Cowboys | Darren McFadden story revised

Wed, 29 Jun 2016 09:38:32 -0700

Updating previous reports, Dallas Cowboys RB Darren McFadden (elbow) said he was injured in a slightly different way than the team, who said McFadden was injured trying to save his cellphone, released to the public. McFadden said his phone was in his hand, but he slipped down and fell on the elbow. He said he still has a few weeks in a brace after June 14 surgery, and it's possible he could miss the season opener.

Fantasy Tip: Ezekiel Elliott has a golden opportunity in training camp and only has Alfred Morris to stave off. Morris has very meager RB4 or RB5 value in fantasy. Elliott has drawn rave reviews, but taking him as anything more than an RB2 is a risk. McFadden seems to have the upper hand over Morris because he's a better receiver than the former Redskin, but McFadden is an RB4 in fantasy.

Cowboys | Ezekiel Elliott could see big workload

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 12:28:43 -0700

Dallas Cowboys rookie RB Ezekiel Elliott could receive 280 to 300 carries in his rookie season, in the opinion of David Helman of dallascowboys.com.

Fantasy Tip: There is much expected of the highly touted rookie. He should be the primary ball-carrier for Dallas as long as he's healthy. Elliott has a steep price so far in fantasy drafts, though, so don't take him too early even though he could finish as an RB1.

Cowboys | Tony Romo throwing well

Thu, 16 Jun 2016 13:08:08 -0700

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (collarbone) said he's throwing as well as he ever has as he continues to recover from a broken collarbone and subsequent offseason surgery. He and the Cowboys will go over his schedule in training camp, and he may continue to take Wednesdays off depending on how his throwing feels each day. Romo did acknowledge that he can't ignore his injury history.

Fantasy Tip: Romo is one of the riskier fantasy quarterbacks year in and year out because of his extensive injury history. He has QB1 upside, but staying on the field isn't a guarantee. If he's full-go before the season starts then he should be drafted as a low-end QB1 to high-end QB2.

Cowboys | Dez Bryant will be ready for camp

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 17:19:48 -0700

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant (foot) said he will be ready for the start of training camp. Bryant said he plans to work out with QB Tony Romo in the near future.

Fantasy Tip: Bryant has been limited during offseason workouts but appears to be on track for the start of training camp. He is one of the top receivers in the NFL when he is healthy and should be selected in one of the first few rounds of all drafts.

Cowboys | Ezekiel Elliott pushed into starting role

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 11:23:43 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott took all the first-team repetitions in practice Tuesday, June 14, with RB Darren McFadden (elbow) out with a fractured elbow for two months. Elliott will remain the starting running back for all intents and purposes. "I think it's going to be real big for him, really beneficial, because now he's forced to go in and do it," running backs coach Gary Brown said of Elliott getting more first-team snaps. "He's forced to go in there to perform and perform at a high level. He can't rest on his leader maybe helping him a little bit. He has to rest on himself. So it's going to be a good thing." Offensive coordinator Scott Linehan called Elliott "a full-package running back."

Fantasy Tip: The sky is the limit for the rookie. He was expected to see the majority of touches anyway with McFadden in the picture, but his timeline for a heavy dose of action has now been accelerated. Good luck landing Elliott as your RB1 anywhere past the end of the first round in fantasy drafts this fall.

Cowboys | Darren McFadden hurt in home accident

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 09:33:20 -0700

Updating an earlier report, Dallas Cowboys RB Darren McFadden (elbow) required surgery on a broken elbow after he was injured in an accident at home. McFadden is expected to miss two months and be ready by the end of training camp.

Fantasy Tip: The stage appears to be set for Ezekiel Elliott to take the bull by the horns. Alfred Morris should return into the picture as well. McFadden trumps Morris because he's a better receiver, but one has to wonder the value of having all three on the same team. Elliott is a high-end RB3 that will probably start sneaking into RB2 territory. McFadden, if he can return in time to have something resembling a training camp, is an RB4. Morris' value is tricky with the other two in the backfield, but he's an RB5 flyer.

Cowboys | Darren McFadden undergoes surgery

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 09:20:29 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Darren McFadden (elbow) underwent surgery on his elbow Tuesday, June 14, and is expected back in time for the season opener, according to head coach Jason Garrett.

Fantasy Tip: Missing training camp could be bad for his usage. It gives rookie Ezekiel Elliott an entire camp to lead the way. He has a ton of hype already, and if he has a good camp, McFadden could be left with table scraps. The perfect-world scenario is a 50-50 split between the two, but McFadden may fall into the RB4 mix if he misses a big portion of camp.

Cowboys | Rolando McClain, Ronald Leary show up

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 09:20:21 -0700

Dallas Cowboys LB Rolando McClain and OG Ronald Leary reported to mandatory minicamp Tuesday, June 14, with a fine worth $76,580 hanging over their heads if they didn't attend. It's not known how much they'll participate in the three-day camp. Leary has been seeking a trade since before the NFL draft.

Cowboys | Dez Bryant limited in camp

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 08:54:05 -0700

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant (foot) will not be a full participant in minicamp this week, and he'll mostly work on the side.

Fantasy Tip: Bryant should be ready for the season, but it's tough to take him as one of the first receivers off the board until he proves he's 100% from his broken foot. Bryant could fall to the midrange of the WR1 pack, where he'll present a nice value if he's healthy.

Cowboys | Darren McFadden embracing role

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 18:33:03 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Darren McFadden called RB Ezekiel Elliott an "awesome runner" and said he is going to show him the ropes while still competing with Elliott for touches.

Fantasy Tip: McFadden is saying all the right things, but the Dallas backfield is going to belong to Elliott. McFadden could still be a viable RB3 in PPR formats, but his upside is severely capped with Elliott in town.

Cowboys | Kellen Moore has support

Sat, 11 Jun 2016 20:47:53 -0700

Dallas Cowboys QB Kellen Moore is the right man for the backup quarterback job, owner Jerry Jones said. "He really knows the offense well," Jones said. "Our coaches have tremendous confidence in him. The players do to. I can speak for them. So I feel good at backup quarterback."
