Mets | David Wright abandoned leg kick

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 12:02:25 -0700

New York Mets 3B David Wright started using a leg kick this spring in order to alleviate some of the strain his torque-heavy swing put on his back. The move also was sought to find a "rhythm" that he thought his swing was lacking last season. However, Wright abandoned the leg kick Tuesday, April 26, for the first time this year. Heading into Tuesday Wright ranked second in the National League with 26 strikeouts. With his leg kick, he wasn't using the middle of the field like he had before in his career, hitting the ball to the center of the field just 17% of the time.

Fantasy Tip: Wright had a hot start to the year but has since gone 4-for-26 (.154) with no home runs and three RBI in his last six games. His average is down to .232 with two home runs. Wright's injury issues are well-documented in the past few years, and his skills at the plate have declined with age. You shouldn't have been expecting much more than low-end third base output from Wright from the beginning.

Mets | David Wright, Travis d'Arnaud out

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 09:18:24 -0700

New York Mets 3B David Wright and C Travis d'Arnaud are not in the starting lineup against Atlanta Braves SP Aaron Blair Sunday, April 24. INF Wilmer Flores will play the hot corner and bat sixth, while C Kevin Plawecki will bat seventh and start behind the plate.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure Wright and d'Arnaud are removed from all fantasy lineups Sunday. Both Flores and Plawecki should be viewed as inexpensive flier options for daily contests.

Mets | David Wright hits well in Philly

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 09:53:36 -0700

New York Mets 3B David Wright hit two home runs on the road against the Philadelphia Phillies Monday, April 18, and he now has 22 home runs there, which is eight more than any other visiting player. Both of Wright's home runs Monday were to the opposite field. He is hitting .289 with a .426 on-base percentage and .526 slugging percentage.

Fantasy Tip: Wright said he likes hitting in Philadelphia, but the main point is that he looks completely healthy after missing four months with spinal stenosis last season. That doesn't mean he'll be a lock to return to the 20-homer mark in 2016, but it's good news if you took a cheap flyer on Wright in your draft as corner infield depth.

Mets | Captain America launches two HRs

Mon, 18 Apr 2016 20:54:12 -0700

New York Mets 3B David Wright went 2-for-5 with a pair of solo home runs Monday, April 18, against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Fantasy Tip: The homers and RBIs were the first two of the season for Wright. He is hitting a solid .289 on the season, and he has re-emerged as a must-start in NL-only fantasy leagues and some mixed formats. So far, so good with his lumbar spinal stenosis issue.

Mets | David Wright out against Cleveland

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 07:24:09 -0700

New York Mets 3B David Wright is not in the starting lineup Sunday, April 17. SS Wilmer Flores is starting at third base and batting seventh against Cleveland Indians SP Corey Kluber Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Wright in all fantasy formats Sunday. And his value is fading, as the veteran is still without a home run or RBI through nine games to start the season. Flores has upside, but it is a daunting matchup against Kluber, so it isn't the best spot to take a flier on the infielder.

Mets | Leadoff hitter plaguing Mets

Tue, 12 Apr 2016 06:42:36 -0700

New York Mets 3B David Wright has no RBIs in his first 19 at-bats, in part, because the Mets' leadoff hitters are hitless in their last 20 at-bats.

Fantasy Tip: Wright is hitting .316 with three doubles and two steals. Health is always a question, but he looks like a midrange third baseman that could outperform his draft spot. Curtis Granderson has one hit in 24 at-bats (.042), which is bound to turn around eventually. He's a low-end OF option most days.

Mets | David Wright returns to lineup Sunday

Sun, 10 Apr 2016 08:54:44 -0700

New York Mets 3B David Wright is back in the starting lineup versus Philadelphia Phillies SP Jeremy Hellickson Sunday, April 10, batting second.

Fantasy Tip: Wright was out of the lineup Saturday, April 9, because the Mets want to give him more off days after he missed four months last season due to spinal stenosis in his lower back. He is 2-for-11 through his first three games of the year.

Mets | David Wright gets a day off Saturday

Sat, 09 Apr 2016 14:12:30 -0700

New York Mets 3B David Wright is out of the lineup against Philadelphia Phillies SP Vincent Velasquez on Saturday, April 9. SS Wilmer Flores will replace Wright in the field and bat seventh.

Fantasy Tip: The forecast calls for temperatures in the high 30s with a fairly decent chance of precipitation, so New York is probably smart to play it safe here. Flores is a decent option for Wright owners and a serviceable inexpensive play in DFS leagues, but most owners can leave him on waivers for now.

Mets | David Wright to rest Saturday

Fri, 08 Apr 2016 13:36:26 -0700

New York Mets 3B David Wright is scheduled to rest Saturday, April 9, and he'll be back in the lineup Sunday, April 10.

Fantasy Tip: The Mets plan to rest Wright often this year after he missed four months with spinal stenosis in his lower back in 2015. Keep him out of lineups tomorrow and continue to monitor his workload. Wright's power is on the decline mainly due to injuries, and he's safer as corner infield insurance in traditional mixed leagues.

Mets | David Wright steals two bags

Tue, 05 Apr 2016 16:33:24 -0700

New York Mets 3B David Wright finished 1-for-3 with two walks and two stolen bases in a victory over the Kansas City Royals Tuesday, April 5.

Fantasy Tip: Wright had a total of 10 stolen bases in the past two years combined, so this is a bit of a shock. While Wright is unlikely to return to double digits in steals, this could be a good sign that his back is fully healthy. Expect Wright to be rested plenty this year, and his power numbers aren't what they used to be. He's more of corner infield depth in mixed leagues.
