright (neck) underwent a successful cervical discectomy and fusion surgery, Thursday, June 16, according to the team. There has been no timetable announced.
Fantasy Tip: The early estimations are that Wright will miss the rest of the season. Even if he is able to make it back this year, it wouldn't be until months down the line, and even then it's uncertain if he could be trusted in any fantasy format. His owners should be expecting the worst. Wilmer Flores and Kelly Johnson each get boosts while Wright is sidelined indefinitely.

Updtaing a previous report, New York Mets 3B David Wright (neck) is expected to require three to six months of recovery from his upcoming neck surgery. The timeline makes a return during the 2016 season highly unlikely.
Fantasy Tip: View Wright as a desperation stash in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues, and look to replace him in all shallower setups. Wilmer Flores and Kelly Johnson project to split starts at the hot corner, but neither are anything more than low-end options in the deepest of formats. Dilson Herrera is a player to watch, as he has a .296/.344/.510 slash line with Class AAA Las Vegas and could find his way to the majors sooner than later.

New York Mets 3B David Wright (neck) will undergo surgery to repair a herniated disc in his neck.
Fantasy Tip: There's no timetable for his return, but it could be a season-ending operation. There was a report the team wasn't interested in Jose Reyes, but he would make a lot of sense now. Otherwise, Wilmer Flores and Kelly Johnson figure to see the most action at third. Flores has NL-only value because he hit 16 homers last season, but KJ doesn't at this point. If you own Wright, he's more of a name than a contributor anymore. You can hold onto him in deeper leagues, but cut bait elsewhere.
