Cowboys | Ben Tate working out for Dallas

Thu, 21 May 2015 06:42:54 -0700

Free-agent RB Ben Tate (Steelers) is working out for the Dallas Cowboys Thursday, May 21.

Fantasy Tip: Tate could grab a chunk of the committee approach expected from the Dallas backfield and provide depth at the position. He has flashed solid production at various stages of his career, and he has just 540 carries over his four-year career. So while he hasn't racked up significant miles as a pro, injuries have been problematic for the Auburn alum. Running behind a top-tier offensive line would boast Tate's fantasy value, and he would be worth a late-round flier in drafts, if he signs with the Cowboys. After all, Darren McFadden has his own injury concerns, Joseph Randle hasn't proven he can handle the load, and Lance Dunbar is best utilized in the passing game as a change-of-pace back.

Cowboys | Joseph Randle logical leader of RBBC

Wed, 20 May 2015 18:02:38 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle is the most likely option to lead the team's running back by committee approach in 2015. Randle has the most experience in the system, and he also has experience as a starter. Randle filled in for RB DeMarco Murray in 2013, when Murray was injured.

Fantasy Tip: Randle will likely be discounted all through draft season and he will also be likely to begin the 2015 season as a cheap option on FantasyScore. There are plenty of on-field and off-field issues surrounding Randle, but the upside is high.

Cowboys | Dustin Vaughan could follow Tony Romo

Wed, 20 May 2015 17:52:46 -0700

Dallas Cowboys QB Dustin Vaughan could follow QB Tony Romo as the Cowboys' starting quarterback. West Texas A&M head coach Mike Nesbitt believes his ex-quarterback will be worth the wait. "No doubt it's going to take some time," Nesbitt said. "He's not going to be your one or two right now. But I do think with experience and with time, he could turn out to be a starter in the NFL. But it's going to take a team that has that kind of patience. He's a hidden gem," said Nesbitt. Vaughan threw 43 passes in his first preseason in 2014 - Romo only threw 17 passes in his first preseason.

Cowboys | Dez Bryant attends offseason program

Mon, 18 May 2015 10:11:37 -0700

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant is participating in the strength and conditioning program, despite being at odds with the Cowboys regarding his current contract. "I wanted to be here for my teammates," Bryant said. "In the past two years that locker room has changed. There is something special in there." If Bryant isn't given a long-term deal, he may not practice with the team until late July when training camp begins.

Fantasy Tip: Bryant will play for the Cowboys this year; it's just a matter of how much money he'll be making and for how long. When healthy, Bryant is one of the few receivers who can be considered No. 1 overall at the position. He's worth a late first-round pick or an early second-round pick in fantasy drafts.

Cowboys | Five more years for Jason Witten?

Sun, 17 May 2015 17:24:29 -0700

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten said Sunday, May 17, that he and QB Tony Romo could play four or five more years if they continue to play like they did last season.

Fantasy Tip: Witten is no longer an elite fantasy tight end, but he still finished in the top 10 in catches and receiving yards at the position last season. He should be considered a low-end TE1 heading into 2015.

Cowboys | Dallas going to miss DeMarco Murray?

Sun, 17 May 2015 16:16:52 -0700

Philadelphia Eagles RB DeMarco Murray is going to be missed by his former team, the Dallas Cowboys, according to retired WR Michael Irvin. "I want to upchuck sometimes when I hear the thoughts of others and (they say), 'Oh, you can put any running back behind that offensive line of the Dallas Cowboys," Irvin said. "I say, 'Really? Why did they hand the ball off to DeMarco Murray 392 times? Why didn't they stick anybody back there last year?' Because they already knew."

Fantasy Tip: Irvin is unconvinced that Darren McFadden and company can fill Murray's shoes, but he is probably selling Dallas' talented offensive line a little short. If McFadden can stay healthy, he could produce RB1 numbers. Even with the injury risk, he is worth taking a chance on as a RB2.

Sun, 17 May 2015 07:04:41 -0700

Cowboys | Joseph Randle needs team's trust

Sat, 16 May 2015 16:24:40 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Joseph Randle has the skills to lead the team's backfield in 2015 but he'll need to work on his off-field issues, according to Jon Machota of SportsDayDFW.com. Randle will need to prove to his coaches he can stay out of trouble and be relied on every week.

Fantasy Tip: Randle rushed for 343 yards on just 51 attempts last season. The Cowboys crowded, yet, lackluster backfield will likely keep Randle available in the latter rounds of 2015 fantasy drafts, and if he can emerge as the lead back early in the season, he could be a high-end RB2.
