Carolina Panthers WR Corey Brown dropped four passes during the preseason game against the New England Patriots Friday, Aug. 28. Three drops were on the same drive, which included a would-be touchdown on a deep ball and an end-zone target. Head coach Ron Rivera said Brown needed to stop putting pressure on himself to replace WR Kelvin Benjamin (knee) after the game. "To replace Benjamin is going to be a unit job, not a one-man job," Rivera added.
Fantasy Tip: Brown also dropped two passes last week, so while there may be a clear opportunity for the sophomore, he isn't doing his part to grab the ball and run with it. Brown is nothing more than a late-round flier in most leagues. Rookie Devin Funchess (hamstring) is looking more and more like the receiver to target from Carolina, but he will likely be inconsistent from week to week, especially with Rivera continuing to preach the group effort to replace Benjamin's targets and production from last season.

Fantasy Tip: Cotchery isn't worth drafting in 2015, but with Kelvin Benjamin out for the year, he is worth keeping an eye on in case rookie Devin Funchess struggles out of the gate.

Fantasy Tip: The team is taking things slow with Funchess to make sure he is ready for the start of the regular season. Funchess could be the team's No. 1 wide receiver this season since Kelvin Benjamin is out and could be a late-round option in leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Funchess is in the WR3-WR4 territory since he'll be one of the top receiving options with Kelvin Benjamin (knee) out.

Carolina Panthers rookie QB Cam Newton said he has full confidence in rookie WR Devin Funchess stepping into the starting wide receiver role for the Panthers with WR Kelvin Benjamin (knee) out for the season. Funchess sat out the team's second preseason game with a tight hamstring, but he's expected to play against the New England Patriots Friday, Aug. 28. "He's a competitor," Newton said of the former Michigan star. "He's a guy that wants to be great. We talk often. I'm pretty much a person that he can trust and that I know I can trust when the game comes on the line. We just need to get him to 100%."
Fantasy Tip: Funchess will surely have plenty of targets come his way from now that Benjamin is out for the season. He's best served as a WR3 on your fantasy team, but he has upside for more as a big-bodied wideout that could get plenty of looks in the red zone.

Carolina Panthers WR Devin Funchess' (hamstring) football smarts will help alleviate his rookie learning curve, according to head coach Ron Rivera. Rivera believes Funchess can fill in nicely for WR Kelvin Benjamin (knee), who is out for the year with a torn anterior cruciate ligament. Funchess said he won't be fazed by Benjamin's injury and that he's ready for an increased role.
Fantasy Tip: Funchess is the next man up in the Panthers' offense. Carolina doesn't have the most depth at wide receiver, so Funchess doesn't have the best competition to take away targets. He and Greg Olsen are expected to be the two main pass-catchers now. Look at Funchess as a low-end WR2 to high-end WR3.
