Ravens | No practice for Benjamin Watson

Thu, 19 Oct 2017 10:55:32 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Benjamin Watson (knee) missed practice Thursday, Oct. 19.

Fantasy Tip: As noted in the Mike Wallace tip, there are hopefully better options in your lineup than starting any Raven. Most of them are injured and they face a tough test in the Minnesota Vikings this week. Try to stay away from Watson and company if possible.

Ravens | Benjamin Watson catches six passes

Sun, 15 Oct 2017 15:08:21 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Benjamin Watson caught six passes for 28 yards against the Chicago Bears in Week 6.

Fantasy Tip: Watson has been limited to 30 yards over the last two games but has been targeted at least eight times in three games this season. He should be owned in all leagues but is not a weekly starting option.

Ravens | Benjamin Watson on track to play

Fri, 06 Oct 2017 16:26:27 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Benjamin Watson (calf) is expected to play in Week 5 even though he is listed as questionable for the game.

Fantasy Tip: Watson has caught at least five passes in two of the last three games and has been targeted 17 times during that span. He is facing an Oakland Raiders defense that has had problems at times against tight ends. Watson could be a low-end No. 1 tight end in some deeper leagues.

LB Terrell Suggs (non-injury) also did not practice but is not listed on the injury report. CB Jaylen Hill (thigh) was limited Friday and is listed as doubtful. S Anthony Levine (thigh), WR Jeremy Maclin (hand), CB Jimmy Smith (Achilles'), TE Benjamin Watson (calf) and S Lardarius Webb (thigh) fully practiced and are listed as questionable.

Ravens | Benjamin Watson remains sidelined

Thu, 05 Oct 2017 11:30:30 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Benjamin Watson (calf) did not participate in practice Thursday, Oct. 5.

Fantasy Tip: Watson only practiced once last week and was active for Week 4, so he should be able to play in Week 5 as long as he practices Friday, Oct. 6. He has been targeted at least six times in two of the last three games and has a solid role in the passing game. He probably can be considered a No. 2 tight end in most leagues and can stay on the bench this week.

Ravens | Benjamin Watson rests up Wednesday

Wed, 04 Oct 2017 10:20:29 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Benjamin Watson (calf) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 4.

Fantasy Tip: Watson played through his calf injury last week, so he will be expected to do so this week as well against the Oakland Raiders. Given the sorry state of the Ravens' passing game at the moment, however, it will be hard to count on him as anything more than a low-end TE2.

Ravens | Benjamin Watson targeted six times

Sun, 01 Oct 2017 18:47:56 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Benjamin Watson posted five receptions for 43 yards in Week 4 against the Pittsburgh Steelers on six targets.

Fantasy Tip: Watson was busy in the pass game, as was Nick Boyle, as the Ravens tried to get the tight ends more incorporated in the offense. Despite the uptick in targets and catches, only fantasy owners in the deepest leagues should pay any mind to Watson or Boyle heading into Week 5 against the Raiders.

Ravens | Benjamin Watson back in action

Sun, 01 Oct 2017 12:40:59 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Benjamin Watson (head) cleared concussion protocol and is back in the game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Fantasy Tip: Good news for Watson owners, who can have him in their lineups moving forward, barring further injuries or setbacks.

Ravens | Benjamin Watson out of the game

Sun, 01 Oct 2017 11:21:23 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Benjamin Watson (head) left the team's Week 4 game early and is going through the concussion protocol.

Fantasy Tip: Watson will have to be cleared before he is able to play again, so he may miss the rest of the Week 4 game. He should be considered a No. 2 tight end in most leagues when he is healthy.

Ravens | Benjamin Watson likely to play

Sun, 01 Oct 2017 05:39:06 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Benjamin Watson (calf) is expected to play in Week 4's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Watson was a full practice participant Friday, Sept. 29, and was listed as questionable on the injury report. Although he could see a decent number of targets versus the Steelers, he should be viewed as nothing more than a low-end TE1 because of Baltimore's shaky quarterback play this season.

Ravens | Baltimore's Week 4 injury report

Fri, 29 Sep 2017 12:14:05 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Maxx Williams (ankle), DT Brandon Williams (foot) and CB Jaylen Hill (thigh) did not participate in practice Friday, Sept. 29, and have been ruled out for Week 4. TE Benjamin Watson (calf) fully participated in practice and is listed as questionable. LB Terrell Suggs (non-injury) did not practice but is not on the injury report.

Ravens | Benjamin Watson listed as questionable

Fri, 29 Sep 2017 12:09:11 -0700

Updating a previous report, Baltimore Ravens TE Benjamin Watson (calf) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 29, and is listed as questionable for Week 4.

Fantasy Tip: Watson could be a game-time decision since he practiced only once this week, so owners should check the inactive list. He was limited to 12 yards last week but did reach the end zone. Owners probably can find better options to use and can avoid Watson.

Ravens | Benjamin Watson practices Friday

Fri, 29 Sep 2017 09:44:48 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Benjamin Watson (calf) was back at practice Friday, Sept. 29, after missing the previous two days with a calf injury.

Fantasy Tip: Watson appears to have assumed control of the position in Baltimore, and his return obviously bodes well for his Week 4 availability versus Pittsburgh Steelers. Given how pathetic the Ravens' passing game looks right now, however, he will be hard to trust as anything more than a low-end TE1 this weekend.

Ravens | No practice for Benjamin Watson

Thu, 28 Sep 2017 10:23:30 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Benjamin Watson (calf) did not practice Thursday, Sept. 28.

Fantasy Tip: The next two days will be telling for Watson. If he doesn't practice tomorrow then there's a good chance he'll be sidelined this week, in which case Nick Boyle would make for a sleeper tight end. Neither are solid TE1 options, however.

Ravens | Benjamin Watson sits out of practice

Wed, 27 Sep 2017 14:06:35 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Benjamin Watson (calf) did not practice Wednesday, Sept. 27.

Fantasy Tip: Watson was the lone bright spot for the Ravens last week with his touchdown. He tallied eight catches for 91 yards the week before, too. For those hurting at tight end, Watson is a serviceable start.

Ravens | Benjamin Watson pulls down eight balls

Sun, 17 Sep 2017 16:52:03 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Benjamin Watson posted eight receptions for 91 yards on his eight targets in Week 2 against Cleveland.

Fantasy Tip: Watson pounded his former team for 11.4 yards per grab. The old man can still get it done, and is worth a look in deeper fantasy leagues if you need help at the tight end position. Joe Flacco always likes to use his tight end.

Ravens | Benjamin Watson listed as No. 2 tight end

Wed, 06 Sep 2017 22:06:09 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Benjamin Watson is listed as the No. 2 tight end on the club's depth chart entering the regular season, behind TE Nick Boyle.

Fantasy Tip: Watson registered career highs in catches (74) and receiving yards (825) in 2015, while also matching a career best with six touchdowns, but he's now 36 years old and missed all of last season after enduring a torn Achilles' during the preseason. Given his current standing, he can probably be left on all waiver wires. Nick Boyle doesn't really offer any upside, either.

Ravens | Benjamin Watson accepts pay cut

Tue, 13 Jun 2017 18:21:42 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Benjamin Watson agreed to restructure his contract last week, which dropped his base salary from $3 million to $1.25 million, according a source. Watson can make up to $3 million this season if he meets certain incentives.

Fantasy Tip: Watson is expected to compete for the starting tight end job during training camp if he is recovered from the torn Achilles' tendon he suffered in 2016. He has played well in the past but would only be a No. 2 fantasy tight end in most leagues.

Ravens | Benjamin Watson ahead of schedule

Wed, 17 May 2017 06:40:04 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Benjamin Watson (Achilles') said he's ahead of schedule in his recovery from a torn Achilles'. "I'm at the point now where I'm very close," Watson said earlier this month. "I'm able to do pretty much everything to some extent. These last couple stages are very important about getting the strength back. The actual Achilles itself is intact."

Ravens | Benjamin Watson's status uncertain

Sat, 11 Mar 2017 11:18:17 -0800

Baltimore Ravens TE Benjamin Watson may be on the roster bubble after the team agreed to a restructured contract with TE Dennis Pitta. The Ravens would save $3 million in salary cap space if Watson is released.

Ravens | Two Ravens to IR

Mon, 29 Aug 2016 07:00:33 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Benjamin Watson (Achilles') and CB Kyle Arrington (undisclosed) were placed on the Reserve/Injured list Monday, Aug. 29.

Fantasy Tip: The Ravens' depth at tight end has been decimated by injury, and Crockett Gillmore is the last one standing. He's little more than a TE2 in fantasy. Dennis Pitta could resurface into the fantasy spotlight if he has anything left after two major hip injuries.

Ravens | Ben Watson suffers torn Achilles'

Sat, 27 Aug 2016 16:39:43 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Benjamin Watson (Achilles') left the field after only two plays Saturday, Aug. 27, against the Detroit Lions, and was later diagnosed with a torn Achilles', ending his season.

Fantasy Tip: It's a crushing blow as the Ravens lured Watson away from the New Orleans Saints this offseason with a two-year, $7 million deal. The nature of the injury is such that it is possible they might get no return on investment on the 35-year-old tight end. With Dennis Pitta and Maxx Williams sidelined by injuries, Baltimore is already down to Crockett Gillmore at the position. If Pitta and Williams are unable to heal quickly, Gillmore could be the Week 1 starter and have the same kind of TE2 impact he had last season.

Ravens | Competition helping Maxx Williams

Sat, 06 Aug 2016 17:46:59 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Maxx Williams has looked healthier and stronger during training camp this year, according to beat writer Mike Preston, and Preston believes the added competition from TE Dennis Pitta and TE Benjamin Watson is making Williams a better player.

Fantasy Tip: The added competition may help him improve as a player, but it is also going to eat into Williams' targets and prevent him from being a worthwhile fantasy option. Outside of dynasty leagues, he can be left undrafted.

Ravens | Benjamin Watson adjusting to new team

Fri, 29 Jul 2016 19:14:07 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Benjamin Watson said he was still working on his timing after the first day of training camp Thursday, July 28, and at one point, he lined up on the outside in a four-receiver set.

Fantasy Tip: Watson isn't going to be able to duplicate the numbers he put up last year while in New Orleans, and he isn't worth drafting outside of leagues that require two tight ends.

Ravens | Maxx Williams tries to stay relevant

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 21:56:27 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Maxx Williams had a promising finish to his rookie season, but he faces plenty of competition for targets with WR Dennis Pitta back from injury and veteran WR Benjamin Watson joining the fray. He cannot afford to fade into the background with all of the competition.

Ravens | Benjamin Watson financials

Tue, 08 Mar 2016 15:14:22 -0800

New Orleans Saints impending free-agent TE Benjamin Watson will sign with the Baltimore Ravens Wednesday, March 9. It's a two-year deal worth $8 million.

Fantasy Tip: As stated earlier, Watson's value takes a decent hit in Baltimore. He's coming off a resurrection of a season last year, but he's no longer in the starting fantasy tight end conversation.

Ravens | Benjamin Watson heading to Baltimore

Tue, 08 Mar 2016 12:10:11 -0800

Updating a previous report, New Orleans Saints impending free-agent TE Benjamin Watson has agreed in principle to a deal with the Baltimore Ravens, according to a source. Details of the deal were not disclosed.

Fantasy Tip: Watson had a career year with the Saints in 2015, but that's about to drastically change in Baltimore. The Ravens spent a high pick on Maxx Williams recently, so they'll likely use Watson more as a blocker. That kills any fantasy value he really had.

Ravens | Benjamin Watson likely leaving Saints

Tue, 08 Mar 2016 12:05:10 -0800

New Orleans Saints impending free-agent TE Benjamin Watson is not expected to return to the Saints and should sign with the Baltimore Ravens, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Watson's fantasy value takes a hit with a move to Baltimore where he will be targeted by a mediocre Joe Flacco instead of an elite Drew Brees. Steve Smith and Kamar Aiken still figure to be the top two receiving threats for the Ravens. Watson should start, but Maxx Williams and Crockett Gillmore will see some playing time, too. Don't draft Watson as your starting fantasy tight end.

Ravens | Baltimore eyeing Benjamin Watson

Tue, 08 Mar 2016 10:53:36 -0800

The Baltimore Ravens are showing strong interest in New Orleans Saints impending free-agent TE Benjamin Watson, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Watson's fantasy value is highest if he remains in New Orleans with Drew Brees. The veteran tight end caught a career-high 74 passes for 825 yards and six touchdowns in 2015. He'd probably be more of a focal point in the offense in Baltimore, but he'd likely be nothing more than a fringe fantasy starting tight end with questions surrounding the rest of the Ravens receiving corps.

Saints | Benjamin Watson likely to remain in NO

Fri, 04 Mar 2016 12:17:14 -0800

Impending free-agent TE Benjamin Watson (Saints) appears to be a good bet to return to the New Orleans Saints, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Watson had a career year in his age-35 season in 2015, finishing with 74 catches for 825 yards and six touchdowns. The 12-year veteran is among the best blockers in the league at his position, so he would be a sound investment for the Saints. Assuming he returns and New Orleans doesn't address the position further in the offseason, Watson should be considered a low-end TE1 in 2016.

Saints | Josh Hill still thought of highly

Tue, 16 Feb 2016 21:08:25 -0800

New Orleans Saints TE Josh Hill is still thought of very highly by team management despite the fact TE Benjamin Watson was brought in and stepped up to fill the void of TE Jimmy Graham, not Hill, in 2015. "Josh Hill is a guy that's been in our building a while now," general manager Mickey Loomis said Tuesday, Feb. 16. "He's got talent, he's been for a couple years, he's kind of been in the background behind (Graham) when he was here and (Benjamin) last year as well."

Fantasy Tip: Hill might eventually get his shot, although the GM said the same is also high on Jack Tabb, and could look outside of the organization for additional help at the position either via the draft or free agency. For now, Hill is only worth investigating for use in the deepest of fantasy formats heading into 2016.

Saints | Won't use franchise tag

Tue, 16 Feb 2016 09:53:44 -0800

The New Orleans Saints will not use their franchise tag this year. They don't have any premiere free agents that will require large deals. TE Benjamin Watson, RB Tim Hightower and S Rafael Bush may be priorities to re-sign. New Orleans may end up spending more to keep restricted free-agent RB Khiry Robinson and OG Tim Lelito.

Saints | Ben Watson wants to return

Mon, 25 Jan 2016 13:08:39 -0800

New Orleans Saints impending free-agent TE Benjamin Watson said he would love to stay in New Orleans, adding that he has had good talks with owner Mickey Loomis and head coach Sean Payton about re-signing.

Fantasy Tip: Watson was a valuable part of the Saints high-flying offense in 2015, posting career-highs in catches (74) and yards (825), and tied his career-high in touchdowns (6). Who knows if he'll be used as much as he was last season, if he does return, but keep him in your TE1 options heading into next season.

Saints | Benjamin Watson to play Sunday

Sun, 27 Dec 2015 07:50:33 -0800

New Orleans Saints TE Benjamin Watson (knee) will play in Week 16's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to multiple sources.

Fantasy Tip: Watson ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) did not practice at all during the week and was listed as questionable on the injury report. He has the seventh-most receiving yards (761) among all NFL tight ends this season and should be viewed as a productive means of cap relief in FantasyScore.

Saints | Benjamin Watson doesn't practice

Fri, 25 Dec 2015 18:52:44 -0800

New Orleans Saints TE Benjamin Watson (knee) didn't practice Friday, Dec. 25, and he is listed as questionable to face the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 16.

Fantasy Tip: Watson ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) doesn't have the highest ceiling, but he does rank seventh among tight ends in receiving yards this year. He is a reliable source of cap relief at FantasyScore.

Saints | Marques Colston, Benjamin Watson out

Wed, 23 Dec 2015 15:41:51 -0800

New Orleans Saints WR Marques Colston (chest) and TE Benjamin Watson (knee) didn't practice Wednesday, Dec. 23. The Saints didn't actually practice Wednesday, so the report is an estimation.

Fantasy Tip: Colston ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) typically sits out Wednesdays. Watson ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) and Colston both have a nice matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars, but it might not matter if Drew Brees (foot) can't play. Without him, both Colston and Watson are weak daily picks.

Saints | Benjamin Watson scores again

Mon, 21 Dec 2015 22:51:38 -0800

New Orleans Saints WR Benjamin Watson posted six receptions for 49 yards and a touchdown in the Week 15 game against the Detroit Lions Monday, Dec. 21. He was targeted 12 times.

Fantasy Tip: Watson has emerged as a dependable Top 10 fantasy option at his position this season, posting four or more receptions in four straight games and eight of the past nine outings.

Saints | Benjamin Watson solid again

Sun, 08 Nov 2015 16:22:49 -0800

New Orleans Saints TE Benjamin Watson had five catches for 60 yards in a 34-28 loss to the Tennessee Titans in Week 9.

Fantasy Tip: Watson ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) has had at least 59 yards in four straight games, and he is averaging 98.3 yards pr game during the stretch. He has emerged as a weekly starting option at FantasyScore.

Saints | Benjamin Watson goes off in win

Sun, 01 Nov 2015 19:16:10 -0800

New Orleans Saints TE Benjamin Watson had team-highs with nine catches and 147 yards with one touchdown in the Week 8 game against the New York Giants. He was targeted 10 times.

Fantasy Tip: Watson ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) did his best Jimmy Graham imitation, and he will likely be a popular pluck off the waiver wire in standard fantasy leagues. For FantasyScore, he could still be a good value going forward, but he faces the NFL's No. 2 ranked pass defense in Week 9 against the Tennessee Titans so be careful.

Saints | Career night for Benjamin Watson

Thu, 15 Oct 2015 20:53:14 -0700

New Orleans Saints TE Benjamin Watson had 10 catches for a career-high 127 yards and a touchdown in a 31-21 win over the Atlanta Falcons in Week 6.

Fantasy Tip: Watson ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) came into the game with 15 catches for 159 yards in the first five games combined, so there is no reason to expect him to have a repeat performance any time soon.

Sun, 04 Oct 2015 22:08:48 -0700

New Orleans Saints TE Josh Hill had two receptions for 11 yards and a touchdown in the Week 4 game against the Dallas Cowboys. Fellow TE Benjamin Watson had three grabs for 30 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Hill ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is still not worth using in FantasyScore despite the touchdown. The veteran Watson ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is slightly better for fantasy players, but his ceiling is also limited.

Saints | Benjamin Watson to start?

Fri, 24 Jul 2015 15:15:46 -0700

New Orleans Saints TE Benjamin Watson is slated to start at tight end over TE Josh Hill, according to Mike Triplett of ESPN.com.

Fantasy Tip: Watson will still split time with Hill, but he could begin the season as starter primarily because of his experience and blocking abilities. He's also not a bad pass-catcher. However, because this could easily turn into a committee, neither should be considered starting fantasy tight ends.

Saints | New Orleans TE committee likely

Mon, 20 Jul 2015 05:47:58 -0700

New Orleans Saints TE Josh Hill and TE Benjamin Watson will likely be used in a committee to supplement the team's offense after TE Jimmy Graham was traded.

Fantasy Tip: Hill has been pegged as a breakout candidate by some, but this limits that outlook a bit. Hill and Watson are TE2 options in fantasy.

Saints | Josh Hill projected to start for Saints

Wed, 20 May 2015 12:21:24 -0700

New Orleans Saints TE Josh Hill is slated as the starting tight end this season with TE Jimmy Graham now in Seattle. TE Benjamin Watson could give Hill a run for his money, however.

Fantasy Tip: Hill only caught 14 passes in 2014, but five of those were for touchdowns. He should be a mainstay in the Saints' red zone offense even if he doesn't produce a ton between the 20s. Even if he does start, he's still in TE2 territory.

Saints | Jimmy Graham to be game-time decision

Fri, 17 Oct 2014 13:16:45 -0700

Updating a previous report, New Orleans Saints TE Jimmy Graham (shoulder) said he won't know until just before kickoff Sunday, Oct. 19, if he'll play in Week 7 against the Detroit Lions. "I think (coach) Sean (Payton) might try to see how I'm doing on Sunday and maybe work me before the game to see where I'm at," Graham, who was limited and listed as questionable for Sunday, said. "As of right now I don't know." Head coach Sean Payton would not discuss whether Graham could be limited if he plays Sunday. TEs Benjamin Watson and Josh Hill will likely see an increase in snaps if Graham doesn't play.

Fantasy Tip: Even if Graham plays, he's likely to be less than 100 percent, which would make paying $7,900 (15.8% of cap) a pretty big risk at FantasyScore. Hill is the better fantasy bet if Graham doesn't play, and he's very cheap if you're going that route at tight end.
