Sun, 26 Jun 2016 11:52:18 -0700

Detroit Lions LB Brandon Copeland has primarily played defensive end this offseason. Lions | Calvin Johnson staying retired

Sat, 25 Jun 2016 17:37:05 -0700

Retired WR Calvin Johnson (Lions) said Saturday, June 25, he feels good about his decision to retire and is not coming back to the NFL.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson's decision to retire should make Golden Tate a WR2 candidate, and Eric Ebron becomes an attractive upside option at tight end.

Lions | Zach Zenner fully recovered

Sat, 25 Jun 2016 11:15:17 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Zach Zenner (ribs, lung) has appeared to be fully recovered from his rib and lung injuries last season.

Fantasy Tip: Zenner could see more playing time in 2016, especially if Stevan Ridley continues to be hampered with injuries again. Ameer Abdullah and Theo Riddick are Detroit's top two running backs, but Zenner is worth a stash in deeper formats.

Lions | Jeremy Kerley favored for No. 3 WR?

Sat, 25 Jun 2016 11:05:38 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Jeremy Kerley is expected to be the Lions' No. 3 wide receiver behind WRs Golden Tate and Marvin Jones and ahead of WR T.J. Jones.

Fantasy Tip: Tate, Jones, Theo Riddick and Eric Ebron will likely be the main targets in Detroit's offense with Calvin Johnson gone. Kerley and Jones are only worth a flier in deeper leagues.

Lions | Cole Wick a roster candidate

Sat, 25 Jun 2016 10:54:26 -0700

Detroit Lions TE Cole Wick too advantage of the first-team repetitions he received this offseason. He'll have a good chance to make the 53-man roster if he continues his progress in training camp.

Fantasy Tip: Wick will have no fantasy value unless two of Eric Ebron, Brandon Pettigrew and Tim Wright are hurt for an extended period of time.

Lions | Andre Caldwell could make roster

Sat, 25 Jun 2016 10:40:43 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Andre Caldwell looked comfortable and confident with his new team in early offseason practices. He has a legitimate chance to make the final roster, in the opinion of MLive.com's Mike Mulholland.

Fantasy Tip: Caldwell's experience and veteran leadership could be of value to the Lions, but he holds little fantasy value right now and can be avoided in drafts.

Lions | Ameer Abdullah to carry the load?

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 18:42:40 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah averaged 4.7 yards per carry in the second of last season, and beat writer Tim Twentyman believes Abdullah will be given the opportunity to be the lead back in 2016.

Fantasy Tip: His fumbling issues add an element of risk, but don't hesitate to grab Abdullah as a high-end RB3. He could easily finish as a RB2.

Lions | Ameer Abdullah focused on little things

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 08:22:24 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah (shoulder), who is expected to be ready for training camp, is focused on the little things in improving as a player.

"I feel like I showed some flashes last year, but in this league you can't show flashes," Abdullah said. "You have to be consistent. That definitely had a lot to do with growing pains. It also had a lot to do with me being immature as a player coming straight from college and not understanding what kind of preparation and mental focus it took for such a long amount of time. I know I have a lot to give to this team and a lot to give to this league. I know I can be a good back, but it starts with those little things I mentioned earlier."

Fantasy Tip: Abdullah figures to be the lead back in a committee with Theo Riddick and Stevan Ridley. Abdullah is safest as a high-end RB3, but he could be an RB2 before all is said and done.

Lions | Detroit offense tougher for defenses?

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 17:50:14 -0700

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford believes his offense will be tougher to defend without former WR Calvin Johnson. Stafford said defenses won't know who the Lions will go to on offense, whereas most of the time in previous years Johnson was their go-to guy.

Fantasy Tip: Golden Tate takes over as the No. 1 wide receiver in Detroit, and he's a WR2 candidate in 2016. Marvin Jones figures to be the No. 2 receiver, but he shouldn't be viewed as more than a WR4 with WR3 upside.

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 14:58:53 -0700

Detroit Lions S Isaiah N. Johnson, SS Rafael Bush, CB Tavon Wilson and SS Miles Killebrew have all practiced with the first-team defense this offseason, according to general manager Bob Quinn. Quinn said the battle for starting strong safety is an intriguing one, but it was reported earlier that Bush may have the edge with his experience.

Lions | Andre Roberts will be moved around

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 10:17:13 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Andre Roberts said he will be used as an outside receiver as well as a slot receiver during the preseason. He may also receive a chance to compete for the punt returner job.

Fantasy Tip: Roberts will need a solid preseason in order to make the 53-man roster. He likely would be the No. 4 or No. 5 receiver if he makes the team and would see limited targets. Roberts could be a late-round option in deeper leagues but likely will be on the waiver wire in most leagues.
