Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger rested Wednesday

Wed, 20 Sep 2017 13:36:45 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (rest) was given the day off to rest at practice Wednesday, Sept. 20.

Fantasy Tip: Big Ben was getting the typical veteran's day to rest, and he'll likely be back at it as a full participant on Thursday as the team ramps up for its Week 3 game in Chicago. He remains a reliable fantasy option, even in what is his final season in the NFL.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger throws two TDs

Sun, 17 Sep 2017 14:56:49 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger went 23-for-35 for 243 yards and two touchdowns against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 2.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger continued his strong play at home and used multiple receivers during the game. He has struggled on the road over the last few seasons but could be a low-end No. 1 quarterback next week when the Steelers travel to play the Chicago Bears.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger has solid outing

Sun, 10 Sep 2017 12:55:41 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger went 24-for-36 for 263 yards, two touchdowns and one interception against the Cleveland Browns in Week 1.

Fantasy Tip: Most of Roethlisberger's yards came off throws to Antonio Brown, so it appears he needs more time to strengthen his chemistry with Le'Veon Bell and Martavis Bryant. He will be facing a tough Minnesota Vikings defense in Week 2 but could be a low-end No. 1 fantasy quarterback because he plays better at home.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger plans to play Saturday

Wed, 23 Aug 2017 17:52:02 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger said he will play in the preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts Saturday, Aug. 26.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger sat out the first two preseason games but probably will play most of the first half against the Colts. He will have a lot of weapons to work with in the passing game this season, but owners may want to consider him a No. 2 fantasy quarterback because he has struggled on the road over the last few seasons.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger to sit Sunday

Wed, 16 Aug 2017 15:05:27 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger has been told that he will not play in the preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons Sunday, Aug. 20, but will play in the third preseason game.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger had a similar workload last preseason, so the team wants to make sure he is healthy for the start of the regular season. Roethlisberger has plenty of weapons to work with in the passing game but is not a great fantasy option because he has struggled on the road for the last few seasons. He should be considered a low-end No. 1 or a No. 2 quarterback in leagues.

Steelers | Big Ben, Antonio Brown to sit Friday

Wed, 09 Aug 2017 09:56:17 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger and WR Antonio Brown will not play in the team's exhibition opener against the New York Giants on Friday, Aug. 11.

Fantasy Tip: The Steelers have no reason to expose their quarterback and arguably the game's best receiver to potential injury this weekend, especially when neither player would play more than one or two series anyway. Expect the duo to get their first preseason snaps on Aug. 20 against the Atlanta Falcons.

Steelers | Joshua Dobbs runs the offense

Thu, 03 Aug 2017 19:24:58 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Joshua Dobbs "took advantage" of reps with the first-team offense after QB Ben Roethlisberger (ankle) left with an injury Thursday, Aug. 3, according to head coach Mike Tomlin.

Steelers | Ankle issue for Ben Roethlisberger

Thu, 03 Aug 2017 19:18:08 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (ankle) was unable to finish practice Thursday, Aug. 3, because of a right ankle injury, but head coach Mike Tomlin downplayed the injury.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger was great at home but struggled on the road last year, making him a low-end QB1 or high-end QB2 in 2017.

Steelers | Big Ben unsure about playing past 2017

Fri, 28 Jul 2017 12:01:57 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger has yet to commit to playing beyond this season. "I feel if I commit to anything past right now, I'm cheating now. I'm looking forward to this season, and I'm going to give it everything I have and afterwards we'll sit down and do some (thinking) again," Roethlisberger said.

Fantasy Tip: The Steelers addressed life post-Roethlisberger by spending a fourth-round pick on Josh Dobbs this spring. With Big Ben talking about retirement already this summer and his wife encouraging him to do so, there's a decent chance he may be playing his final season. For fantasy purposes, he is a highly inconsistent low-end QB1 with severe home-road splits over the last few seasons.

Steelers | Martavis Bryant wants to talk to QB

Fri, 14 Jul 2017 18:31:23 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Martavis Bryant said he wants to talk with QB Ben Roethlisberger "man-to-man" about the public comments Roethlisberger made about Bryant's suspension. "Hopefully we'll have it before the season starts," Bryant said. "If not, that's fine. I'm still going to go out and perform and do what I have to do to be the best teammate I can be."

Fantasy Tip: Fair or foul, the comments Roethlisberger made shouldn't have much impact on Bryant's fantasy value. If he can stay out of trouble, Bryant's big-play potential makes him a high-upside WR3.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger wants tight end

Tue, 11 Apr 2017 12:35:00 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger has already lobbied to head coach Mike Tomlin to draft a tigh end, according to NFL Network's Aditi Kinkhabwala.

Fantasy Tip: Heath Miller is gone and Ladarius Green didn't see much of the field last year due to poor health. Green would presumably be the favorite to start even if the Steelers do draft a tight end. If Green is fully healthy before the season begins, he can be drafted as a low-end TE1 to high-end TE2. As for Roethlisberger, he is over the hill and should no longer be regarded as a QB1.

Steelers | Big Ben confirms he will play in 2017

Fri, 07 Apr 2017 11:25:20 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger informed the Steelers he will return for a 14th season in 2017.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger suggested retirement was a possibility for him shortly after the team's AFC Championship loss to the New England Patriots, but few - including the Steelers - seemed to take him all that seriously. Even though he is coming back, Pittsburgh would be well-served to make finding his heir apparent a priority. For fantasy purposes, Big Ben should be considered a midrange to low-end QB1 in 2017.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger expected to play

Tue, 28 Mar 2017 07:57:05 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger is expected to play in 2017, according to head coach Mike Tomlin. Tomlin said he hasn't asked him directly, but he expects him to play.

Fantasy Tip: Big Ben threw out some mild retirement shockwaves in the media, but he'll be in the midst of the midrange or upper-middle QB1 portions in fantasy.

Steelers | Mike Tomlin unfazed by Roethlisberger talk

Mon, 27 Mar 2017 19:23:54 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin think it's a "very reasonable discussion when you get 35," referring to quarterback Ben Roethlisberger's retirement talk, but ultimately, he feels people "probably read too much into it" and "are making more out of than what it is."

Fantasy Tip: He's probably right, as it seems more likely than not that Roethlisberger will indeed be back for the 2017 campaign, especially considering that the 13-year veteran has been consistently excellent over the past handful of seasons. In fact, Big Ben has topped 3,800 passing yards in four consecutive years after reaching that plateau only twice previously. Fantasy owners can still look at him as their potential QB1.

Steelers | PIT planning for Ben Roethlisberger return

Sun, 26 Mar 2017 15:26:59 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said the Steelers are proceeding as if QB Ben Roethlisberger will play in 2017.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger has said he is leaning towards playing but has not made an official decision, so owners should monitor the situation. The Steelers could consider adding a quarterback during the 2017 NFL draft even if Roethlisberger returns. He would be a No. 1 fantasy quarterback if he continues to play.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger 'leaning toward' return

Sun, 19 Mar 2017 10:22:09 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger spoke at a conference over the weekend and suggested he was leaning toward a return. Roethlisberger stated on his radio show in January he had to think about whether or not he was going to play in 2017.

Fantasy Tip: Very few people seemed to take the 35-year-old Roethlisberger seriously regarding his talk of retirement, and this report would seem to be further proof Big Ben may have just been testing the waters. The Steelers would be wise to start grooming his heir apparent, although it would make sense for them to wait until next year to do it since the draft class is expected to be significantly better. Assuming he returns as expected, Roethlisberger figures to be a low-end fantasy QB1 again in 2017.

Steelers | GM expects Ben Roethlisberger back

Wed, 01 Mar 2017 11:32:23 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert said he expects to see QB Ben Roethlisberger on the field when the team starts their offseason workouts.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger indicated that he was considering retirement this offseason, but most people believe that he will return for at least one more season. He struggled during the playoffs but posted solid numbers during the regular season. Roethlisberger can be considered a No. 1 quarterback in fantasy leagues next season because of the weapons he has in the passing game.

Steelers | Former coach expects Ben Roethlisberger back

Fri, 17 Feb 2017 15:53:23 -0800

Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said he expects Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger to play in 2017.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger hinted about retirement after the season, but most people believe that he will play at least one more season. He recorded 3,819 yards and 29 touchdowns in 2016 and will have most of his weapons back next season. He can be considered a No. 1 quarterback in most fantasy leagues.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger expected to return

Tue, 31 Jan 2017 13:40:07 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger is expected to return next season, according to owner Art Rooney, despite uncertainty regarding his future. Rooney did admit, however, that the Steelers are probably due to look at quarterbacks in this year's draft class.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger's long career has taken its toll. He hasn't played a full season since 2014 and has only played three full seasons in his 13-year career. If he does return, he's a borderline QB1, but it would probably safer to draft him as a high-end QB2.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger better at home

Wed, 25 Jan 2017 15:36:14 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger threw for 1,915 yards, 20 touchdowns and five interceptions at home this season. He threw for 1,904 yards, nine touchdowns and eight interceptions on the road.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger has had problems on the road in each of the last two seasons but has played very well at Heinz Field. He has mentioned the possibility of retirement after the season but there is a good chance he will be back for 2017. He should be considered a decent No. 1 quarterback in fantasy leagues if he plays.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger uncertain about future

Tue, 24 Jan 2017 09:32:28 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger hinted retirement was an option when he joined The Cook and Poni Show on 93.7 The Fan on Tuesday, Jan. 24. "I'm going to take this offseason to evaluate, to consider all options. To consider health, and family and things like that and just kind of take some time away to evaluate next season, if there's going to be a next season," Roethlisberger said.

Fantasy Tip: It's likely a bit of an emotional reaction in the wake of a disappointing result in the AFC Championship this past weekend. Roethlisberger is only 34 and would owe Pittsburgh $18.6 million if he calls it a career, so the odds are he will be back in 2017. With that said, the Steelers probably need to ramp up their efforts to find his successor in the next draft or two.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger stellar against zone

Mon, 23 Jan 2017 12:13:24 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger completed 16 of 17 passes for 123 yards versus the New England Patriots' zone defense in the AFC Championship game.

Fantasy Tip: All things considered, Roethlisberger had a good game statistically, but the Patriots really limited the Steelers' big-play potential. A large part of that was due to Antonio Brown not finding much room as Malcolm Butler did a great job in coverage all game. Look for Butler to shadow Julio Jones as much as possible in the Super Bowl. Injuries and gradual decline make Roethlisberger a backup fantasy option next season.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger decent in loss

Sun, 22 Jan 2017 18:53:00 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger completed 31 of his 47 passing attempts for 314 yards, one touchdown and an interception Sunday, Jan. 22, against the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game.

Fantasy Tip: Big Ben was done no service by his receivers -- namely Sammie Coates, who dropped three catchable balls. Losing Le'Veon Bell early was costly, but New England largely bottled him up before his departure. Roethlisberger is a low-end QB1 or ideal backup in 2017 fantasy drafts.

Wed, 18 Jan 2017 13:39:49 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (non-injury) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Jan. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger will be fine for the AFC Championship game and will look to win his third straight playoff game. He has thrown two touchdowns and three interceptions in his first two playoff games and has struggled on the road this season. He should be considered a low-end No. 1 quarterback in fantasy leagues.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger has serviceable outing

Sun, 15 Jan 2017 21:36:57 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger threw an interception and was 20 of 31 for 224 yards Sunday, Jan. 15, in an 18-16 win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger ranks as a QB2 mostly because of his injury history, but he will get a shot at elite status again when he faces the New England Patriots in next week's AFC championship game. Roethlisberger wasn't playing earlier this season when Pittsburgh lost to New England in the regular season.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger ready to play

Fri, 13 Jan 2017 13:19:52 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (foot) fully participated in practice Friday, Jan. 13, and is not on the injury report for the Divisional round playoff game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger was able to practice in each of the last two games and will not be limited during the game. He will be playing in inclement weather and has struggled on the road, so owners should consider him a low-end No. 1 quarterback in fantasy leagues.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger practices

Thu, 12 Jan 2017 12:50:18 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (foot) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Jan. 12.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger should be fine for the playoff game against the Kansas City Chiefs. He posted solid overall numbers during the regular season but has struggled on the road in 2016. He will be a risky option for fantasy owners and should be considered a low-end No. 1 quarterback in fantasy leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger should be able to practice later in the week and likely will be in uniform for the Divisional Round playoff game. Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger to practice

Wed, 11 Jan 2017 09:44:48 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (foot) was walking without a limp Wednesday, Jan. 11, and he's expected to have a full week of practice. Head coach Mike Tomlin said the team would monitor Roethlisberger's foot closely.

Fantasy Tip: Big Ben threw for 300 yards and five touchdowns in Week 4 against the Kansas City Chiefs, but the Chiefs were the best defense against opposing QBs in fantasy the last five weeks of the season. Roethlisberger will be an option under the elite tier in fantasy this weekend.

Steelers | Big Ben's foot 'shouldn't be an issue'

Tue, 10 Jan 2017 09:29:43 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (foot) may be held out of practice Wednesday, Jan. 11, but head coach Mike Tomlin told the media Tuesday, Jan. 10, that Roethlisberger's foot injury "shouldn't be an issue."

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger was spotted wearing a walking boot at his postgame presser, but there have been multiple reports suggesting he will be fine for the Divisional Round game this weekend against the Kansas City Chiefs. Given his road struggles over the past few years, Roethlisberger will be hard to trust as a fantasy starter in playoff leagues this weekend. Expect another heavy dose of Le'Veon Bell.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger out of boot

Mon, 09 Jan 2017 15:23:56 -0800

Updating previous reports, Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (foot) said he is no longer wearing a walking boot and that he is fine. Roethlisberger said an MRI showed that he aggravated an old foot fracture but it is not serious.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger may he limited during practice this week but should be on the field for the Divisional Round playoff game. He will be a risky option for owners in fantasy playoff leagues because he has struggled on the road over the last few seasons. Owners should consider him a low-end No. 1 fantasy quarterback.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger OK

Mon, 09 Jan 2017 06:47:49 -0800

Updating previous reports, Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger's (ankle) injured ankle checked out OK, according to sources, and it doesn't appear to be a bad sprain.

Fantasy Tip: Big Ben is expected to suit up against the Kansas City Chiefs in the divisional round. The Chiefs were the best team against opposing QBs the last five weeks of the regular season in terms of fantasy points allowed. Roethlisberger has his hands full, but he'll be one of the upper-middle QB options in fantasy.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger in walking boot

Sun, 08 Jan 2017 14:49:24 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (ankle) said he expects to play in the Divisional Round playoff game against the Kansas City Chiefs next week even though he suffered an ankle injury in the Wild Card playoff game. Roethlisberger was in a walking boot after the game against the Miami Dolphins.

Fantasy Tip: Owners should monitor the situation during the week to see if Roethlisberger is in any danger of missing the game against the Chiefs. He was already a risky option for owners because of his struggles on the road and should only be considered a low-end No. 1 quarterback in all leagues.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger has decent performance

Sun, 08 Jan 2017 14:11:46 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger went 13-for-18 for 197 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in the Wild Card playoff game against the Miami Dolphins.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger did most of his damage in the first half of the game with two touchdowns in the first quarter but threw two interceptions in the second half. He will be facing a tough Kansas City Chiefs defense in the Divisional Round and will be a risky option for owners because he has struggled on the road over the last few seasons.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger plays well in cold

Sat, 07 Jan 2017 10:30:51 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger has gone 21-7 with 41 touchdowns in his career when the temperature has been 32 degrees or below. He also averaged 8.2 yards per pass attempt in those games. The temperature for the Steelers' Wild Card playoff game against the Miami Dolphins is expected to drop into the low teens.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger will be at home against the Dolphins this week, which makes him a good option for owners because he has played much better in Pittsburgh. He threw 20 touchdowns and only five interceptions at home during the regular season. Owners in fantasy leagues should consider Roethlisberger a solid No. 1 quarterback for their lineups.

Sun, 01 Jan 2017 08:33:40 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger has been declared inactive for Week 17's game against the Cleveland Browns.

Fantasy Tip: With the Steelers having already clinched a playoff berth, the team felt it was not necessary to have Roethlisberger risk getting injured in a meaningless regular-season game. Landry Jones will get the starting nod at quarterback but he should not be viewed as a great fantasy option in any format.

Wed, 28 Dec 2016 11:06:24 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger will not play against the Cleveland Browns in Week 17, according to head coach Mike Tomlin.

Fantasy Tip: Landry Jones likely will be the starting quarterback against the Browns. He has started one game this season and has recorded 281 yards, one touchdown and one interceptions in 2016. He may have success against Cleveland but probably should be avoided in all leagues.

Steelers | Pittsburgh likely to rest key players

Tue, 27 Dec 2016 09:50:08 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin suggested Tuesday, Dec. 27, that QB Ben Roethlisberger, RB Le'Veon Bell, WR Antonio Brown and C Maurkice Pouncey probably won't play in Week 17 against the Cleveland Browns. "They are guys I'll look hard at protecting and preserving," Tomlin said.

Fantasy Tip: No surprise here, as the Pittsburgh is locked into a No. 3 seed during the AFC playoffs and has nothing to gain regardless of the result. Landry Jones, Fitzgerald Toussaint and Eli Rogers will likely be the Steelers' top offensive weapons this weekend, although Pittsburgh could easily choose to increase DeAngelo Williams' workload since he has seen only one snap since Week 8 following knee surgery. In such a favorable matchup, whomever starts between Toussaint or Williams could be a nice play in DFS.

Fantasy Tip: Following a weekend where Derek Carr and Marcus Mariota were knocked out due to broken fibulas, Steelers fans likely agree with Roethlisberger. However, anyone playing fantasy leagues into Week 17 likely disagree.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger struggled in the first half of the game but posted most of his stats in the fourth quarter. He would have a favorable matchup if he plays in Week 17 but will be a risky option for owners because he could sit out the game or see limited playing time since the team has clinched the No. 3 seed.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (non-injury) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Dec. 21.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger is just receiving a day off and should be fine for the Week 16 game against the Baltimore Ravens. He has been playing much better at home this season with 17 touchdowns and only three interceptions at Heinz Field. He will be facing a solid Ravens defense but can be a low-end No. 1 in deeper leagues.
