Blue Jays | Jose Bautista has turf toe

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 15:32:31 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista (toe) has been diagnosed with turf toe and is expected to remain in a walking boot for a few more weeks.

Fantasy Tip: It appears that Bautista will not return before the All-Star break, so owners should continue to keep an eye on the situation. Ezequiel Carrera has received most of the work while Bautista has been sidelined and is a fine option for owners if he is available in their leagues.

Blue Jays | Ezequiel Carrera belts third homer

Sat, 18 Jun 2016 15:51:41 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Ezequiel Carrera connected on a solo shot for his only hit in three at-bats in a loss against the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday, June 18. Carrera received another start in right field in place of Jose Bautista, who was placed on the disabled list Friday, June 17, with a toe injury.

Fantasy Tip: All Carrera has done this season is produce when given the opportunity, batting .326 with three homers, six RBI and three steals while scoring 23 runs and logging just over half of his 95 at-bats out of the leadoff spot. With Bautista sidelined for at least two more weeks, the 29-year-old Venezuelan is set to bat atop the order of what had been a resurgent offense prior to Saturday. Particularly against left-handed starters, Carrera should be a sneaky good play in DFS while Bautista is away.

Blue Jays | Jose Bautista has sprained toe

Fri, 17 Jun 2016 16:46:22 -0700

Updating previous reports, Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista (toe) is dealing with a sprained left big toe, and he was wearing a walking boot Friday, June 17. A preliminary exam didn't show any fractures, but Bautista will have further testing to determine the severity of the injury. He's hitting .230 with 12 home runs and an American League-high 48 walks in 65 games.

Fantasy Tip: Joey Bats isn't hitting for average these days, but he has big-time power and is a big asset in leagues that count on-base percentage. He should be stashed everywhere. In the meantime, Ezequiel Carrera becomes a starter in the outfield and is worth a pickup in the majority of leagues.

Blue Jays | Jose Bautista to see specialists

Fri, 17 Jun 2016 13:28:31 -0700

Updating a previous report, Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista (toe) will have his left toe examined by specialists to determine the severity and nature of his injury. The toe is not believed to be fractured.

Fantasy Tip: Stay tuned for updates on the severity of Bautista's injury and how long he'll be on the disabled list. Ezequiel Carrera should receive close to full-time starts for the duration of Bautista's absence, which makes Carrera a fleeting option in the majority of fantasy formats.

Blue Jays | Jose Bautista placed on disabled list

Fri, 17 Jun 2016 12:55:54 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista (toe) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a left toe injury Friday, June 17. In a corresponding move, OF Darrell Ceciliani was recalled from Class AAA Buffalo.

Fantasy Tip: Bautista is a must-stash bat in all setups. His transition to the leadoff spot has hurt his RBI total a bit, but he still sits with a solid 41 runs, 12 home runs and 41 RBI for the season. It is also worth acknowledging that Bautista has become much more valuable in leagues using on-base percentage instead of batting average, as his .230/.360/.455 slash line and 48 walks highlight. Ceciliani doesn't project to see much playing time and can be avoided in all leagues. Ezequiel Carrera, however, should see close to full-time at-bats, and he's proven to be a viable fantasy option when given an opportunity. He has fleeting value in the majority of leagues for the duration of Bautista's injury absence.

Blue Jays | Jose Bautista day-to-day

Thu, 16 Jun 2016 20:02:01 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista (toe) left the game against the Philadelphia Phillies Thursday, June 16, after colliding with the outfield wall during the seventh inning while chasing a double off the bat of C Cameron Rupp. He limped off the field with the assistance of a trainer and is considered day-to-day because of soreness in his left big toe.

Fantasy Tip: Bautista went 1-for-4 in Thursday's contest before exiting and is batting .230 with 12 home runs and 41 RBI through 65 games. DFS players should avoid using him until he can play in at least one full game without experiencing any setbacks.

Blue Jays | Jose Bautista continues to DH

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 20:03:00 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista (thigh) served as the designated hitter for the second straight game Tuesday, June 14, against the Philadelphia Phillies. He had missed the previous three outings due to a sore right thigh.

Fantasy Tip: The team is likely playing it safe with Joey Bats on the artificial surface. With the DH not available in a National League park, you can expect Bautista to be back in the outfield Wednesday.

Blue Jays | Jose Bautista in at DH again

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 07:41:48 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista (thigh) is in at designated hitter again Tuesday, June 14, and he's leading off.

Fantasy Tip: Joey Bats has a .250-1-3 line this month, but he takes on inexperienced Zach Eflin in his major league debut. Bautista remains a high-end play in DFS.

Blue Jays | Jose Bautista back in the lineup

Mon, 13 Jun 2016 12:32:59 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista (thigh) is leading off as the designated hitter against Philadelphia Phillies SP Jerad Eickhoff Monday, June 13.

Fantasy Tip: Bautista hasn't played since sustaining the injury Thursday, June 9. It might not be the best night to pay up for him in daily contests, but in seasonal leagues, you can safely return Bautista to your starting lineups.

Blue Jays | Jose Bautista likely back Monday

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 15:20:34 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista (thigh) is expected to return to the starting lineup as the designated hitter Monday, June 13, against the Philadelphia Phillies, according to manager John Gibbons. Bautista has missed the last three games with right thigh tightness.

Fantasy Tip: Coincidently, Toronto scored 25 runs and took of its last three games against the Baltimore Orioles while Bautista was away. The six-time All-Star appeared to be finding a groove at the plate before his injury with a pair of multi-hit games, but he is still batting only .234 on the season. Regardless, get Bautista back in lineups beginning with Monday's game versus the Philadelphia Phillies.
