Cardinals | Larry Fitzgerald contract update

Fri, 27 Feb 2015 13:50:31 -0800

Updating a previous report, Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald is scheduled to count $10.85 million against the salary cap in 2015 and $15.85 million in 2016. His contract will void after two seasons, and the Cardinals will have $4.85 million of dead money on their salary cap in 2017 and 2018.

Fantasy Tip: Fitzgerald was limited to 784 yards and two touchdowns this past season but should have a better season with Carson Palmer returning. Owners probably should consider Fitzgerald as a No. 3 wide receiver in drafts next season with the chance be become a No. 2 receiver.

Cardinals | Larry Fitzgerald can't be traded

Sat, 21 Feb 2015 11:06:15 -0800

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald had a no-trade clause included in his new four-year deal, which prevents the Cardinals from using Fitzgerald in any trade talks.

Fantasy Tip: It's no guarantee that Fitzgerald will find renewed success in light of his new deal, though he could be more motivated with a healthy Carson Palmer returning, on top of the fresh contract. Fitzgerald is coming off a two-touchdown 2014 season, the lowest of any season in his career. He should probably be considered a high-end WR3 with WR2 potential.

Cardinals | Cards could save $9 million with Fitz

Fri, 13 Feb 2015 10:01:20 -0800

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald would save the team $9.2 million in salary cap space if they were to outright release him, but the Cardinals have no plans to go down that road. A trade is actually more of a possibility than an outright release, and the Cardinals would gain $16 million in cap space if they traded Fitzgerald away.

Fantasy Tip: All signs point to Fitzgerald returning to the Cardinals in 2015. Fitz saw his production drop significantly last year. He had just two touchdowns on 63 catches for 784 yards. In his defense, after Carson Palmer went down with an injury, Arizona's QB situation didn't help his cause at all. However, even with a healthy Palmer in 2015, expect Fitzgerald to continue aging. He'll likely be no more than a WR4 or flex option in standard leagues.

Cardinals | Cardinals, Larry Fitzgerald begin talks

Thu, 12 Feb 2015 17:53:25 -0800

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald and the team have begun working on an agreement that would keep Fitzgerald with the Cardinals long term while providing the team with relief from his $23 million scheduled cap hit.

Fantasy Tip: Both sides have been optimistic about a deal being worked out up to this point. Fitzgerald's days as a top receiver are likely over, but if he returns to the Cardinals, he should produce WR3 numbers with Carson Palmer back under center.

Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said he is worried about the prospect of WR Larry Fitzgerald playing elsewhere next season and "desperately" wants him to stay with the team.

Cardinals | Larry Fitzgerald contract to be done quickly?

Sat, 31 Jan 2015 09:21:40 -0800

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald's new deal could get done quickly following the Super Bowl, according to team president Michael Bidwill. Fitzgerald has already said he wants to get a new deal done and stay with the team. He is slated to earn $16.25 million in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: It sounds like Fitzgerald will probably be staying in Arizona at this point. Still, he's on the last lap of his career and is coming off a career-low two touchdowns last season. Consider him a No. 2 wide receiver heading into 2015.

Cardinals | Larry Fitzgerald contract should get done

Thu, 29 Jan 2015 14:52:25 -0800

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald's new contract should be able to get worked out this offseason, according to team president Michael Bidwill. "Larry and I have met about it, and I know he's interested in getting something resolved," Bidwill said. "I think we'll get this all worked out."

Fantasy Tip: New contract or not, Fitzgerald is on the tail end of his career at this point and is coming off a career-low two touchdowns in 2014. He should be considered no more than a low-end No. 2 heading into the offseason.

Cardinals | Larry Fitzgerald talks going well

Fri, 16 Jan 2015 17:30:33 -0800

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald's preliminary contract talks continue to go well, according to team president Michael Bidwell, and Bidwell said he believes Fitzgerald will be a member of the Cardinals next year.

Fantasy Tip: If Fitzgerald does return to the Cardinals, a healthy Carson Palmer under center should help him return to fantasy relevance. That being said, he is no longer an elite wide receiver and will likely be more of a matchup play.

Cardinals | Larry Fitzgerald starts contract talks

Fri, 09 Jan 2015 10:22:08 -0800

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald and the team have had positive preliminary contract talks, according to sources. However, money has yet to be discussed. Fitzgerald is due an $8 million bonus if he's on the roster March 17, and his cap figure for next year is scheduled to be $23.6 million. Arizona is hoping to lower that cap number by signing Fitzgerald to a new deal worth less money. The team also hasn't ruled out the thought of trading the star receiver. Releasing Fitzgerald would save the team $9.2 million in cap space in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Fitzgerald is nearing the twilight of his great career. He struggled to make an impact this year because of nagging injuries and issues for the team at quarterback. If he can stay healthy next season, though, the return of Carson Palmer should help. However, Fitzgerald is probably nothing more than a WR3 moving forward.

Cardinals | Larry Fitzgerald situation progressing

Tue, 06 Jan 2015 15:45:21 -0800

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald and the team have reportedly both made positive movement regarding Fitzgerald's contract.

Fantasy Tip: If Fitzgerald were to return with a healthy Carson Palmer at quarterback, he could still be considered a WR2. Though, something has to be said about his career-low two touchdowns this year.

Patriots | Larry Fitzgerald may be option for Pats

Sun, 04 Jan 2015 09:59:33 -0800

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald could receive interest from the New England Patriots if he is released by the Cardinals this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Fitzgerald's future with Arizona is in question because of his $16.25 million salary in 2015 and $23.6 salary cap figure. The Patriots could show interest since they do not have many big name receivers. Fitzgerald's fantasy value for 2015 would go up if he joined the Patriots.

Sat, 03 Jan 2015 19:28:48 -0800

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald said it was too soon to think about his future with the team following a 27-16 loss to the Carolina Panthers Saturday, Jan. 3.

Fantasy Tip: Fitzgerald's large salary cap number could have him playing elsewhere next season. His fantasy value for next year will be largely dependent on where he ends up.

Sat, 03 Jan 2015 09:53:56 -0800

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald is expected to be asked to take a pay cut this offseason, because he is scheduled to make $15 million in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: There is a chance that Fitzgerald could be cut this offseason because of his salary. Fitzgerald likely would see a boost in his fantasy value if he is playing for another team next season. Owners should monitor this situation during the offseason.

Cardinals | Larry Fitzgerald may not return

Wed, 31 Dec 2014 16:20:23 -0800

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald does not expect to be back with the team in 2015, according to a source. Fitzgerald is scheduled to count $23.6 million against the salary cap next season and likely will not restructure his contract again. Fitzgerald is also not happy with his role in the offense and that he is no longer a focal point.

Fantasy Tip: Fitzgerald caught 63 passes for 784 yards this season, which are his lowest totals since his rookie season. He also caught a career-low two touchdowns in 2014. Fitzgerald could receive more fantasy value if he moves to another team during the offseason. Fitzgerald probably would be a mid-round option in most drafts no matter which team he joins.

Cardinals | Larry Fitzgerald still in AZ's plans

Mon, 22 Dec 2014 10:04:02 -0800

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald will be with the team for at least another season, according to general manager Steve Keim. Keim said the team has already "baked" Fitzgerald's $23.6 million cap hit in their 2015 financials. "We have to make good business decisions," Keim said. "I don't think it's any secret that we said all along that it's our intent to have Larry Fitzgerald retire a Cardinal." Fitzgerald is scheduled to make $16.25 million next season, but he could still be traded or rework his contract.

Fantasy Tip: Fitzgerald has lost a step as he ages, and he's no longer an elite receiver or a WR1 for fantasy football. For FantasyScore purposes, you should continue to look to avoid him in Week 17 against the San Francisco 49ers with Ryan Lindley or Logan Thomas at the helm.

Fri, 19 Dec 2014 15:08:43 -0800

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald (knee) fully participated in practice Friday, Dec. 19, and is listed as probable for Week 16.

Cardinals | Larry Fitzgerald a full participant

Thu, 18 Dec 2014 17:30:26 -0800

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald (knee) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Dec. 18.

Cardinals | Larry Fitzgerald fastest to 900 catches

Fri, 12 Dec 2014 09:10:11 -0800

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald had seven catches for just 30 yards in the team's Week 15 win over the St. Louis Rams Thursday, Dec. 11, but he became the youngest player to 900 catches. In 22 career games against the Rams, he has 128 catches and 16 touchdowns, which is the most against any other opponent.

Fantasy Tip: Fitzgerald's fantasy football value has shriveled down because of the situation at quarterback in Arizona. With Drew Stanton (knee) possibly facing a serious injury, it may even get worse in the final couple of weeks, too. It's probably smart to avoid Fitz at FantasyScore from here on out.

Cardinals | Cards better with Fitzgerald playing

Thu, 11 Dec 2014 16:56:03 -0800

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald has been key to the team's and QB Drew Stanton's success this year. The Cardinals lost both of the games that Fitzgerald sat out with a knee injury, and Stanton has thrown just one touchdown and four interceptions and is averaging a paltry 6.6 yards per pass attempt without Fitz, according to ESPN Stats & Information. Stanton has thrown six touchdowns and just one interception with Fitzgerald playing, and his yards per attempt rises to 7.7. Fitzgerald caught four of his nine targets for 34 yards in Week 14.

Fantasy Tip: While it's a good thing that Fitzgerald ($5,800) is back playing, he and Stanton ($4,600) are facing a nasty St. Louis Rams defense Thursday night. They aren't the most intriguing options for FantasyScore lineups this week.

The Arizona Cardinals believe WR Larry Fitzgerald (knee) will be back in action for the Sunday, Dec. 7 contest against the Kansas City Chiefs, although he will test the knee before the game to make sure.

Fantasy Tip: As stated previously, Fitzgerald's $5,900 FantasyScore salary may best be left stashed on the bench. Although the team believes he is likely to play, Fitzgerald may be worked slowly back into the lineup and the Cardinals are playing a tough Kansas City squad.

Cardinals | Larry Fitzgerald limited at practice

Wed, 03 Dec 2014 15:53:45 -0800

Fantasy Tip: Fitzgerald ($5,900) continues to be a FantasyScore risk with his knee injury, and the Kansas City Chiefs, the Cardinals' Week 14 opponent, have been adequate at holding down opposing receivers. Not helping matters is the fact that Drew Stanton has struggled mightily in recent weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Fitzgerald has been optimistic about his return, but he'll likely be a game-time decision Sunday afternoon, making him risky at FantasyScore. John Brown ($4,800; 9.6% of your cap) could see more targets and is a decent WR3 on FantasyScore this week.

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald (knee) felt some progress in his sprained left medial collateral ligament Tuesday, Nov. 25, according to head coach Bruce Arians. Fitzgerald was pretty upset that he was unable to play in Week 12.

Fantasy Tip: Fitzgerald ($5,900) will do everything in his power to play against the Atlanta Falcons this weekend. The Falcons are a great matchup for wide receivers, too, but even if Fitz plays, his mobility is likely to be limiting, making him an unattractive FantasyScore option.

Cardinals | Larry Fitzgerald's status uncertain

Mon, 24 Nov 2014 16:47:25 -0800

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald (knee) is unsure when he will return from his knee injury, according to head coach Bruce Arians. "We still don't know anything about Larry," Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said. "If we were practicing today, he would not practice. We'll see how he improves by Wednesday and go from there." General manager Steve Keim said Fitzgerald remains day-to-day a week after suffering a Grade 2 medial collateral ligament sprain. He was a game-time decision in Week 12 but "couldn't run," which led him to be inactive.

Fantasy Tip: The Cards' passing game struggled big time without Fitz, and Michael Floyd didn't even have a reception. If Fitzgerald returns to face the Atlanta Falcons this Sunday, he should gain your attention at FantasyScore. Atlanta has allowed 25.65 fantasy points to wideouts per game this season.
