Blue Jays | Toronto to consider extending Bautista

Fri, 05 Feb 2016 14:02:09 -0800

Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista and the team could possibly begin negotiations regarding a contract extension during spring training, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Bautista is entering his age-35 season, but showed no signs of slowing down last year with 40 homers and 114 RBI in 153 games. Over the last six seasons, he has belted a league-high 227 home runs and ranks second only to Miguel Cabrera in slugging (.555) and OPS (.945). The six-time All-Star remains a top-15 fantasy player in virtually all formats.

Blue Jays | Jose Bautista open to extension

Fri, 05 Feb 2016 11:30:52 -0800

Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista, who is entering the final year of his contract this season, is open to discussing an extension prior to hitting the open market next winter.

Fantasy Tip: Bautista has been one of baseball's premier power hitters since joining the Blue Jays late in the 2008 season, averaging 37.8 home runs and 97 RBI while earning six consecutive All-Star nods. He hit .250 with 40 homers and 114 RBI in 153 games in 2015 and should be considered as a late first-rounder in all formats again this season.

Blue Jays | Three regulars in Toronto returning

Tue, 03 Nov 2015 09:37:58 -0800

Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista, 1B Edwin Encarnacion and SP R.A. Dickey all had their 2016 options picked up by the team Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Fantasy Tip: Bautista and Encarnacion are similar aging players with plus-power still, but Encarnacion will fall further in drafts because he has more injury concerns. Dickey is far removed from his Cy Young season with the New York Mets in the National League. He continues to be a matchup play that has more success in the hitter-friendly confines of Rogers Centre, though.

Blue Jays | Jose Bautista expected to return

Wed, 28 Oct 2015 18:31:20 -0700

The Toronto Blue Jays are expected to exercise their $14 million option on OF Jose Bautista for the 2016 season, according to multiple sources. If the team declined the option, they would have to pay him a $1 million buyout.

Fantasy Tip: There was never any doubt that the Jays would be interested in bringing back Bautista, who will earn well below market value next year. In 153 regular-season games in 2015, he hit .250 with 40 home runs and 114 RBIs and should be one of the first outfielders chosen in all fantasy baseball drafts.

Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista went 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series against the Kansas City Royals Friday, Oct. 23.

Blue Jays | Toronto sluggers set for bad game?

Wed, 21 Oct 2015 10:12:12 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista (3-for-18) and SS Troy Tulowitzki (3-for-17) have struggled in their careers against Kansas City Royals SP Edinson Volquez, who will start Game 5 of the American League Championship Series Wednesday, Oct. 21. 1B Edwin Encarnacion has three walks and a home run for a .250/.400/.500 slash line in his career off Volquez.

Fantasy Tip: All of Toronto's sluggers can go off at any time but will be expensive on FantasyScore. It's worth your while to find space for at least one of them today, though, but Josh Donaldson ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) may be your best bet.

Blue Jays | Toronto sluggers struggled against Young

Tue, 20 Oct 2015 10:03:53 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays 3B Josh Donaldson (1-for-16), SS Troy Tulowitzki (2-for-11) and OF Jose Bautista (3-for-16) have all struggled in their careers against Kansas City Royals SP Chris R. Young, the Game 4 starter Tuesday, Oct. 20.

Fantasy Tip: Young has pitched well for the Royals as a swing man this year. However, despite the bad career results in limited at-bats against Young, all of Toronto's sluggers aren't bad picks on FantasyScore in Game 4 in an excellent hitting environment against a fly-ball pitcher.

Blue Jays | Jose Bautista drives in four runs

Wed, 14 Oct 2015 17:19:22 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista went 2-for-4 with a double, home run and four RBIs in Game 5 of the American League Division Series against the Texas Rangers Wednesday, Oct. 14.

Fantasy Tip: Bautista ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) finished the ALDS batting .273 (6-for-22) with two home runs and five RBIs. He should be a popular selection in FantasyScore during the ALCS because his regular-season numbers versus both Houston (.333-4-6) and Kansas City (.321-2-5) were solid.

Fantasy Tip: Joey Bats ($6,000. 12.0% of cap) left Game 1 with a leg ailment in the ninth inning. He's 3-for-9 (.333) lifetime off Cole Hamels and is an upper-tier outfielder on FantasyScore.

Blue Jays | Josh Donaldson, Jose Bautista fine

Thu, 08 Oct 2015 15:21:14 -0700

Donaldson passed his concussion tests. Bautista is dealing with right hamstring tightness. Both injuries are mild.

Fantasy Tip: The entire Blue Jays organization just let out a sigh of relief. Both Donaldson ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) and Bautista ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) are strong picks on FantasyScore tomorrow against another left-handed pitcher.
