Blue Jays | Gavin Floyd's role is undecided

Wed, 10 Feb 2016 17:15:28 -0800

Toronto Blue Jays SP Gavin Floyd will be stretched out as a starting pitcher during spring training, although the organization has not made a decision on whether he will start or relieve, according to general manager Ross Atkins.

Fantasy Tip: Floyd is worthy of consideration as a late-round flier in AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues if he cracks Toronto's starting rotation. If he winds up in the bullpen, he would likely be used as a long reliever and wouldn't have much value in any fantasy format.

Blue Jays | Gavin Floyd financial details

Sat, 06 Feb 2016 11:03:35 -0800

Updating previous reports, Toronto Blue Jays SP Gavin Floyd signed a one-year deal with a base salary of $1 million. The deal also includes up to $1 million in incentives based on days spent on the active roster. He will receive $500,000 for 90 days and $250,000 for 120 days and 140 days.

Fantasy Tip: It is unknown whether the Jays plan to have Floyd battle for a spot at the back of their starting rotation during spring training or use him in relief, as the Cleveland Indians did at the end of last season. If he's used as a starter, he should be viewed as a late-round flier in AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues.

Free-agent SP Gavin Floyd (Indians) is close to signing with the Toronto Blue Jays, according to multiple sources.

Fantasy Tip: If signed, Floyd would likely compete for a spot at the back end of the Jays' starting rotation. He should be monitored by owners in single-universe and cavernous mixed leagues throughout spring training.

Orioles | Baltimore interested in Gavin Floyd?

Thu, 04 Feb 2016 17:46:09 -0800

Free-agent SP Gavin Floyd (Indians) has been throwing off a mound for more than two weeks. The Baltimore Orioles had interest in him last month and they are likely to continue monitoring his progress.

Fantasy Tip: Floyd was used exclusively out of the bullpen by the Indians near the end of the 2015 season after being sidelined for most of the year with a stress fracture in his right elbow, posting a 2.70 ERA in seven appearances. He is completely healthy now but is nothing more than a fringe option in single-universe leagues.

Cleveland Indians SP Gavin Floyd (elbow) will be activated from the disabled list Tuesday, Sept. 1, but he will be used out of the bullpen, according to manager Terry Francona.

Fantasy Tip: Floyd has not pitched at the major league level this season and as long as he is being used out of the bullpen, he has no value in FantasyScore.

Indians | Gavin Floyd set for surgery

Fantasy Tip: It's a tough break for a pitcher that was primed for another solid season in 2015 as a fantasy baseball sleeper. Make sure to cross him off your sleeper cheat sheets in deep mixed leagues.

Indians | Gavin Floyd has fractured elbow

Thu, 12 Mar 2015 10:27:27 -0700

Cleveland Indians SP Gavin Floyd (elbow) was diagnosed with a fractured olecranon bone in his right elbow, which was the same injury he had last year that required surgery.

Fantasy Tip: Floyd was a nice sleeper candidate for 2015 after the strides he had made in 2014 before his elbow injury. You can forget about him now in all leagues.

Indians | Gavin Floyd has stress fracture

Tue, 10 Mar 2015 10:15:37 -0700

Cleveland Indians SP Gavin Floyd (elbow) suffered a stress fracture in his right elbow, and he'll be out for the foreseeable future.

Fantasy Tip: Floyd was entering the 2015 season with the Tribe as a sleeper candidate. However, a second straight year of dealing with a stress fracture in his right elbow will put that on hold. You can now forget about Floyd as a deep sleeper in deep mixed leagues.

Indians | Gavin Floyd to have MRI

Mon, 09 Mar 2015 09:54:06 -0700

Cleveland Indians SP Gavin Floyd (elbow) is having an MRI exam done on his right elbow Monday, March 9, after he was held out of his Cactus League debut Sunday, March 8.

Fantasy Tip: Floyd is one of our sleeper candidates after his move to Cleveland in the offseason. The elbow concerns are frustrating, though, especially after he suffered a fractured elbow last year. If healthy, Floyd's increased control and ground-ball skills set him up to succeed again in 2015 as a late-round gamble in deep mixed leagues.
