Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton and the team have made no progress in talks about a contract extension since discussing it before the season. Both sides hope to have something done in the offseason, however.
Fantasy Tip: Newton has been pretty bad in recent weeks for his fantasy football owners. Consider Newton a midrange to weak QB1 and play him accordingly based on the matchups.

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton had the worst statistical game of his career in the Week 9 loss to the New Orleans Saints Thursday, Oct. 30, completing just 10 of 28 passes for 151 yards with no touchdowns and one interception (he also ran a TD in). Newton posted career lows in completions, completion percentage (35.7) and passer rating (39.4). He was sacked four times and also lost a fumble.
Fantasy Tip: Newton has been bad of late, reminding owners that he's a midrange QB1 on a week-to-week basis. He can make plays with his legs, but if his offensive line can't protect him, it won't be pretty, like we saw last night.

Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams had only eight carries for 20 yards in the Week 9 game against the New Orleans Saints Thursday, Oct. 30, in his first game back after missing four straight contests with an ankle injury.
Fantasy Tip: The Panthers likely wanted to ease Williams back into game action, but regardless, this is a backfield that will continue to include Jonathan Stewart when he's healthy. Williams and Stewart are midrange flex plays, at best, each week.

Carolina Panthers DE Greg Hardy will seek immediate reinstatement into the league after learning that his domestic violence trial set for next month is being postponed until after this season, according to a source. Hardy is unsure what the chances are that commissioner Roger Goodell will accommodate his request. A new trial date has yet to be set.

Fantasy Tip: Williams ($4,100; 8.2% of cap) could be a nice sleeper option for your FantasyScore lineups if you're willing to trust him in his first week back against a poor Saints defense. Jonathan Stewart ($4,300) should still see carries, but he's much less attractive with Williams back in the fold.

Carolina Panthers OT Byron Bell (knee), CB Bene Benwikere (ankle), WR Philly Brown (concussion), OG Amini Silatolu (calf), OG Trai Turner (knee) and RB Fozzy Whittaker (thigh) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 29, and have been ruled out. DT Kawann Short (ankle) and FS Thomas DeCoud (hamstring) were limited during practice and are listed as questionable. OT Nate Chandler (thigh) and LB Jason Williams (hip) fully participated in practice and are listed as probable.

Fantasy Tip: Williams probably will split playing time with Jonathan Stewart during the game. Williams has a price of $4,100 on FantasyScore and could be a flex option for owners.

Fantasy Tip: Williams is still expected to start Thursday night against the New Orleans Saints. He may not see a whole lot of playing time coming off the injury and with Jonathan Stewart still in the mix. You can probably do better than his $4,100 price on FantasyScore.
