Dodgers | LAD to get pitching in trade

Tue, 26 May 2015 19:04:35 -0700

The Los Angeles Dodgers will receive major-league pitching in the deal that will send 3B Juan Uribe to the Atlanta Braves for 3B Alberto Callaspo Tuesday, May 26. SP Trevor Cahill and/or SP Eric Stults are likely involved.

Fantasy Tip: Neither pitcher has been impressive this season but with increased opportunities for wins in Los Angeles, they could hold FantasyScore value when facing a good matchup.

Dodgers | LAD to acquire Alberto Callaspo

Tue, 26 May 2015 18:22:29 -0700

The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired 3B Alberto Callaspo from the Atlanta Braves Tuesday, May 26, according to sources. It's a six-player deal in which 3B Juan Uribe would go to Atlanta. Callaspo was pulled from Tuesday's game and the deal is done pending league approval.

Fantasy Tip: Callaspo ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) will likely split time at third base with Alex Guerrero in L.A. Callaspo is worth a speculative add in deep NL-only leagues, and he'll now have sneaky value on FantasyScore as a part of the dangerous Dodgers lineup.

Braves | Alberto Callaspo a late scratch

Mon, 25 May 2015 17:08:54 -0700

Atlanta Braves 3B Alberto Callaspo (undisclosed) was a late scratch Monday, May 25, against the Los Angeles Dodgers. SS Pedro Ciriaco replaced Callaspo at third base, and he will bat seventh in the order.

Fantasy Tip: Ciriaco ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has just three hits through 20 plate appearances and he should be avoided on FantasyScore.

Braves | Chris Johnson to return next Thursday

Thu, 21 May 2015 16:00:03 -0700

Atlanta Braves 3B Chris Johnson (hand) is set to rejoin the team Thursday, May 28, and he's scheduled to have five at-bats in an extended spring training game Friday, May 22. He'll take batting practice with the Braves over the weekend and head out on a minor league rehab assignment early next week. Johnson was in a platoon at third base with 3B Alberto Callaspo to start the year before he was injured.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) will likely re-enter a platoon situation with Callaspo when he returns late next week. He was hitting .279 (12-for-43) with no home runs and five RBI before his injury. Johnson will strictly be a matchup play at FantasyScore once he's back.

Braves | Alberto Callaspo returns Wednesday

Wed, 20 May 2015 14:34:32 -0700

Atlanta Braves 3B Alberto Callaspo is back in the starting lineup Wednesday, May 20, starting at third base and hitting second in the batting order against Tampa Bay Rays Jake Odorizzi.

Fantasy Tip: Callaspo ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) hasn't played in a full game since last Wednesday, and he's hitting a measley .209 (19-for-91) with one home run and seven RBI on the season. You should avoid him against the improving Odorizzi Wednesday.

Braves | Alberto Callaspo sitting Sunday

Sun, 17 May 2015 07:31:20 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Alberto Callaspo is not in the starting lineup Sunday, May 17, against the Miami Marlins. 2B Phil Gosselin will start at third base and hit second in the order.

Fantasy Tip: Gosselin (($1,600, 3.2% of cap) should receive some consideration due to his enviable position in the batting order and the fact that Atlanta goes up against the rusty Henderson Alvarez. Gosselin is 6-for-his-last-12, with two extra-base hits. Gosselin also has the ability to steal bases, making him worthy of GPP consideration on FantasyScore.

Braves | Alberto Callaspo sitting vs. Marlins

Fri, 15 May 2015 13:10:54 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Alberto Callaspo is not in the starting lineup against the Miami Marlins Friday, May 15. 2B Phil Gosselin is batting second and manning the hot corner Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Callaspo ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) in all fantasy formats Friday. He failed to register a hit in three consecutive games and is currently mired in a 4-for-36 funk. Callaspo should be reserved to cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues, and FantasyScore players will want to avoid him until he shows some life at the dish. Gosselin ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) should be viewed as a desperation flier for daily contests.

Braves | Alberto Callaspo batting second vs. Reds

Fri, 01 May 2015 12:10:16 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B/3B Alberto Callaspo is batting second and playing third base against the Cincinnati Reds Friday, May 1.

Fantasy Tip: Callaspo ($2,100 4.2% of cap) is just 7-for-44 over his last 14 games with four runs and three RBI, and he faces sneaky righty Anthony DeSclafani ($5,100, 10.2% of cap). Consider Callaspo a desperation flier for FantasyScore contests Friday, but his value could increase if he continues to hit high in the order.

Braves | Alberto Callaspo starting at 3B

Wed, 22 Apr 2015 13:25:40 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Alberto Callaspo is starting at third base and hitting second in the batting order against New York Mets SP Dillon Gee Wednesday, April 22. 3B Chris Johnson is sitting out.

Fantasy Tip: Callaspo ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) has only 10 hits in 36 at-bats (.278) with just two RBI for the Braves so far in 2015. The switch hitter only hit .238 (61-for-256) with three of his four home runs in 2014 off of righties, too, making him a low-end second base option at FantasyScore.

Braves | Alberto Callaspo draws another start

Tue, 14 Apr 2015 15:04:30 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Alberto Callaspo is starting at second base and hitting second against Miami Marlins SP Tom Koehler Tuesday, April 14. 2B Jace Peterson will be on the bench again.

Fantasy Tip: Callaspo ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) is hot to start the year (.471, 8-for-17) and is earning his spot in the Bravos' lineup. He'll be a sleeper option at FantasyScore while he's swinging the stick well, but he doesn't offer a whole lot of offensive upside to daily gamers.
