Dodgers | Scott Kazmir extends unbeaten streak

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 20:42:00 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Scott Kazmir allowed one run and four hits over seven innings in a victory Tuesday, July 19, against the Washington Nationals. He also struck out eight batters, running his record to 8-3. He extended his unbeaten streak to 12 starts, going 6-0 over the span.

Fantasy Tip: Kazmir has re-emerged as a must-start fantasy option over the past two months and he is a solid DFS value at a mid-tier price tag.

Nationals | Anthony Rendon scratched Tuesday

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 13:06:32 -0700

Washington Nationals 3B Anthony Rendon (flu) is out of the lineup again Tuesday, July 19, due to the flu. 2B Daniel Murphy will start at third base and SS Trea Turner will fill in for Murphy at second against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Scott Kazmir.

Fantasy Tip: This is the second straight game Rendon has missed, so stay tuned and see how much more time Rendon will be out. This should not be a long-lasting ailment requiring time on the disabled list. Murphy has hits in each of his last five games, and assuming he stays healthy Murphy's fantasy value will be high. As for Turner, he hasn't seen enough steady action to recommend putting him in your lineup.

Dodgers | LAD set post-break rotation

Sun, 10 Jul 2016 20:03:00 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Bud Norris, SP Brandon McCarthy and SP Kenta Maeda will start the first three games after the All-Star break against the Arizona Diamondbacks, and SP Scott Kazmir and SP Hyun-Jin Ryu will start the next two games against the Washington Nationals.

Fantasy Tip: Clayton Kershaw is expected to be back soon, but the Dodgers will make at least one turn through the rotation without their ace.

Dodgers | Scott Kazmir labors in short outing

Fri, 08 Jul 2016 23:59:14 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Scott Kazmir allowed three runs on six hits in three innings against the San Diego Padres on Friday, July 8. He walked three and struck out five.

Fantasy Tip: Kazmir needed 85 pitches to get through three innings and simply never found his comfort zone with 37 balls and 48 strikes. It was the lefty's shortest outing of the season and a disappointing encore after fanning 10 in six shutout innings his last time out. Still, Kazmir hasn't lost since May 9 and remains a usable starter in standard leagues.

Dodgers | Scott Kazmir sits down 10 via punchout

Sun, 03 Jul 2016 05:07:10 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Scott Kazmir pitched six scoreless innings with just three hits allowed and 10 strikeouts during the Dodgers' 6-1 win over the Colorado Rockies Saturday, July 2.

Fantasy Tip: Kazmir is beginning to round into form with a 3.35 ERA and 53 strikeouts through 43 innings over his past eight starts, which makes him a viable mid-rotation arm for your virtual staff going forward. Owners should expect some peaks and valleys down the stretch from the veteran, though.

Dodgers | Scott Kazmir records sixth win

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 15:38:13 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Scott Kazmir improved his record to 6-3 by defeating the Pittsburgh Pirates in his start Monday, June 27. The left-hander labored through five innings, allowing four runs on four hits and four walks. He also registered four strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Kazmir has now won four straight decisions, though he hasn't exactly been doing it in the prettiest fashion, with several unspectacular outings similar to this one over that stretch. Even so, he can still be a reliable, steady arm for deep leagues, especially while pitching for a playoff contender. He's also been a nice source for K's, with 91 strikeouts in 88 2/3 total innings.

Dodgers | Scott Kazmir posts quality start

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 23:43:04 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Scott Kazmir allowed two earned runs, eight hits and a walk with four strikeouts over six innings in a no-decision Tuesday, June 21, against the Washington Nationals. He threw 65 of his 97 pitches for strikes in the quality start.

Fantasy Tip: Kazmir recorded his first quality start in four outings dating back to May 31. With a 4.52 ERA and 1.30 WHIP, he is mainly an NL-only fantasy option only worth using in deeper mixed formats.

Dodgers | Scott Kazmir expects to start Saturday

Mon, 06 Jun 2016 16:16:54 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Scott Kazmir (calf) is expecting to make his next scheduled start Saturday, June 11, after he dealt with a leg cramp in his last start.

Fantasy Tip: Kazmir allowed three earned runs in five innings to the Braves in his last start, but he had just one earned run allowed in his previous two starts and has been an effective matchup play for those in deeper leagues in 2016. Kazmir will face the Giants Saturday, and San Fran leads the NL with 84 runs scored against lefties and a .754 OPS. That means the lefty will come with plenty of risk this weekend.

Dodgers | Scott Kazmir exits early

Sun, 05 Jun 2016 20:05:42 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Scott Kazmir (quadriceps) exited his start against the Atlanta Braves early because of tightness in his left quadriceps Sunday, June 5. He allowed three runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out five over five innings and earned the win.

Fantasy Tip: Kazmir has been pitching well of late, and assuming the injury doesn't turn out to be serious, he has some upside in deeper mixed leagues.

Dodgers | Scott Kazmir brilliant in no-decision

Tue, 31 May 2016 22:46:41 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Scott Kazmir earned a no-decision in his start Tuesday, May 31, opposite the Chicago Cubs, but certainly deserved better based on his performance. He recorded six shutout innings, yielding only one hit and one walk. He also struck out seven.

Fantasy Tip: Kazmir was out to a sluggish start in his first year with the Dodgers, but now he's finally starting to return to form, as he's been sensational in his last two starts. In fact, Kazmir has allowed just a single run in 12 innings over that span, while accumulating 19 strikeouts as well. Considering the team he plays for, the veteran southpaw could start piling up wins if he can sustain his smooth pitching as of late.
