Braves | Jason Grilli placed on disabled list

Tue, 14 Jul 2015 09:27:52 -0700

Atlanta Braves RP Jason Grilli (Achilles') has been placed on the 60-day disabled list retroactive to July 12. Grilli ruptured his left Achilles' covering first base in the Braves game on Saturday, July 11, ending his 2015 season.

Fantasy Tip: With Grilli's season over Jim Johnson will get first crack at saves in the Braves bullpen and needs to be claimed immediately. Johnson has 20 holds, five saves, two wins and a 2.09 ERA in 43 innings pitched this season. Grilli can be released in all yearly leagues.

Braves | Jason Grilli could be moved

Sat, 11 Jul 2015 07:42:19 -0700

Atlanta Braves RP Jason Grilli is a player the Braves have considered moving before the trade deadline, and the team has had serious talks with a few contending teams.

Fantasy Tip: Grilli has performed well as the team's closer with 24 saves, but he may not remain a closer if he is traded. Owners should monitor his situation since he would lose a lot of fantasy value if he becomes a setup man.

Braves | Jason Grilli pitching well in July

Wed, 08 Jul 2015 14:29:23 -0700

Atlanta Braves RP Jason Grilli fanned three batters while recording the save Tuesday, July 7, and it was the first time this year he had been used in three straight games. Grilli has been perfect in July, throwing five innings and retiring all 15 batters that he has faced, including nine strikeouts. He threw just 15 and 11 pitches in his outings Sunday, July 5, and Monday, July 6, convincing manager Fredi Gonzalez that he could go with Grilli for a third straight day. Grilli has a 2.67 ERA in 35 outings going into the game Wednesday, July 8, with 24 saves in 26 chances and 45 strikeouts and just 10 walks in 33 2/3 innings. He's fifth in the National League in strikeouts per nine innings with 12.03.

Fantasy Tip: Grilli was not used in the Braves' loss to the Milwaukee Brewers Wednesday, and he was likely unavailable anyway. He has really settled into the closer role for Atlanta and has earned himself a long leash.
