Braves | Erick Aybar to lose playing time?

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 16:22:20 -0700

Atlanta Braves SS Erick Aybar, who is hitting only .134 on the year and .043 (1-for-23) against lefties, will likely move to second base for some games in the near future. Manager Fredi Gonzalez wants to give SS Daniel Castro some time at shortstop. Aybar started 35 games at second in 2007 as a rookie, but he played only two innings there in 2008 and hasn't played there since.

Fantasy Tip: Aybar is a slap hitter that never has had much offensive prowess, so his fantasy value should've already been limited to NL-only leagues. Castro is a defensive specialist, too, so his ownership should be limited to the same formats for now.

Braves | Erick Aybar out again

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 13:44:18 -0700

Atlanta Braves SS Erick Aybar is out of the starting lineup again Monday, April 25. SS Daniel Castro is starting at shortstop again and is hitting second against Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello.

Fantasy Tip: Aybar has just nine hits in 66 at-bats (.136) and could continue to lose playing time at the 6. Only hang onto him for bench depth in NL-only affairs. Castro, on the other hand, has 12 hits in 35 at-bats (.343). However, he's more of a defensive-minded utility infielder for Atlanta and remains a low-end shortstop play in DFS action.

Braves | Erick Aybar not playing

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 09:44:43 -0700

Atlanta Braves SS Erick Aybar is not in the starting lineup against New York Mets SP Jacob deGrom Sunday, April 24. 2B Daniel Castro will start at shortstop in place of Aybar. OF Kelly Johnson will start at second base, while 2B Jace Peterson will start in left field and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson has gone 3-for-11 with three RBI over the last seven days but his hitting only .206 on the season. Owners probably could find better options to use in their lineups.

Braves | Nick Markakis takes a seat

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 07:39:15 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis is out of the lineup Thursday, April 21, with SS Erick Aybar leading off.

Fantasy Tip: Aybar is hitting .135 and facing Clayton Kershaw today, which doesn't give him much upside in DFS.

Braves | Erick Aybar out of lineup

Fri, 15 Apr 2016 12:55:50 -0700

Atlanta Braves SS Erick Aybar is not in the starting lineup Friday, April 15, versus Miami Marlins SP Wei-Yin Chen. SS Daniel Castro will take his place and bat second.

Fantasy Tip: It's an overdue day off for the veteran, who has started every game this season for lowly Atlanta. As a result, Castro isn't someone worth adding in any format. He was very unspectacular as a rookie last year anyway.

Braves | Daniel Castro recalled

Wed, 13 Apr 2016 10:15:51 -0700

Atlanta Braves SS Daniel Castro was recalled from Class AAA Gwinnett Wednesday, April 13. Castro could receive a couple of starts at shortstop this week, but the team isn't ready to transition SS Erick Aybar to second base on a full-time basis.

Fantasy Tip: Castro is worth the add in NL-only leagues, but this makes it seem like a short-term move.

Braves | Mallex Smith hitting leadoff Monday

Mon, 11 Apr 2016 12:36:29 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Mallex Smith is hitting leadoff and starting in center field in his major league debut against Washington Nationals SP Max Scherzer. As a result, SS Erick Aybar is moved down to eighth in the batting order.

Fantasy Tip: Smith hit .306 in two minor league stops last year and has a solid approach at the plate to complement his speed, his biggest asset to fantasy owners. Add him in the short term in all formats if you're in need of a stolen base boost, but keep in mind he is a candidate to be sent back to the minors when Ender Inciarte is healthy. Smith draws a tough first matchup against Scherzer, making him a risky play in daily setups.

Braves | Ender Inciarte out Saturday

Sat, 09 Apr 2016 12:17:30 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Ender Inciarte (leg) is not in the starting lineup against St. Louis Cardinals SP Carlos Martinez on Saturday, April 9. OF Drew Stubbs will start in center and bat seventh while SS Erick Aybar moves up a spot to replace Inciarte atop the order.

Fantasy Tip: Stubbs was pretty much useless for fantasy purposes last year (.195 batting average and five home runs in 78 games between the Texas Rangers and Colorado Rockies) but is only a season removed from a 15-homer, 20-steal campaign. He's not worth a start against Martinez on Saturday but could be worth stashing in deeper leagues if Inciarte is forced to miss multiple games.

Braves | Erick Aybar will cost steep price

Thu, 10 Mar 2016 05:35:56 -0800

Atlanta Braves SS Erick Aybar will cost a steep price if the St. Louis Cardinals, or any other team, wants to acquire him. "Erick Aybar was a big part of the Andrelton Simmons trade," general manager John Coppolella said Wednesday. "We don't want to trade Erick Aybar; he's a great, winning player. We need to win more games this year, and he's going to be a big part of that."

Fantasy Tip: Aybar is a midrange shortstop without a lot of upside in mixed leagues.

Braves | Erick Aybar is a placeholder

Mon, 15 Feb 2016 21:58:46 -0800

Altanta Braves SS Erick Aybar is under contract through the 2016 season, and he is expected to keep the shortstop spot warm until prospect SS Dansby Swanson is ready. That might occur at some point this season.

Fantasy Tip: Aybar is worth a look as a middle infielder in mixed fantasy formats and deeper NL-only play, while Swanson isn't a bad stash option in NL play and long-term dynasty formats.
