NFL | Michael Vick not retired

Mon, 13 Jun 2016 15:20:53 -0700

Free-agent QB Michael Vick (Steelers) said he has not retired and would love to play in 2016. Vick said he will be selective about the offer he accepts this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Vick could find a backup job if a team suffers an injury but likely will not start any games in 2016. Owners in all leagues should avoid Vick during their drafts.

Steelers | Ben Roethlisberger serving as backup

Sun, 15 Nov 2015 08:41:15 -0800

Updating previous reports, Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (foot) is serving as the backup to QB Landry Jones for Week 10's game against the Cleveland Browns. QB Michael Vick is inactive.

Fantasy Tip: It's somewhat surprising to see Roethlisberger ($8,100, 16.2% of cap) active, with the Steelers having a bye next week. Jones ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) warrants consideration as a FantasyScore sleeper pick against the Browns.

Steelers | Landry Jones starting Sunday

Fri, 13 Nov 2015 13:34:11 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Landry Jones will start against the Cleveland Browns in Week 10, according to QB Michael Vick. Vick also said he'll be Jones' backup Sunday, Nov. 15. QB Ben Roethlisberger (foot) practiced in limited fashion Friday, Nov. 13, and is listed as questionable for Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: This was expected all along with Big Ben dealing with a sprained foot and the Steelers having a bye next week. Jones ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) has done well while replacing the injured Roethlisberger this year and deserves consideration as a deep sleeper on FantasyScore against the lowly Browns.

Steelers | Michael Vick could be available

Tue, 27 Oct 2015 10:10:22 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Michael Vick (hamstring) has a chance to be available in Week 8 against the Cincinnati Bengals, according to head coach Mike Tomlin. However, QB Landry Jones is listed as the No. 2 quarterback behind QB Ben Roethlisberger on the depth chart.

Fantasy Tip: Right now, Big Ben is on track to make his return and start against the Bengals. It's highly unlikely that Vick ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) sees any playing time in this one unless an injury occurs. Avoid him everywhere.

Steelers | Michael Vick misses practice

Thu, 22 Oct 2015 13:08:49 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Michael Vick (hamstring) did not participate in practice Thursday, Oct. 22.

Fantasy Tip: Vick ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) likely will be ruled out for the Week 7 game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Landry Jones ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) is the leading candidate to start and could be an option in fantasy league but is a risky player because of his lack of experience.

Steelers | No practice for Michael Vick

Wed, 21 Oct 2015 15:10:32 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Michael Vick (hamstring) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 21.

Fantasy Tip: Vick ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) will probably be sidelined this week, making Landry Jones ($4,600, 9.2%) the likely starter. Jones has a really good matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs. He's worth starting on FantasyScore, especially since he costs so little.

Steelers | Landry Jones expected to start

Tue, 20 Oct 2015 10:52:09 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Landry Jones is being prepared as the starter in advance of Week 7 against the Kansas City Chiefs because "he's the one that's healthy," according to head coach Mike Tomlin. QBs Ben Roethlisberger (knee) and Michael Vick (hamstring) will have their progress monitored to determine their availability in practice or games. Jones threw for 168 yards and two touchdowns in relief of an injured Vick in Week 6 against the Arizona Cardinals.

Fantasy Tip: The Chiefs remain one of the best matchups for quarterbacks while giving up the third-most fantasy points per game (24.7) to the position, but Jones ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) remains more of a deep sleeper on FantasyScore.

Steelers | Michael Vick has hamstring tear

Mon, 19 Oct 2015 11:16:59 -0700

Updating a previous report, Pittsburgh Steelers QB Michael Vick (hamstring) has a small tear in his hamstring and could be at least a week away from returning.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like Landry Jones could be starting in Week 7 if Ben Roethlisberger is still unable to return. The Steelers' quarterback situation will need to be monitored as the week progresses. Whoever starts will have a good matchup against a Kansas City Chiefs defense that has given up the second-most passing touchdowns in the NFL (14).

Steelers | Michael Vick may have hamstring injury

Sun, 18 Oct 2015 12:04:45 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Michael Vick (hamstring) is being evaluated for a possible right hamstring injury during Week 6's game against the Arizona Cardinals. He is questionable to return.

Fantasy Tip: Vick ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) was just 3-for-8 for six passing yards before being removed. He was replaced by Landry Jones ($4,500, 9.0% of cap), who threw an eight-yard touchdown on his second pass of the game. Check back for more updates on Vick's status.

Steelers | Michael Vick expected to return

Sun, 18 Oct 2015 11:21:32 -0700

Updating a previous report, Pittsburgh Steelers QB Michael Vick (eye) left the team's Week 6 game because of dirt in his eye and is considered probable to return.

Fantasy Tip: It appears that Vick is not dealing with any serious injury and should return to the game. Vick has not done much since taking over the starting job and should be avoided by owners.

Steelers | Michael Vick leaves game

Sun, 18 Oct 2015 11:08:45 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Michael Vick (head) left the game early in Week 6 because of a possible head injury. Vick took a knee to the head during a play.

Fantasy Tip: Vick was playing in place of an injured Ben Roethlisberger, but Landry Jones will take over the starting job if Vick is not able to return. Jones should not be a starting option in any fantasy league.

Steelers | Antonio Brown wants more looks

Thu, 15 Oct 2015 09:56:45 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown wants QB Michael Vick to trust him more and take more downfield shots through the air. Brown has just nine catches for 87 yards and no touchdowns in the two games that Vick has taken over for QB Ben Roethlisberger (knee). "He's got to take some shots," Brown said. "I told him, trust me a little bit. Let me make some plays. Let's get a victory. It doesn't have to be that hard." Vick is allowed to call audibles at the line of scrimmage but hasn't done it much because he's trying to gain a "complete understanding" of the offense. Brown has been targeted 15 times in the last two games by Vick, compared to 35 targets in the first three weeks of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Brown ($8,600, 17.2% of cap) and the Steelers face a very good and aggressive defense in the Arizona Cardinals in Week 6, and Brown will likely be shadowed by one of the best shutdown corners in the league in Patrick Peterson. That's not a recipe to pay up for on FantasyScore.

Steelers | Michael Vick struggles in win

Mon, 12 Oct 2015 22:12:55 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Michael Vick completed 13 of his 26 pass attempts for 203 yards, one touchdowns and one interception in the Week 5 win against the San Diego Chargers Monday, Oct. 12. He also had one run for 24 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Vick ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) has really struggled in the Pittsburgh offense, and a bulk of his production came on one 72-yard pass play when Markus Wheaton was wide open. Avoid Vick in FantasyScore going forward.

Steelers | Michael Vick's timing off in offense

Wed, 07 Oct 2015 10:27:59 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown said the timing with QB Michael Vick was off last week as he filled in for QB Ben Roethlisberger (knee). "I think (Mike Vick's passes) just come out a little bit later than Ben's," Brown said. "I don't think Mike Vick has yet adjusted to the timing of how we run things. His balls come out later in the routes, at the top of your route. You just have to get the timing down and make sure we're on the same page."

Fantasy Tip: It was evident in last Thursday's game that Vick ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) wasn't on the same page as his receivers, and you have to downgrade all of the players in the aerial game for Pittsburgh with Big Ben out. Brown ($8,700, 17.4% of cap) remains a must-start in traditional fantasy leagues, but you should certainly be hesitant to pay up for him on FantasyScore as long as Vick is running the show.

Steelers | Michael Vick doesn't impress

Thu, 01 Oct 2015 20:46:18 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Michael Vick only had 124 yards passing on 24 tries for a 4.4 average in the Week 4 loss to the Baltimore Ravens Thursday, Oct. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Vick ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) is a shell of his former self, and he loses most of his fantasy appeal because he isn't as much of a threat to run anymore. He's strictly a deep sleeper at QB on FantasyScore in the right matchup with Ben Roethlisberger (knee) out.

Steelers | Antonio Brown could suffer with new QB

Thu, 01 Oct 2015 10:12:16 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown's production could suffer with QB Ben Roethlisberger (knee) out four to six weeks. Brown credits astounding chemistry he has with Roethlisberger on and off the field to their success. Roethlisberger throws to Brown about 30% of the time on broken plays, and QB Michael Vick has had accuracy issues.

Fantasy Tip: Brown's ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) value could suffer a brownout, but not a complete blackout. He's talented enough to tally numbers with a toddler throwing to him. However, at this price tag, we understand second-guessing against the Baltimore Ravens on FantasyScore this week.

Steelers | PIT HC confident in Michael Vick

Mon, 28 Sep 2015 14:15:27 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Michael Vick still has plenty of playing time left in his career, according to head coach Mike Tomlin. Vick will be the Steelers' starting quarterback for several weeks with QB Ben Roethlisberger (knee) sidelined. Vick completed five of six passes for 38 yards after Roethlisberger exited in Week 3. That being said, Pittsburgh will play more conservatively with Vick. Tomlin said the Steelers will work in Vick's comfort zone and try to bring the game to him.

Fantasy Tip: Vick is certainly an intriguing player in the realm of fantasy football. He's got a strong arm and is still a capable runner. He could be a sneaky play on FantasyScore for Week 4.

Steelers | Michael Vick in line to start

Sun, 27 Sep 2015 15:17:16 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Michael Vick is set to step into the starting lineup in Week 4 against the Baltimore Ravens with QB Ben Roethlisberger (knee) expected to miss at least four weeks due to a knee injury.

Fantasy Tip: Vick ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) isn't a recommended FantasyScore option against the Ravens, even though they were picked apart in Week 3. Vick will have a short week with a Thursday kick, and it's best to avoid him until he has a full week to get acclimated to the starting role in Pittsburgh.

Sat, 29 Aug 2015 12:55:04 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QBs Michael Vick and Landry Jones both took second-team snaps during warmups Saturday, Aug. 29.

Fantasy Tip: As long as Ben Roethlisberger is healthy, neither quarterback will have any fantasy value.

Sat, 29 Aug 2015 10:54:33 -0700

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Michael Vick is expected to play Saturday, Aug. 29, against the Buffalo Bills. Vick was signed just four days ago.

Updating a previous report, free-agent QB Michael Vick (Jets) signed a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers Tuesday, Aug. 25. Financial terms were not disclosed. QB Bruce Gradkowski (finger) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list.

Fantasy Tip: This is Ben Roethlisberger's offense, there's no questioning that. If Roethlisberger is injured at some point, however, Vick could make for a nice fill-in if he is able to pass Landry Jones on the depth chart.

NFL | Michael Vick selling himself to GMs

Tue, 16 Jun 2015 18:28:33 -0700

Free-agent QB Michael Vick remains without a job, but he tried selling himself to general managers Tuesday, June 16. "(I'm) a proven winner. I think that I've done a lot throughout the course of my career," Vick began. "I've proved that I can win games and play with some consistency and be a leader. I think those are the qualities that you want in a quarterback," Vick said. When asked if has thought about this being the end of his career, Vick was in denial, "Going through times like this you kind of think about it," he said. "I know I have been playing a long time. It's been 13 years. I know I still have a lot of football left in me. You never want to think of it in that regard," said Vick.

Fantasy Tip: Vick is likely a little too optimistic on what he has to offer NFL teams, but in the right situation and the best-case scenario, Vick could put together one good week on FantasyScore. Vick will need to get a job and prove he's worthy before any owners pay attention to him.
