New York Giants FS Antrel Rolle is improving because he is starting to understand the position, according to safeties coach Dave Merritt. "Antrel is just now starting to understand and develop as a safety," Merritt said Thursday. "He was a corner, as we all know, when he was drafted out of Miami. Now all of a sudden he's a safety, and he's starting to understand the position more so than ever. Before, as far as formations, he didn't see formations. He didn't really see the route concepts. Now, the last two years, it's all coming together for him and he's feeling more comfortable. So with Antrel's ability to continue to learn and grow, he hasn't really scratched his ability as a safety yet. Last year was a glimpse of what Antrel could actually become."

New York Giants FS Antrel Rolle said Monday, Dec. 30, that he would be open to a contract extension with the team. He has one year left on his contract and is currently scheduled to cost the team $9.25 million against the salary cap in 2014. If the team wants to extend his deal, reducing his cap number and giving him more years, he is open to it. "If that's what they want to do, I'll do it," Rolle said. "I'd like to retire as a Giant. The ultimate goal is an extension and add more years to my deal so I can stay a part of this organization."

Rolle is in a walking boot, but has no thought of missing the team's Week 1 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys. New York Giants FS Antrel Rolle (knee) is still experiencing pain in his left knee and doesn't expect it to go away anytime soon. He said his knee is better, but not 100 percent. "It's a battle," Rolle said. "It's a constant battle each and every day. ... With this knee injury, it's going to take some time. I never thought it would be this crucial. It's just a lingering process. Nothing too serious. But something that lingers around a little bit." Rolle plans to play in Week 6 against the San Francisco 49ers.
