Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger is scheduled to receive a $5 million roster bonus March 16.

Steelers | Extension for Ben Roethlisberger?

Wed, 07 Feb 2018 12:28:15 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger's current contract could be extended at some point, according to owner Art Rooney. Roethlisberger, who is 35 years old, has already expressed his desire to play three more years in the NFL. Rooney did add that the sides have not had a long conversation about a potential extension yet, however.

Fantasy Tip: Big Ben had his peaks and valleys in 2017, but he reached over 4,000 yards for the first time since 2014 and has now averaged 28.5 touchdowns over the last two seasons. With Antonio Brown, up-and-coming JuJu Smith-Schuster and (possibly) Le'Veon Bell, Roethlisberger has an elite supporting cast that enables him to achieve QB1 status.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger and WR JuJu Smith-Schuster teamed up for the best quarterback-receiver combination in the NFL in 2017 with a 134.8 passer rating.

Fantasy Tip: Smith-Schuster came on later in the season when Martavis Bryant faded into fantasy oblivion. As Pittsburgh's No. 2 wide receiver, he has WR2 potential after tallying 80 catches for 917 yards and seven touchdowns in his first professional football season.

Pittsburgh Steelers C Maurkice Pouncey confirmed that QB Ben Roethlisberger recently told his teammates he plans on playing three more years.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger has plenty of weapons in the passing game, and he threw for at least 28 touchdowns for the fourth time in the last five years in 2017. He'll be a low-end QB1 heading into next season.

He finished the regular season with 4,251 passing yards, 28 touchdowns and a 93.4 quarterback rating, and he went over 50,000 career passing yards in 2017. Steelers | Todd Haley could leave Pittsburgh

Sun, 14 Jan 2018 07:03:37 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley, who is a free agent at the end of the season, might not return to the team next year due to a souring relationship with QB Ben Roethlisberger, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. As a result, quarterbacks coach Randy Fichtner has moved from the booth to the sidelines to act as a conduit between the two. If Haley does not come back, Fichtner is a potential candidate to become the next offensive coordinator.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger won't play in Week 17

Sun, 31 Dec 2017 05:39:08 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (rest) will not play in Week 17's game against the Cleveland Browns, according to multiple sources informed of the situation.

Fantasy Tip: With the Steelers having already clinched a playoff spot, it would have made little sense to play Roethlisberger in the regular-season finale, so this move is not a surprise. Landry Jones will get the start against Cleveland but he should not be considered a viable fantasy option in most formats despite the opponent.

Fri, 29 Dec 2017 12:20:31 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (non-injury) did not participate in practice Friday, Dec. 29, but is not on the injury report for Week 17.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to monitor the situation because there is a chance that Roethlisberger does not play this week. He would be a No. 1 fantasy quarterback if he starts, but owners will need other options ready if he is held out. Landry Jones would start if Roethlisberger sits and should be avoided in leagues.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger out in Week 17?

Thu, 28 Dec 2017 18:39:02 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger isn't expected to play against the Cleveland Browns in Week 17, according to OT Marcus Gilbert.

Fantasy Tip: It remains to be seen if Gilbert is telling the truth, but it wouldn't be a surprise to see Roethlisberger sit all or part of the regular season finale. If he doesn't suit up, Landry Jones could be a cheap flier in DFS contests.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger limited

Thu, 28 Dec 2017 13:03:08 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (non-injury) was limited during practice Thursday, Dec. 28.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger has been playing very well during the second half of the season and will have a favorable matchup this week. He can be considered a No. 1 quarterback in all leagues but there is a chance that he sits at some point during the second half of the game if the team has a big lead.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger on tremendous roll

Wed, 27 Dec 2017 19:09:07 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger has registered multiple touchdown passes in seven consecutive games. That's the longest active streak in the NFL.

Fantasy Tip: Remember that weird time in mid-October when Roethlisberger actually had more interceptions than touchdowns on the season? Yeah, seems like long ago, as the future Hall-of-Famer has been on quite the roll over the last two months. Considering the Browns are on tap for Week 17, Roethlisberger has a good chance at continuing his impressive run into the postseason.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger rests Wednesday

Wed, 27 Dec 2017 13:28:58 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (not injury related) was held out of practice Wednesday, Dec. 27, for rest. The Steelers have a lot on the line, as a win and New England Patriots loss would mean home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. It's still uncertain if he'll play the entire game. "I love being out here with the guys, kind of like preseason games it's hard not to play," said Roethlisberger. "It's one of those things where it's not my call."

Fantasy Tip: Big Ben said he wasn't worried about rust if he is held out or limited in Sunday's game against the Cleveland Browns. The team has a first-round bye wouldn't play again until either Saturday, Jan. 13, or Sunday, Jan. 14, depending on the NFL schedule.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger has thrown at least two touchdowns in each of the last seven games and at least 280 yards in five of those games. He should play next week against the Cleveland Browns and can be a No. 1 fantasy quarterback.

Sun, 17 Dec 2017 20:42:34 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger completed 22 of his 30 pass attempts for 281 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in the Week 15 game against the New England Patriots.

Fantasy Tip: Big Ben nearly had a third touchdown, which might have been the game-winning score, but instant replay overturned it in a controversial ruling to some. He also lost Antonio Brown fairly early to injury and will be without him for the remainder of the regular season, so that hurts his fantasy appeal into Week 16 and Week 17.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger completed 44 of his career-high 66 attempts for 506 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 14 win against the Baltimore Ravens.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger shredded a Baltimore pass defense which hasn't allowed a 300-yard passer all season. He hooked up with Antonio Brown 11 times for 213 yards, as those two continue to click. He'll look to keep it rolling against the New England Patriots in Week 15.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger reaches milestone

Wed, 06 Dec 2017 19:59:35 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger became the eighth player in NFL history to reach 50,000 passing yards, doing so in the team's Week 13 victory Monday, Dec. 4, against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Fantasy Tip: Fittingly, he did it in style, leading his club from a 17-point deficit opposite a fierce division rival to pick up the win. Since a slow start to the campaign that saw him produce more interceptions than touchdowns in the first six weeks, Roethlisberger has settled in nicely, and in four of his last five games, he's logged at least 290 yards through the air. Keep riding him as your QB1 in the fantasy playoffs if he's on your roster.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger continues on roll

Mon, 04 Dec 2017 22:13:37 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger completed 24-of-40 passes for 290 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in the team's Week 13 win Monday, Dec. 4, against the Cincinnati Bengals. He also added one rush for four yards.

Fantasy Tip: It was Big Ben's third straight game with at least 290 passing yards, and over that stretch, he's tossed 10 touchdown passes compared to three interceptions. This is the version of Roethlisberger owners were waiting for following his quiet start to the season, and his excellence is coming at the most important time of the fantasy year. With the way he's going right now, he's as dangerous a QB1 as any in pro football.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger completed 33 of 45 passes for 351 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions in the Week 12 game against the Green Bay Packers.

Fantasy Tip: Big Ben has posted huge numbers over the past two games, and he and Antonio Brown are back on the same page with five touchdowns during the span. Roethlisberger didn't look very good at the beginning of the season, but he's looking like a QB1 in most fantasy formats right now.

Steelers | Four touchdowns for Big Ben

Thu, 16 Nov 2017 20:59:25 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger completed 30 of his 45 passes for 299 yards and four touchdowns and rushed once for 10 yards in a 40-17 win over the Tennessee Titans in Week 11.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger has been mired in a stretch of mediocrity, and this was the first time he has thrown more than two touchdowns all season and just the fourth time he has thrown zero interceptions. Despite the big performance, he should only be viewed as a streaming option against friendly matchups.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger practices Tuesday

Tue, 14 Nov 2017 16:38:37 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (non-injury) fully participated in practice Tuesday, Nov. 14.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger has seen a drop in his numbers this season and has struggled with interceptions. He still has a solid group of pass catchers to work with is should only be a low-end No. 1 quarterback in deeper leagues.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger limited

Mon, 13 Nov 2017 14:01:07 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (non-injury) was limited during practice Monday, Nov. 13. The Steelers did not hold a practice Monday, so this is an estimation.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger has been a disappointing option for owners in 2017 and only has 12 touchdowns in nine games. He has been playing a little better lately but probably should only be considered a No. 2 quarterback in most leagues.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger completed 19 of his 31 pass attempts for 236 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in the Week 10 game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Fantasy Tip: Big Ben rallied the team from 17-9 down, outscoring the Colts 11-0 in the final quarter. A 7-yard scoring strike to Vance McDonald and a two-point conversion pass to Martavis Bryant helped tie it, then a long pass to Antonio Brown set up the game-winning field goal. The Steelers have a quick turnaround against the Titans on Thursday in Week 11.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger tosses two TDs

Sun, 22 Oct 2017 20:24:10 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger completed 14 of his 24 pass attempts for 224 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 7 game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Fantasy Tip: It wasn't a giant stat line for Big Ben, but it's a huge improvement over his last game at home when he had a career-high five interceptions two weeks ago against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He remains a low-end QB1 or must-start QB2 in all fantasy leagues heading into Week 8 in Detroit.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger doesn't do much

Sun, 15 Oct 2017 19:18:31 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger completed 17 of his 25 pass attempts for 252 yards, one touchdown and one interception in the Week 6 game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Fantasy Tip: The good news is that he cleaned up the interceptions after having a career-high five picks last week. His only touchdown was an acrobatic catch and run by Antonio Brown in the fourth quarter, or this line would be even worse. He'll look for better results back home in Week 7 against the Cincinnati Bengals, but right now he is looking more like a QB2 in most fantasy formats.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger has disastrous day

Sun, 08 Oct 2017 14:05:11 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger completed 33 of his 55 pass attempts for 312 yards, no touchdowns and a career-high five interceptions.

Fantasy Tip: Big Ben's yardage total was fine, but two of his career-high five picks were returned for touchdowns and he finished with a terrible 37.8 passer rating. He faces another tough matchup on the road in Week 6 against the Chiefs, so it might be a good idea to go another way if you normally depend upon him.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger plays well at home but will be facing the top ranked pass defense in the Jacksonville Jaguars. He has thrown for more than 250 yards only once this season but can still be a low-end No. 1 quarterback in deeper leagues.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger fully practices Thursday

Thu, 05 Oct 2017 16:49:26 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (non-injury) was a full participant at practice Thursday, Oct. 5, one day after he did not practice.

Fantasy Tip: There's no question Roethlisberger will suit up on Sunday against the Jaguars. While Jacksonville has sported a more-than-competent defense thus far, the Steelers are due for a real big day offensively, which could make this the first game they reach 27 points this season. He's still a QB1 in this matchup.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger has received Wednesdays off the last few weeks but will be ready to play against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 5. He has not thrown for more than 263 yards in any game this season but has played better at home over the last few seasons. He may be a low-end No. 1 quarterback in deeper leagues but can be benched if owners have better options.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger completed 18 of his 30 pass attempts for 216 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Week 4 against the Baltimore Ravens.

Fantasy Tip: Big Ben hasn't done anything special so far, totaling six touchdown passes with two interceptions while throwing for 243 or fewer yards in each of his past three outings. He has been putting up QB2-type production so far. He'll look for better results in Week 5 against the visiting Jaguars.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (non-injury) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 29, and is not on the injury report for Week 4.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger has posted solid numbers so far this season but has not thrown for more than 263 yards in any of the three games this season. He struggled on the road the past few season and is facing a good Baltimore Ravens defense. Owners in most leagues can keep Roethlisberger on the bench this week.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger back on the field

Thu, 28 Sep 2017 14:12:53 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (non-injury) fully participated in practice Thursday, Sept. 28.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger has been a decent fantasy option so far this season but likely is not posting the numbers that owners expected when the season started. He continues to be an average quarterback on the road, so owners may want to look for other options to use in their lineups.

Wed, 27 Sep 2017 13:06:49 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (non-injury related) did not practice Wednesday, Sept. 27.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger likely just received a day off from the rigors of the practice field. The 2017 season has been a relative struggle for Big Ben so far and it doesn't look to get easier on the road against the Baltimore Ravens. He's a QB2 in Week 4.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger completed 22 of his 39 pass attempts for 235 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Week 3 against the Chicago Bears. He was sacked three times in the loss and he lost a fumble.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger still hooked up with Antonio Brown 10 times and moved the offense, but his numbers were under average against a Chicago defense which was torched last week in Tampa. Big Ben will look to rebound in Week 4 in Baltimore against a pass defense which was toasted in London by the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger has struggled on the road over the last few seasons but has a chance to play better since all of his pass catchers will be available. He will be facing a Chicago Bears defense that has allowed 502 passing yards in the first two games. Owners in deeper leagues can consider Roethlisberger as a low-end No. 1 quarterback.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (non-injury) fully participated in practice Thursday, Sept. 21.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger is off to a solid start to the season with 506 yards and four touchdowns but will be a risky option for owners because he struggles on the road. He will have a favorable matchup in Week 3 and could still be a low-end No. 1 quarterback in deeper leagues.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger rested Wednesday

Wed, 20 Sep 2017 13:36:45 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (rest) was given the day off to rest at practice Wednesday, Sept. 20.

Fantasy Tip: Big Ben was getting the typical veteran's day to rest, and he'll likely be back at it as a full participant on Thursday as the team ramps up for its Week 3 game in Chicago. He remains a reliable fantasy option, even in what is his final season in the NFL.
