Chargers | San Diego unlikely to take QB early

Thu, 03 Mar 2016 17:17:54 -0800

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers can still lead the team to wins moving forward, and the Chargers should not consider selecting a quarterback with the third overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, in the opinion of NFL Network's Brian Baldinger.

Fantasy Tip: Rivers has thrown at least 25 touchdowns in each of his last eight seasons and should continue to be the team's starting quarterback for a few more seasons. Rivers probably will be a low-end No. 1 quarterback in most leagues next season.

Chargers | Philip Rivers considered retirement

Tue, 26 Jan 2016 17:03:57 -0800

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers considered retirement after the 2014 season when he dealt with rib and back injuries. He eventually signed a four-year contract extension last August, and Rivers now says he feels far better this offseason than last.

"This year, physically, I'm great. Emotionally, it's been rough, but I'm excited -- I really am excited about who the new core is going to be. I'm excited to be part of that group. I'm waiting for it, kind of letting them take it. ... It's not going to be the buddies I came with; they're going to be gone," Rivers said.

Fantasy Tip: Rivers started the year out really hot but proceeded to fade in the second half, mainly because the Chargers receiving corps was decimated by injuries. He managed a career-best 4,792 yards and 29 touchdowns to 13 interceptions. A lack of a ground game led to a staggering 661 attempts in 2015. If the run game improves next year and his offensive line can protect, Rivers can remain a potent QB1 even at age 34.

Chargers | Philip Rivers threw the most in 2015

Tue, 05 Jan 2016 17:13:39 -0800

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers led the league with 661 pass attempts this season -- the most since Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford threw an all-time record 727 times in 2012. His 661 attempts were also the sixth most all time in one season.

Fantasy Tip: The Chargers were behind on the scoreboard early and often this season, so Rivers really had no choice but to throw a lot to try to keep San Diego in games. He has thrown for at least 4,000 yards in seven of his last eight seasons and remains in the QB1 conversation heading into next season.

Chargers | Philip Rivers shows toughness

Sun, 03 Jan 2016 22:15:47 -0800

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers completed 21 of his 35 pass attempts for 228 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in the Week 17 game against the Denver Broncos.

Fantasy Tip: Rivers was playing behind a decimated offensive line for most of the season, and with a cadre of receivers that even he had a tough time remembering their name. Still, he gritted through it and posted better than average results. He showed he can still be a solid fantasy option, and it would really be nice to see him with a healthy offensive line and NFL-caliber receivers again.

Chargers | Philip Rivers throws for 263 yards

Sun, 13 Dec 2015 21:04:38 -0800

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers completed 24 of his 43 pass attempts for 263 yards, no touchdowns and one interception in the Week 14 game against the Kansas City Chiefs and he also ran once for four yards.

Fantasy Tip: Rivers has been snakebitten this season. He started out well, but his receivers have dropped like flies and his offensive line has been banged up for most of the season. He cannot be trusted in FantasyScore for the remainder of the season.

Chargers | Philip Rivers will play Sunday

Sun, 13 Dec 2015 07:00:56 -0800

Confirming a previous report, San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers (illness, foot) will start Week 14's game against the Kansas City Chiefs despite having the flu. QBs Kellen Clemens and Brad Sorensen will also dress for the game.

Fantasy Tip: Rivers ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) was officially listed as probable on the club's injury report and missed the team's walkthrough Saturday, Dec. 12. He is a risky play in FantasyScore, especially given the difficulty of his matchup against Kansas City.

Chargers | Philip Rivers battling flu

Sat, 12 Dec 2015 14:13:34 -0800

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers (illness, foot) is battling a flu bug, but one team official said it would take more than that to keep him out Sunday, Dec. 13.

Fantasy Tip: Rivers ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) has a tough matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs, and he doesn't have a lot of upside on FantasyScore this week.

Chargers | Arrowhead tough on Philip Rivers

Fri, 11 Dec 2015 18:32:00 -0800

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers faces the Kansas City Chiefs on the road in Week 14, and in his last four starts at Arrowhead Stadium, Rivers has five touchdowns and five interceptions.

Fantasy Tip: With Rivers ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) and the San Diego offense struggling to deal with a variety of injuries, a matchup against a surging Kansas City defense is the last thing he needs. Avoid him at FantasyScore.

Chargers | Philip Rivers should play

Fri, 11 Dec 2015 13:48:45 -0800

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers (foot) fully participated in practice Friday, Dec. 11, and is listed as probable for the Week 14 game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Fantasy Tip: Rivers ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) has played well at times this season but has gone two of his last three games without a touchdown pass. Rivers will be facing a solid Chiefs defense this week and may not be a great option to start.

Chargers | Philip Rivers, Ladarius Green full go

Thu, 10 Dec 2015 14:45:06 -0800

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers (foot) and TE Ladarius Green (ankle) participated fully in practice Thursday, Dec. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Green ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) may be more active this week with the Chargers depleted wide receivers. He's not the most reliable tight end, but if you're looking for a cheaper tight end on FantasyScore with high potential, Green is a candidate. Rivers ($6,600, 13.2%) doesn't have a lot of weapons to throw to against a tough Kansas City Chiefs defense, so don't put him at the top of your Week 14 fantasy quarterback totem pole.
