White Sox | Alex Avila not starting

Sat, 21 May 2016 09:51:22 -0700

Chicago White Sox C Alex Avila is not in the starting lineup against Kansas City Royals SP Danny Duffy Saturday, May 21. C Dioner Navarro will start at catcher and is batting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Navarro has five hits in his last four games and can be a starting option in two-catcher leagues as well as some daily fantasy leagues.

White Sox | Alex Avila back from DL

Mon, 09 May 2016 12:11:03 -0700

Chicago White Sox C Alex Avila (hamstring) was activated from the 15-day disabled list and is hitting eighth against Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis Monday, May 9. C Dioner Navarro will start on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: Navarro may continue to see more starts behind the plate, but Avila's return cuts into his time and limits his fantasy value. Both backstops are more of No. 2 catching options in AL-only or two-catcher setups.

White Sox | Trio of Pale Hose reach the seats

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 22:49:32 -0700

Chicago White Sox OF Adam Eaton, OF Avisail Garcia and C Dioner Navarro each had two hits, a home run and two RBIs Tuesday, April 26, against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Fantasy Tip: Eaton is a must-start fantasy option across the board, while Garcia has struggled and is only worth using in deeper AL-only fantasy formats right now. Navarro is worth using in AL-only fantasy and DFS play since he is seeing regular at-bats with Alex Avila on the 15-day disabled list.

White Sox | Dioner Navarro not in the lineup

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 12:25:32 -0700

Chicago White Sox C Dioner Navarro is not in the starting lineup against Toronto Blue Jays SP Marcus Stroman Monday, April 25. C Kevan Smith will start at catcher and is batting ninth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Smith will be playing in his first game of the season after recently being recalled from the minor leagues and should be avoided in all leagues for the time being.

White Sox | Three CWS regulars sitting Sunday

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 09:35:21 -0700

Chicago White Sox OF Melky Cabrera, C Alex Avila and SS Jimmy Rollins are out of the starting lineup against the Tampa Bay Rays Sunday, April 17. OF Jerry Sands will bat fifth and serve as the designated hitter, C Dioner Navarro will bat eighth and SS Tyler Saladino will bat ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Saladino and Sands are a combined 5-for-14 at the dish with one home run and four RBI, making them worthy of consideration as inexpensive fliers for daily games. Navarro is 1-for-16 and should be avoided in all formats during this ice-cold stretch.

White Sox | Alex Avila out of lineup Sunday

Sun, 10 Apr 2016 09:29:40 -0700

Chicago White Sox C Alex Avila is not in the starting lineup against Cleveland Indians SP Josh Tomlin Sunday, April 10. C Dioner Navarro will start behind the plate and bat eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Navarro is 1-for-8 through his first two games of the regular season but usually performs better at the plate if he receives consistent playing time. The 32-year-old should be viewed as a potential flier for daily fantasy contests.

White Sox | Dioner Navarro catching Monday

Mon, 04 Apr 2016 15:57:04 -0700

Updating a previous report, Chicago White Sox C Dioner Navarro is catching over C Alex Avila against Oakland Athletics C Rich Hill on opening day Monday, April 4.

Fantasy Tip: Avila was initially slated to start against right-hander Sonny Gray, but he was scratched due to food poisoning in favor of the lefty Hill. Navarro has a little pop in his bat for a catcher but doesn't stick out in any one category. He'll be a sleeper option at catcher in daily formats Monday.

White Sox | John Danks works six scoreless

Wed, 23 Mar 2016 23:04:19 -0700

Chicago White Sox SP John Danks scattered seven hits with a walk over six scoreless innings in a Cactus League spring start Wednesday, March 23, against the San Diego Padres and he finished with six strikeouts. C Dioner Navarro, a career .423 hitter against Danks, said he noticed Danks was tipping his pitches. The two worked together and Danks has posted two consecutive scoreless outings. "He told me exactly what I was doing. We fixed it and it hasn't been an issue since," Danks said.

Fantasy Tip: Danks appears to be ready for the regular season, and he is worth adding as a back-end fantasy rotation option in AL-only leagues.

White Sox | Dioner Navarro may be used as DH

Tue, 22 Mar 2016 13:32:20 -0700

Chicago White Sox C Dioner Navarro could be used as designated hitter, according to manager Robin Ventura.

Fantasy Tip: The team has more talent at catcher than you might think. Brett Lawrie and Tyler Saladino can catch if needed, freeing Navarro up for at-bats as a DH. Navarro had just five homers and a .248 average last season, but he was primarily a backup to Russell Martin. In a bigger role Navarro could have better results.

White Sox | Dioner Navarro signs with Chicago

Thu, 03 Dec 2015 08:58:08 -0800

Free-agent C Dioner Navarro (Blue Jays) signed a one-year deal with the Chicago White Sox Thursday, Dec. 3, according to sources. Navarro played in just 54 games for the Toronto Blue Jays last year as the backup to C Russell Martin.

Fantasy Tip: Navarro had a .246 average and five home runs in a backup role last year. He'll be expected to split time with Alex Avila in his new home, with Navarro likely serving in more of the backup role. There's not much fantasy value to be had here except for in deep leagues that start two catchers.
