Rays | Rene Rivera catching Saturday

Sat, 03 Oct 2015 11:53:25 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C Rene Rivera will bat ninth against Toronto Blue Jays SP Marco Estrada Saturday, Oct. 3.

Fantasy Tip: Rivera ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) is batting just .162 with two RBIs in 74 at-bats since the All-Star break and is 4-for-38 against Toronto this season. FantasyScore owners should avoid using him Saturday.

Rays | J.P. Arencibia sitting out series finale

Wed, 16 Sep 2015 13:16:36 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C J.P. Arencibia is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, Sept. 16. C Rene Rivera is starting behind the plate and batting ninth against New York Yankees SP Luis Severino Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Arencibia ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) has exploded onto the scene in September for the Rays. He has a 1.142 OPS with five home runs and 15 RBI through 46 plate appearances. Still, he is nothing more than a flier for seasonal players, albeit one that could pay off down the stretch in the power categories. Rivera ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) has an active 4-for-29 stretch and is nothing more than a desperation source of cap relief for FantasyScore players Wednesday.

Sun, 06 Sep 2015 07:07:54 -0700

Fantasy Tip: Rivera ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) has been out of the lineup for the last several games but has received at-bats during those games. He is hitting .181 this season and is not a great option for owners on FantasyScore.

Rays | Rene Rivera will not start

Sat, 05 Sep 2015 07:51:53 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C Rene Rivera is not in the starting lineup against New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi Saturday, Sept. 5. C Luke Maile will start at catcher and is batting ninth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Rivera ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) has not been in the lineup for a few games but could return soon. Maile was a September call up and does not have much fantasy value at this point.

Rays | Rene Rivera out of the lineup

Thu, 27 Aug 2015 14:39:11 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C Rene Rivera is not in the starting lineup against Minnesota Twins SP Tommy Milone Thursday, Aug. 27. C J.P. Arencibia will start at catcher and is batting ninth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Rivera ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) likely is receiving a day off and should return soon. Arencibia recently joined the team but should not be a fantasy option at this time.

Rays | Rene Rivera grabs start vs. Twins

Wed, 26 Aug 2015 13:46:26 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C Rene Rivera is starting behind the plate and batting ninth against Minnesota Twins SP Tyler Duffey Wednesday, Aug. 26.

Fantasy Tip: With Curt Casali ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) on the disabled list, Rivera ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) and J.P. Arencibia will likely split starts behind the plate. FantasyScore players could take a speculative swing with Rivera Wednesday, but he is truly nothing more than a dice roll due to his .510 OPS over 289 at-bats this year. Arencibia owns power potential, but he also comes with a .231 on-base percentage over his past 201 games in the majors. Arencibia is a desperation add in AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues, if your hunting for home runs.

Rays | Rene Rivera catching Sunday

Sun, 23 Aug 2015 12:53:54 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C Rene Rivera will bat ninth against Oakland Athletics SP Kendall Graveman Sunday, Aug. 23. C Curt Casali will receive a scheduled day off.

Fantasy Tip: Rivera ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) is 8-for-23 (.348) during the month of August with a double and an RBI, and merits consideration for FantasyScore lineups that need a productive catcher at a low cost.

Rays | Curt Casali catching Saturday

Sat, 25 Jul 2015 12:10:48 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C Curt Casali will bat ninth against Baltimore Orioles SP Miguel Gonzalez Saturday, July 25. C Rene Rivera is getting the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Casali ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is 3-for-19 this month with a home run and three RBIs and is only hitting .125 in 16 at-bats at Tropicana Field. Unless you desperately need FantasyScore salary cap relief, avoid using him.

Rays | Rene Rivera will not start

Sat, 18 Jul 2015 07:40:25 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C Rene Rivera is not in the starting lineup against Toronto Blue Jays SP R.A. Dickey Saturday, July 18. C Curt Casali will start at catcher and is batting ninth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Rivera ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) probably is receiving a day off and will be back in the lineup in the next game or two. Casali ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has not done a lot at the plate in his limited playing time this season and is not a great option on FantasyScore.

Rays | Rene Rivera sitting out vs. Astros

Sun, 12 Jul 2015 08:32:50 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C Rene Rivera is not in the starting lineup Sunday, July 12. C Curt Casali is starting behind the plate and batting ninth against Houston Astros SP Lance McCullers Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Rivera ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) enters the All-Star break with three runs, a home run run, seven RBI and a .421/.429/.632 slash line over his past six games. It is the best stretch of his otherwise awful season. Perhaps, he'll have a better second half, but Rivera shouldn't be viewed as anything more than a low-end catcher in AL-only, cavernous mixed and two-catcher formats. Casali ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) should be viewed as a desperation source of cap relief by FantasyScore players Sunday, as has just 116 career plate appearances and a .561 OPS to show for them.
