Chargers | Philip Rivers checks out

Sat, 29 Aug 2015 20:54:38 -0700

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers' (finger) X-rays on his finger were negative following a preseason game Saturday, Aug. 29, and he said he would have continued to play if it had been the regular season.

Fantasy Tip: It sounds like Rivers dodged a serious injury, and he should be viewed as a low-end QB1 or one of the top backups.

Chargers | SD will use shotgun less

Wed, 19 Aug 2015 12:27:39 -0700

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers and the rest of the San Diego offense will not be lined up in the shotgun as much in 2015. Rivers will line up under center more this season in an attempt to create a more balanced offense, according to head coach Mike McCoy. McCoy added that the Chargers' opponent will influence how often they use shotgun.

Fantasy Tip: The Chargers have a solid group of running backs, so they can afford not to use the shotgun formation as much this season. This won't necessarily mean less production for Rivers, but that could end up being the case. He's still worth drafting as a low-end QB1 to high-end QB2.

Chargers | Philip Rivers working on extension

Wed, 12 Aug 2015 11:04:47 -0700

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers has made progress in contract extension talks with the team, but there still appears to be one or two issues to be worked out. The Chargers are willing to use the franchise tag on Rivers in the next two offseason if the two sides are not able to reach an agreement.

Fantasy Tip: Rivers likely will remain with the team for at least the next few seasons even if he does not sign an extension. Rivers is coming off a solid 2014 season and has several weapons to work with in the passing game. Rivers could be a low-end No. 1 or an elite No. 2 quarterback in most leagues this season.

Chargers | Philip Rivers strengthened core

Mon, 20 Jul 2015 05:31:25 -0700

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers focused on core strengthening in his offseason training program after he played through back and rib injuries last season. "Troy Aikman is a guy who really told me this years ago," Rivers said. "He said as he got older, doing more and more core stuff for your back, for everything, to him was of utmost importance. I've done that maybe a little more so, just the stability there with the core. Other than that, I've done a similar routine. No drastic changes."

Fantasy Tip: Rivers enters a contract year as a solid QB1 to target after the top four or five are taken.
