Red Sox | Hanley Ramirez slumping in May

Wed, 27 May 2015 15:36:28 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Hanley Ramirez went 0-for-3 Wednesday, May 27, and he's now 17-for-81 (.210) with a .511 OPS, no home runs and one RBI in the month of May as the team's cleanup hitter. He has been hitting the ball hard right to opponents, but he's also not pulling the ball to left field of late. Ramirez says that pitchers have been busting him inside.

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) has seen his average fall to .256 (41-for-160) on the season after he hit 10 home runs in April. Until he breaks out of his funk at the plate, you should avoid using him in daily games.

Red Sox | David Ortiz dropped in order

Tue, 26 May 2015 13:58:49 -0700

Boston Red Sox DH David Ortiz, who has a slash line of .207/.286/.329 in May, was dropped to fifth in the batting order Tuesday, May 26. OF Hanley Ramirez, who has a slash line of .230/.278/.270 in May, will move up to cleanup.

Fantasy Tip: It won't change Ortiz's ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) drastically, but it's another reminder that he's hitting just .221 (34-for-154) with six home runs and 18 RBI on the season. He remains a weaker option at FantasyScore until we see him break out of his funk.

Red Sox | Hanley Ramirez on RBI dry spell

Sun, 24 May 2015 14:26:36 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Hanley Ramirez is the only player in Major League Baseball this month to have over 60 at-bats without a run batted in.

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) does have a .263 batting average, but his fantasy value is somewhat hampered because of his inability to drive in runners. Downgrade your expectations with Ramirez until he shakes this mini-slump.

Red Sox | Hanley Ramirez undergoes X-rays

Sat, 23 May 2015 07:15:22 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Hanley Ramirez (hand) underwent X-rays on his hand after he was hit by a pitch Friday, May 22. Ramirez's X-rays were negative, and he could play again when the soreness goes away.

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) could miss a few games because of the injury, but it does not appear to be a serious injury. Ramirez only has four hits in his last seven games but could still be a solid option on FantasyScore when healthy.

Red Sox | Hanley Ramirez has cooled off

Mon, 18 May 2015 14:44:48 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Hanley Ramirez is in a 1-for-13 slide that has seen his OPS drop from .949 to .816 on the season. He still leads the team in home runs by five with 10, but he hasn't gone deep since April 29.

Fantasy Tip: Perhaps Ramirez's ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) shoulder injury recently has contributed to his lack of power. It's worth watching. His average has dropped to .264 (34-for-129) on the year, but he's been one of the more productive hitters in a weak-hitting lineup this year. He's hitting much better against lefties (.324 with four home runs) than against righties (.242 with six home runs), though.

Red Sox | Boston terrible against southpaws

Wed, 13 May 2015 11:36:09 -0700

The Boston Red Sox are hitting a meager .188 against left-handed pitchers this year, which is dead last in all of baseball, and they have a .638 OPS (ranked 26th) against lefties. OF Hanley Ramirez is about the only hitter on the team succeeded against lefties, going 8-for-24 (.333) with four home runs. 1B Mike Napoli is .240 against lefties this year, while SS Xander Bogaerts is 5-for-25 with zero RBI. DH David Ortiz has five hits in 34 at-bats, and 3B Pablo Sandoval is just 2-for-34 batting from the right side as a switch hitter. The Red Sox will face three left-handed pitchers when they face off against the Seattle Mariners this weekend.

Fantasy Tip: You'll obviously want to avoid most Red Sox players when they face left-handed hurlers, at least for the foreseeable future. Also, all lefty pitchers should at least be considered at FantasyScore when facing Boston, beginning with Roenis Elias ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) as a sleeper pick tomorrow.

Red Sox | Hanley Ramirez hitless in return

Sat, 09 May 2015 18:43:18 -0700

Boston Red Sox SS Hanley Ramirez (shoulder) returned from a three-game absence and finished 0-for-4 with a strikeout in a 7-1 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays Saturday, May 9, and manager John Farrell said Ramirez is playing through some pain.

Fantasy Tip: With Ramirez ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) dealing with some pain in his shoulder still, it is a good idea to avoid him at FantasyScore until he picks up the pace at the plate.

Red Sox | Hanley Ramirez to play Saturday

Sat, 09 May 2015 09:21:42 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Hanley Ramirez (shoulder) is in the starting lineup Saturday, May 9.

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) missed the previous three games because of his shoulder injury but is back in the lineup. Ramirez is a risky option on FantasyScore because of his shoulder, and owners may want to see him play in a game or two before using him.

Red Sox | Hanley Ramirez takes swings

Fri, 08 May 2015 14:52:58 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Hanley Ramirez (shoulder) took dry swings Friday, May 8, and he may hit on the field Saturday, May 9, according to manager John Farrell. Farrell noted a stint on the disabled list still looks unlikely.

Fantasy Tip: Allen Craig ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) has received the majority of starts with Ramirez out, and Craig has fleeting value in deep seasonal formats and FantasyScore contests. Continue to check back for updates on Ramirez's status and a return timetable.

Red Sox | No timetable for Hanley Ramirez

Wed, 06 May 2015 15:30:06 -0700

Boston Red Sox OF Hanley Ramirez (shoulder) could take dry swings as early as Thursday, May 7, but there is no timetable for his return to the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez could eventually require a DL stint if he doesn't heal quickly enough. Allen Craig ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) is expected to see the majority of starts in left while Ramirez is sidelined. Craig becomes a very cheap value play at FantasyScore, and he's intriguing against Tampa Bay Rays starter Alex Colome tonight.
