Blue Jays | Maicer Izturis unlikely for opener |
Sun, 22 Mar 2015 14:43:37 -0700
Toronto Blue Jays 2B Maicer Izturis (groin) has been shut down from baseball activities for at least 10 days because of a strained groin. Izturis is expected to miss Opening Day.
Fantasy Tip: On top of his missed season last year due to knee injuries, this is getting to be a lost cause. What little fantasy value Izturis has is rapidly declining, so do not draft unless you have a very deep AL or mixed league.

Blue Jays | Adam Lind placed on DL |
Fri, 18 Apr 2014 19:40:57 -0700
The Toronto Blue Jays have placed 1B Adam Lind (back) on the 15-day disabled list because of a back injury and recalled 1B Juan Francisco from Triple-A Buffalo. The team also transferred 2B Maicer Izturis (knee) to the 60-day disabled list.
Fantasy Tip: Francisco may get most of the playing time while Lind is out of the lineup and should be an option for most AL-only owners.

Blue Jays | Maicer Izturis out 4-6 months |
Mon, 14 Apr 2014 14:43:13 -0700
Toronto Blue Jays 2B Maicer Izturis (knee) is expected to miss four to six months with a ligament tear in his knee. He'll seek a second opinion before having surgery.
Fantasy Tip: Izturis will need to have the lateral collateral ligament in his knee fixed, and he'll likely miss most if, if not the rest, of the 2014 season.

The Toronto Blue Jays placed SS Jose Reyes (hamstring) on the 15-day disabled list Monday, March 31, due to left hamstring tightness, and they purchased the contract of INF Jonathan Diaz from Triple-A Las Vegas. Reyes battled hamstring soreness during the final week of spring training, and he left Monday's opener after just one at-bat.
Fantasy Tip: Reyes has been dealing with this chronic issue, and his stint on the DL could last longer than the cursory DL trip. With Reyes on the shelf, Ryan Goins and Maicer Izturis are likely to see more at-bats over the coming weeks, and each are decent middle infielder options in some AL-only fantasy leagues. However, don't bother with either player in mixed formats.

Blue Jays | Jose Reyes headed for MRI |
Mon, 31 Mar 2014 16:48:57 -0700
Toronto Blue Jays SS Jose Reyes (hamstring) will undergo an MRI exam on his tight left hamstring, but the team isn't expected to make a roster move Monday, March 31. Manager John Gibbons prefers to keep 2B Ryan Goins at second base if Reyes needs to go on the disabled list.
Fantasy Tip: Be prepared for the possibility that Reyes lands on the DL, since he's such a slow healer. On the active roster, Maicer Izturis is the likely candidate to replace Reyes at the 6, or the team could call up Munenori Kawasaki or Jonathan Diaz.

Blue Jays | Ryan Goins to start at second base |
Sat, 01 Mar 2014 11:32:41 -0800
Toronto Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said 2B Ryan Goins has won the competition to be the team's starting second baseman over INF Maicer Izturis. "Goins is our guy right now," Gibbons said. "We want to see him do his thing. There's always a chance. Opening Day is (Tampa Bay's) David Price so maybe you'd rather have a righty facing him, that could always be a possibility. But we're giving Goins every opportunity to be the guy."
Fantasy Tip: The left-handed-hitting Goins is known more for his glove than his bat, so he should only be considered in the later rounds of AL-only fantasy leagues. Izturis is expected to serve as the team's primary utility infielder and also carries little fantasy value.
