San Francisco Giants SP Matt Cain (elbow) acknowledged feeling elbow discomfort after completing five innings of a minor league game Tuesday, March 24. "It's been a little sore after some of these starts, and even during the starts, which is normal," Cain said. "That's part of the rehab process." Cain hasn't suffered any setbacks, but he did mention he might not throw a side session in between his starts this season. Cain's fastball was mostly 90-91 mph and his slider had plenty of movement.
Fantasy Tip: Cain was once one of the better fantasy pitchers in the game, but he wasn't his typically excellent self in 2013 or 2014. Cain is a late-round target with some upside, but it's unwise to expect him to rebound to his pre-2013 form.

San Francisco Giants SP Matt Cain (elbow) retired all six hitters he faced over two innings Monday, March 9, for the first game action since July 9 of last season. Cain threw 13 strikes and seven ball while recording three fly balls and three groundouts.
Fantasy Tip: It's a good first start for Cain this spring after coming back from elbow and ankle surgeries. He'll be on injury watch for much of camp, which means he'll come cheaply in fantasy baseball drafts in 2015 in the late rounds of standard leagues. Cain could be an excellent value pick if he bounces back to form and stays healthy in SF.

San Francisco Giants SP Matt Cain (elbow) will pitch in the first turn through the rotation during spring training games, according to manager Bruce Bochy.
Fantasy Tip: Cain struggled in 2014 but is trying to work his way back from some injuries and be ready for the start of the regular season. Owners should monitor his performance during the spring training, but he could be a consideration in the later rounds of mixed league drafts if he is healthy.

San Francisco Giants SP Matt Cain (elbow) threw another productive bullpen session Monday, Feb. 23, and is encouraged about his recovery from right elbow surgery. He tossed 30 pitches Monday and is throwing all of his pitches. "Letting it go," Cain said. "Today was 100%. Everything felt good. We're taking steps in the right way. The arm's feeling good and everything is going the right way. Now it's just getting the repetitions, getting on the mound a lot." C Buster Posey has also been impressed with how Cain has looked this spring.
Fantasy Tip: Cain is also recovering from an ankle surgery, and he'll be on injury watch this spring training. If he continues his optimistic road to recovery, he'll be an injury discount in the late rounds of standard 12-team mixed leagues to round out your rotation.
