Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger shedding weight

Tue, 05 Apr 2016 09:22:22 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger has lost at least 15 pounds this offseason with a cardio regimen in an attempt to avoid joint pain and injuries.

Fantasy Tip: Big Ben is an option in that upper-middle tier after the elite QBs are taken in fantasy.

Steelers | Big Ben has several more prime years

Mon, 28 Mar 2016 22:13:51 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger has several more prime years, according to general manager Kevin Colbert. Roethlisberger averaged 330 passing yards per game in 12 games last year. "Ben's a franchise quarterback," Colbert said. "We still have, you know, we think three to four more good years in his prime. We're excited to see what he can do in that time period and what we can do to help him be successful."

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger turned 34 this month and still has a very good arm. He has been susceptible to injury and isn't nearly as elusive in the pocket as he used to be. However, he has arguably the best receiver in the game in Antonio Brown, a stud running back in Le'Veon Bell (when healthy) and an exciting option in Ladarius Green at tight end. He remains entrenched in the middle of the QB1 window.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger's stock takes hit

Sat, 12 Mar 2016 11:16:55 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger is expected to have one less target to throw to in 2016 with WR Martavis Bryant facing a year-long suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger still has some quality weapons at his disposal, including Antonio Brown, Le'Veon Bell, Markus Wheaton, Ladarius Green and Sammie Coates. Wheaton and Coates won't be able to fully make up for Bryant's size, athleticism and speed, though. Put Brown at the top of your fantasy wide receiver rankings, if he's not already. Bell is easily a top RB1, while Wheaton can now be part of the WR3 conversation in PPR leagues. Again, Green is a borderline tight end starter.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger has years left

Fri, 29 Jan 2016 14:45:39 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger has not shown any decline in his play and is expected to play several more seasons, according to team president Art Rooney II. Rooney said the team is not looking to start grooming their next starting quarterback at this point.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger dealt with multiple injuries this season but still posted solid numbers for fantasy owners. He should have most of his weapons back next season and will be a starting quarterback in most fantasy leagues.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger happy with play

Fri, 22 Jan 2016 17:49:49 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger said he feels like he is playing some of his best football and will work on keeping his arm strong this offseason. Roethlisberger has completed 67.1% and 68.0% of his passes over the last two seasons, which are the best two seasons of his career.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger played very well when he was healthy this season and threw for nearly 4,000 yards even though he missed four games. He should have all of his main weapons back next season and will be a starting quarterback in most leagues.

Steelers | Big Ben won't need surgery

Tue, 19 Jan 2016 11:15:20 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) said he will not need surgery on his right shoulder in the offseason. He will take some time off in the next few weeks to let the injury heal. "From what I've been told by Doc (James) Bradley, no surgery," Roethlisberger said. "The ligaments will scar up and heal on their own. The only thing he could foresee possibly down the road is cleaning out the arthritis and scars. I don't foresee any surgeries anytime soon." He also said he took a painkilling shot Friday, Jan. 15, and probably wouldn't have gotten through the divisional round without it.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger still managed to throw for over 300 yards against the top-rated pass defense in the Denver Broncos, and he did it two times this year. He'll be fully healed in time for next year, and with this receiver corps, he's an elite QB1 for fantasy owners.

Steelers | No scores for Ben Roethlisberger

Sun, 17 Jan 2016 17:20:20 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger completed 24 of 37 passes for 339 yards in a 23-16 loss to the Denver Broncos in the divisional round of the playoffs Sunday, Jan. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Despite an injured shoulder, Roethlisberger was able to move the ball with ease against a tough Denver secondary, but he was unable to finish off drives with touchdowns. He will have plenty of weapons at his disposal next year, and he could finish as a top-five fantasy option at his position.

Steelers | Big Ben has entire playbook available

Sun, 17 Jan 2016 06:25:17 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger's (shoulder) arm isn't expected to be full strength, but he'll have the whole playbook available Sunday, Jan. 17, in the divisional round.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger ($8,700, 17.4% of cap) receives kudos for suiting up, but he's without RB DeAngelo Williams (foot) and WR Antonio Brown (concussion). He doesn't have a lot of upside against the Denver Broncos.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger expected to start

Sat, 16 Jan 2016 10:27:54 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) will travel with the team and is expected to start against the Denver Broncos Sunday, Jan. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger ($8,700, 17.4% of cap) isn't at full health, and he won't have his top wide receiver to throw to tomorrow. He won't have DeAngelo Williams to hand off to, either, so it could be tough going for Pittsburgh's offense tomorrow against an elite Denver defense. Start Big Ben at your own risk.

Steelers | Big Ben puts in full practice

Fri, 15 Jan 2016 10:07:36 -0800

Updating a previous report, Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) put in a full practice Friday, Jan. 15, but is listed as questionable for the divisional round game against the Denver Broncos Sunday, Jan. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger ($8,700, 17.4% of cap) is expected to play, but his throwing may be somewhat compromised, and he'll also be without the NFL's leading receiver this year in Antonio Brown (concussion). We don't recommend paying up for Big Ben against a nasty pass defense.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger questionable

Fri, 15 Jan 2016 09:47:47 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) is listed as questionable for the divisional game against the Denver Broncos Sunday, Jan. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Big Ben ($8,700, 17.4% of cap) won't be close to 100% for this one and could struggle to go deep. He'll also be without his favorite receiver, Antonio Brown (concussion). That's a recipe for a tough day against the top-rated pass defense in the NFL this season.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger does some throwing

Fri, 15 Jan 2016 09:38:40 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) said he threw briefly during practice Friday, Jan. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger ($8,700, 17.4% of cap) was limited in practice Thursday, so we fully expect him to tough it out against the Denver Broncos. He may have trouble with the deep ball and putting velocity on his passes, though, and he'll also be without his favorite target, Antonio Brown (concussion). This is not the weekend to pay up for Big Ben.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger limited

Thu, 14 Jan 2016 14:18:45 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) put in a limited practice Thursday, Jan. 14.

Fantasy Tip: It's unclear how much Roethlisberger ($8,700, 17.4% of cap) threw in practice, but we expect him to play against the Denver Broncos, even if he's limited. However, a limited QB against the best pass defense in the NFL isn't attractive at all on FantasyScore this weekend.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger 4-0 in divisional round

Thu, 14 Jan 2016 13:11:34 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger is undefeated in the divisional round of the playoffs at 4-0 in his career. He'll look to make that record 5-0 against the Denver Broncos Sunday, Jan. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger ($8,700, 17.4% of cap) will have to play in order to maintain his perfect divisional record. That's not a guaranteed right now, but it would be hard to believe him missing this game, especially when he came back into last week's game against the Cincinnati Bengals. With Antonio Brown and DeAngelo Williams ailing, Roethlisberger may be too big of a risk for your starting FantasyScore quarterback.

Steelers | Big Ben not good on the road

Wed, 13 Jan 2016 17:05:45 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger had just five of his 21 touchdowns on the road this year, and three of those came against the Cleveland Browns.

Fantasy Tip: If Roethlisberger ($8,700, 17.4% of cap) wasn't already an extremely shaky pick this weekend against the top-rated pass defense of the Denver Broncos, this surely seals the deal. On top of it, Big Ben is fighting to play through a serious right shoulder injury. Look elsewhere.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger misses practice

Wed, 13 Jan 2016 14:24:48 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) did not take part in practice Wednesday, Jan. 13, and he said he did not throw at all. He has yet to throw since a wild-card victory over the Cincinnati Bengals after suffering an AC joint sprain. Roethlisberger said he's unsure when he'll throw again, and he'll continue to receive treatment. He said it'll be "tough" for him to play in the divisional round against the Denver Broncos if he can't throw downfield. An AC joint sprain hinders the ability to throw with velocity. QB Landry Jones would make his third start of his career if Roethlisberger can't play.

Fantasy Tip: Big Ben ($8,700, 17.4% of cap) is as tough as they come, so he'll probably still play. But why risk it with a high-priced injured player against the top passing defense in the league? That wouldn't be wise on FantasyScore.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger hour to hour

Wed, 13 Jan 2016 09:53:18 -0800

Updating previous reports, Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) said he's "hour to hour" and plans on taking mental repetitions Wednesday, Jan. 13. He also said he doesn't know when he would need to throw by to be ready for the divisional game Sunday, Jan. 17.

Fantasy Tip: It's hard to see Roethlisberger ($8,700, 17.4% of cap) playing against the Denver Broncos at a high enough level to warrant the start on FantasyScore.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger wants to play

Wed, 13 Jan 2016 09:07:46 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) said he wants to play in the divisional matchup against the Denver Broncos Sunday, Jan. 17, but admitted he'd be hurting the team if he can't make all the necessary throws downfield.

Fantasy Tip: We'd be pretty surprised if Big Ben sits this one out, but he won't be 100% on the field, and a matchup against the toughest defense against the pass this year won't help. Look to fade Roethlisberger on FantasyScore, especially if Antonio Brown (concussion) isn't able to play.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger to be limited?

Tue, 12 Jan 2016 16:27:47 -0800

Updating a previous report, Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) is expected to be a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Jan. 13. He will also ramp up his workload as the week progresses.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger ($8,700, 17.4% of cap) still isn't a sure bet to play this weekend, but head coach Mike Tomlin has already said he has a chance to play. If he is available, he may be without Antonio Brown and DeAngelo Williams. The Denver Broncos are an elite pass defense anyway, so there's plenty of risk in starting Big Ben on FantasyScore this week.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger unsure of status

Tue, 12 Jan 2016 09:08:05 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) isn't sure if he'll be able to play against the Denver Broncos in the divisional round Sunday, Jan. 17. "It didn't hurt when I reached back to throw," Roethlisberger said of his heroic late-game drive. "But it was pushing forward to throw and then the end of the throw. So I definitely felt like I was shortening up my motion up a little bit, which is why we threw some screens, and couldn't really get the ball down the field… I think it just more affected how I could throw it." He's unsure how much he'll do in practice this week.

Fantasy Tip: Sources said yesterday that Big Ben was likely to play against the Broncos, but that was before he revealed he also had torn ligaments in addition to an AC joint sprain. Roethlisberger is as tough as they come, so we wouldn't be surprised if he played. But being limited against the No. 1 pass defense in the league should make you want to avoid him in daily leagues.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger remains day-to-day

Tue, 12 Jan 2016 09:04:13 -0800

Updating an ongoing story, Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) said his status is still day-to-day despite revealing that he has torn ligaments in his right shoulder along with a sprained AC joint. Sources said Monday, Jan. 11, that Roethlisberger is likely to play against the Denver Broncos in the divisional round.

Fantasy Tip: Big Ben is as tough as they come, and he'll likely be able to tough it out against the Broncos. However, he won't be close to 100%, and the injury to his shoulder could compromise his ability to make all the necessary throws. The Broncos were the toughest fantasy matchup for quarterbacks this year, so Roethlisberger should be faded this week on FantasyScore, especially if he doesn't have his favorite weapon in Antonio Brown (concussion).

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger has shoulder damage

Tue, 12 Jan 2016 08:55:02 -0800

Updating previous reports, Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) said he has torn ligaments in his right shoulder along with a sprained AC joint.

Fantasy Tip: Big Ben ($8,700, 17.4% of cap) looks to have a tall order to be able to play against the Denver Broncos in the divisional round. Even if he does, you have to think his range of motion and arm strength will be limited. He's not a good choice on FantasyScore this weekend.

Steelers | Big Ben has separated shoulder

Mon, 11 Jan 2016 21:25:00 -0800

Updating a previous report, Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) has a separated right shoulder. He is still expected to try and play in the AFC Divisional Round playoff game against the Denver Broncos this weekend, but it depends on extent of damage.

Fantasy Tip: If Roethlisberger ($8,500, 17.0% of cap) cannot play, it would be Landry Jones ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) making the start this weekend. Even if Big Ben plays, he is not a recommended FantasyScore option.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger expected to play

Mon, 11 Jan 2016 16:42:38 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) likely will be able to play in the divisional round playoff game against the Denver Broncos Sunday, Jan. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger probably will not do much during practice this week but should be ready for the game. Roethlisberger is a risky option for owners because it is not known if the injury will affect his ability to throw the ball and he may be without Antonio Brown. Owners should look for other options to use in their lineups.

Steelers | Big Ben optimistic to play

Mon, 11 Jan 2016 06:23:10 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) should be able to play in the divisional round of the playoffs if he doesn't suffer a setback. He has been diagnosed with a shoulder strain, and the team will take every precaution with him this week. Roethlisberger won't throw early in the week and may not throw until Thursday, Jan. 14.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger will be a bit of a risky QB1 against the Denver Broncos on FantasyScore.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger to undergo MRI

Sun, 10 Jan 2016 10:09:51 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) is scheduled to undergo an MRI on his injured shoulder Sunday, Jan. 10. The initial belief is that Rothlisberger is dealing with a sprained AC joint.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to monitor the practice participation during the week to see if Roethlisberger has any chance to play against the Denver Broncos. He will be facing a tough Broncos defense and may not be a great option even if he is active.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger returns

Sat, 09 Jan 2016 20:41:24 -0800

Updating a previous story, Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) returned to the AFC wild-card game against the Cincinnati Bengals Saturday, Jan. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Whatever injury Roethlisberger is dealing with, he is going to try to gut it out and help the Steelers advance in the playoffs. It remains to be seen if he will be effective.

Sat, 09 Jan 2016 20:21:29 -0800

Updating a previous story, Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) returned to the sidelines against the Cincinnati Bengals, but QB Landry Jones remains in the game.

Fantasy Tip: It remains to be seen if Roethlisberger is able to return to the game, but it is at least a good sign that he is out of the locker room and in pads.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) has a right shoulder injury and is questionable to return against the Cincinnati Bengals in their AFC wild-card game Saturday, Jan. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Depending on the severity of the injury, it could have major fantasy implications moving forward if the Steelers advance.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (arm) was taken to the locker room on a cart after falling on his right arm against the Cincinnati Bengals in their AFC wild-card game Saturday, Jan. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger fell hard on his throwing shoulder. Stay tuned for updates, but it could be a serious injury. Landry Jones will take over at quarterback.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger talks Martavis Bryant

Tue, 05 Jan 2016 12:22:08 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Martavis Bryant (neck) needs to toughen up, according to QB Ben Roethlisberger. "You've got to get tough and you've got to make tough plays and you've got to make tough catches and you have to find ways to do everything you can to help this team," Roethlisberger said in regards to Bryant. Bryant did leave last week's game early with a neck strain. As far as Bryant's play is concerned, he finished with two catches for six yards in his last two games, although the neck strain attributed to him leaving in the first quarter of last week's game and not returning. He should still be able to play this weekend against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Fantasy Tip: Bryant hasn't been playing up to par lately. Of course, Bryant missed some practice time last week with an illness, but perhaps Roethlisberger's statements will pump up Bryant for the first round of the playoffs. That being said, he's still a risky option if you're participating in a playoffs league.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger throws three TDs

Sun, 03 Jan 2016 13:59:53 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger went 24-for-36 for 349 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions against the Cleveland Browns in Week 17.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger has struggled on the road this season and has thrown seven interceptions in his last four games. He will be facing either the Denver Broncos or the Cincinnati Bengals in the Wild Card game and may not be a great option on FantasyScore.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger struggling on road

Sat, 02 Jan 2016 18:51:16 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger faces the Cleveland Browns on the road in Week 17, and he has two touchdowns and seven interceptions on the road this season.

Fantasy Tip: His road numbers aren't exactly comforting, but Roethlisberger ($8,500, 17.0% of cap) torched the Browns in Pittsburgh earlier this year. With the Steelers fighting for a spot in the playoffs, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Roethlisberger have a big game.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger should play

Fri, 01 Jan 2016 12:10:16 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (illness) fully participated in practice Friday, Jan. 1, and is listed as probable for the Week 17 game against the Cleveland Browns.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger ($8,500, 17.0% of cap) has posted terrific numbers in most games this season but did struggle in the last game. He will have a favorable matchup against the Browns this week and should be a solid starting option in most leagues.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger returns

Thu, 31 Dec 2015 13:45:58 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (illness) fully participated in practice Thursday, Dec. 31.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger ($8,500, 17.0% of cap) should be fine to play against the Cleveland Browns this week and will have a favorable matchup. He is coming off one of the worst starts of his season but should still be a starting option in all leagues.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger expected to play

Wed, 30 Dec 2015 10:13:35 -0800

Updating a previous report, Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (illness) is expected to play in Week 17 against the Cleveland Browns despite being sent home sick Wednesday, Dec. 30.

Fantasy Tip: Big Ben ($8,500, 17.0% of cap) should be fine to play in the season finale. He has a great opportunity to bounce back from his stinker last week, and expect the Steelers to air it out plenty with a playoff berth still on the line. Pairing him with a Pittsburgh receiver on FantasyScore looks like a nice strategy.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger sick Wednesday

Wed, 30 Dec 2015 09:44:08 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (illness) was sent home sick Wednesday, Dec. 30, and is unlikely to practice later in the day unless his status changes.

Fantasy Tip: Missing a Wednesday practice isn't all that important, but if Big Ben's ($8,500, 17.0% of cap) illness lasts into the later portion of the week, you might want to be a little concerned. His matchup with the Cleveland Browns is a great one, and he's likely to rebound from his stinker in Week 16. He's certainly worth paying up for.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger comes up small

Sun, 27 Dec 2015 16:10:08 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger completed 24 of 34 passes for 214 yards and two interceptions in a 20-17 loss to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 16.

Fantasy Tip: One week after torching the best secondary in the league, Roethlisberger delivered a dud against one of the weaker defenses. It was likely just a blip on the radar, but it couldn’t have come at worst time for fantasy owners playing in championship games in seasonal leagues.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger completed 40 of 55 passes for 380 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in a 34-27 win over the Denver Broncos in Week 15.

Fantasy Tip: The stingy secondary has been dubbed the No Fly Zone, but Roethlisberger shredded the unit. He is strong starting option at FantasyScore regardless of the opponent.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger completed 30 of his 39 pass attempts for 282 yards and an interception in a 33-20 win over the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 14.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger was very efficient throwing the ball, but the Steelers built a big lead and were content to run and burn clock. He won't disappoint often, but he does have another tough test on tap in Week 15 against a stout Denver secondary.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger on nice run

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 09:16:09 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger has thrown for at least 300 yards in his last four games, including back-to-back games with 350-plus yards. He has thrown for 810 yards and five scores in the last two games and the Steelers have put up 152 points in the last four games.

Fantasy Tip: Big Ben ($8,400, 16.8% of cap) is one of the elite fantasy quarterbacks in the game, the problem is he hasn't been a picture of health this year. However, when he's on the field he's typically gold for fantasy owners. This week against the Cincinnati Bengals, though, you may want to fade him on FantasyScore. Cincy is a tough matchup for quarterbacks this year and Roethlisberger tossed three interceptions in their first matchup this year.

Fantasy Tip: Roethlisberger ($8,400, 16.8% of cap) draws a favorable matchup in Week 13 against the Indianapolis Colts, and he has a number of weapons at his disposal to help him take advantage. While pricey, Roethlisberger is a solid start at FantasyScore this week after averaging 418 passing yards and two touchdowns over his past two games.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger expects to play

Tue, 01 Dec 2015 09:09:08 -0800

Updating a previous report, Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (head) said he does not have a concussion and expects to practice Wednesday, Dec. 2, and play in Week 13 against the Indianapolis Colts. Meanwhile, the NFL and the Players Association are investigating the circumstances surrounding Roethlisberger sustaining a concussion in Week 12, according to sources. Roethlisberger played nine snaps after a hit to his head but was removed from the game later when he told doctors he was "having some vision problems," and he said that he still has a migraine.

Fantasy Tip: Keep a close eye on Big Ben this week, but as long as he doesn't suffer any setbacks in practice, he should be good to go against the Colts. Indy represents a top-10 fantasy matchup for quarterbacks, so Roethlisberger should be a pretty safe daily play if he's fully healthy.
