The Houston Astros senior director of social media Alyson Footer reports the Astros optioned IF Edwin Maysonet and RP Wilton Lopez to the minors. They also reassigned RP Gary Majewski, RP Casey Daigle, C Jason Castro, P Gustavo Chacin, IF Drew Meyer, C Kevin Cash and 1B Chris Shelton to minor league camp.

T.R. Sullivan, of Texas.Rangers.MLB.com, reports Texas Rangers IF Drew Meyer has cleared waivers and been outrighted to Triple-A Oklahoma Monday, Jan. 22. He has also been invited to major league spring training. Meyer appeared in five games for the Rangers last season, hitting .214 (3-for-14). He was the team's No. 1 pick in the 2002 First-Year Player Draft.

Whoever is called up would likely be sent down again Saturday, June 24, because the Rangers would need to call up a pitcher to start in Loe's place.

DeRosa will replace infielders D'Angelo Jimenez and Drew Meyer, who have been filling at second base while 2B Ian Kinsler (thumb) and him were on the disabled list.
