Chargers | Philip Rivers to receive extension?

Thu, 21 May 2015 16:18:39 -0700

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers and the Chargers are optimistic about a long-term extension. Rivers had been the subject of trade rumors prior to the NFL Draft.

Fantasy Tip: Rivers is coming off two consecutive seasons of at least 4,200 passing yards and 30 touchdowns, so an extension seems to be deserved, even despite a league-high 18 interceptions in 2014. Rivers has been a QB1 the last two seasons, so there's no reason to believe he can't attain that status this season.

Titans | Philip Rivers never in serious play

Sat, 02 May 2015 01:29:40 -0700

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers was never targeted by the Tennessee Titans, as the Chargers made clear they weren't dealing Rivers from the start.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like the Titans were interested in Marcus Mariota all along, which leaves Rivers in San Diego. He may work out an extension with the Chargers, but for now Rivers will play out one final season and should be a decent start against some opponents.

Chargers | Philip Rivers did not expect trade

Fri, 01 May 2015 15:21:00 -0700

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers said he did not ask for a trade this offseason and did not expect to be traded during the draft. Rivers said he is open to a possible contract extension but is also comfortable with playing out his contract.

Fantasy Tip: Rivers looks to be the Chargers' starting quarterback entering training camp, but there likely will continue to be talks about a possible extension. Rivers has a solid 2014 season and could be a starting option against certain matchups.

Chargers | SD meets with Philip Rivers' reps

Wed, 29 Apr 2015 11:08:36 -0700

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers' representatives met with the Chargers last week to discuss a possible contract extension.

Fantasy Tip: Rivers has not shown a lot of enthusiasm about an extension, because there is a chance the team could move to Los Angeles. Rivers likely will be starting for the Chargers or the Tennessee Titans next season and could be a starter in fantasy leagues against certain matchups.

Chargers | Philip Rivers won't be traded

Tue, 28 Apr 2015 15:03:34 -0700

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers will not be traded, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Additionally, the Chargers will not extend Rivers' contract as of now, but they would like to get an extension done.

Fantasy Tip: So much for the prospect of Rivers wearing a different uniform in 2015, although who know what his demeanor and attitude will be if he didn't want to stay with the team. He's still a solid fantasy quarterback and should be considered in QB1 territory.

Chargers | Philip Rivers to receive extension?

Tue, 28 Apr 2015 15:00:41 -0700

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers could still receive an extension, according to Rivers' agent, despite being the subject of trade rumors leading up to the NFL Draft.

Fantasy Tip: Assuming Rivers does stay in San Diego, he's a QB1 candidate heading into 2015. Rivers is coming off consecutive 30-plus touchdown, 4,000-plus yard seasons, so he still has plenty left in the tank.

Chargers | Philip Rivers hasn't been discussed

Mon, 27 Apr 2015 18:11:00 -0700

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers hadn't been the topic of conversations between the Chargers and other NFL teams as of Monday, April 27. There have been plenty of trade rumors surrounding Rivers this offseason, but a trade is unlikely prior to the start of the NFL Draft Thursday, April 30.

Fantasy Tip: Rivers should continue to be a strong fantasy QB1 in most matchups this season. Rivers has plenty of weapons in the passing game, and the addition of a running back via the draft would only help things further.

Chargers | Philip Rivers trade unlikely

Mon, 27 Apr 2015 11:09:37 -0700

Updating previous reports, San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers is unlikely to be traded to the Tennessee Titans on draft day this Thursday, April 30. A deal couldn't be done without Rivers signing a contract extension and passing a physical with the Titans, and neither of those have been in motion this week. The Cleveland Browns and St. Louis Rams are other teams that may be willing to trade with the Titans for the No. 2 overall pick in order to take Oregon QB Marcus Mariota.

Fantasy Tip: Rivers is likely to stay in San Diego for at least one more season, and he has the weapons around him to continue his fine 2014 season as a strong QB1 option most weeks.

Chargers | Philip Rivers disgruntled with SD?

Wed, 22 Apr 2015 14:25:28 -0700

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers may be losing faith in the organization, according to NFL Network analyst and former Chargers' RB LaDainian Tomlinson. "The parts around him keep on moving… Philip could be looking at the situation and thinking 'we're not close to winning a championship anytime soon'," Tomlinson said. Rivers, however, has shown up for the start of the offseason program.

Fantasy Tip: It's promising that Rivers is present for the start of the offseason, but all is not well in San Diego it seems. There has been speculation that Rivers could be traded in correlation with the NFL Draft, but that remains to be seen, of course. He should still be regarded as a fringe QB1.

Chargers | SD plans to keep Philip Rivers

Wed, 22 Apr 2015 11:22:43 -0700

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers is the team's starting quarterback, and the team intends to keep it that way for a while, according to general manager Tom Telesco.

Fantasy Tip: Rivers is expected to play out the final year of his contract since he does not known where the team will play in the future. There have been rumors that Rivers could be traded leading up to the draft, but it appears the team wants to keep Rivers. Rivers may not be an every week starter in fantasy leagues next season but there will be matchups where he could be a solid starting option.
