Toronto Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said 2B Ryan Goins has won the competition to be the team's starting second baseman over INF Maicer Izturis. "Goins is our guy right now," Gibbons said. "We want to see him do his thing. There's always a chance. Opening Day is (Tampa Bay's) David Price so maybe you'd rather have a righty facing him, that could always be a possibility. But we're giving Goins every opportunity to be the guy."
Fantasy Tip: The left-handed-hitting Goins is known more for his glove than his bat, so he should only be considered in the later rounds of AL-only fantasy leagues. Izturis is expected to serve as the team's primary utility infielder and also carries little fantasy value.

The Toronto Blue Jays are still in the market for a second baseman, but if something doesn't materialize, they seem content with the options already in place. Barring any changes, SS Ryan Goins and 2B Maicer Izturis are expected to work together in some sort of platoon at second base. Goins is considered a better option because of his superior defense.

The Toronto Blue Jays have recalled P Chad Jenkins from Double-A New Hampshire and selected the contract of SP Chien-Ming Wang from Triple-A Buffalo. In a corresponding move, INF Maicer Izturis (ankle) has been transferred from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The Toronto Blue Jays placed 2B Maicer Izturis (ankle) on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained left ankle Thursday, Aug. 22, and recalled INF Ryan Goins from the minors in a corresponding move.
Fantasy Tip: Munenori Kawasaki will likely take over the main duties at the keystone with Izturis on the infirmary. Acquire Kawasaki only if you're extremely desperate for a middle infielder in an AL-only setup.

Toronto Blue Jays 2B Maicer Izturis (ankle) was out of the lineup Wednesday, Aug. 21, and he might be facing a stint on the 15-day disabled list if his sprained left ankle doesn't improve in the very near future. He will be re-evaluated Thursday, Aug. 22.

Toronto Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said SS Munenori Kawasaki will share time at second base with INF Maicer Izturis, who "looks a little worn down, to be honest with you."
Fantasy Tip: Kawasaki and Izturis should only be options for AL-only league managers.

Toronto Blue Jays INF Brett Lawrie is starting at second base against the Baltimore Orioles Saturday, July 13, with INF Maicer Izturis playing third base.
Wed, 10 Jul 2013 13:58:29 -0700
Toronto Blue Jays manager John Gibbons indicated 3B Brett Lawrie (ankle) could play second base once he comes off the 15-day disabled list. Gibbons did not rule out OF Jose Bautista playing third base and said 1B Edwin Encarnacion could start at third base occasionally but not often. 3B Mark DeRosa and SS Maicer Izturis could see a majority of the time at third base if Lawrie is moved.
Fantasy Tip: Lawrie has been working at second base during his rehab, so it appears the team is serious about the possibility of moving Lawrie to second base. Lawrie probably would get more fantasy value if he is able to pick up second base eligibility. Even though DeRosa and Izturis would see playing time, their fantasy values would be hurt since they would be in a timeshare.
