Vikings | Adam Thielen not content with breakout year

Mon, 29 May 2017 20:40:06 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Adam Thielen said he is dedicated in proving his breakout performance this past season wasn't a fluke. "I'm waiting until I'm done playing to reflect," Thielen said at the club's organized team activities last week. "I've got too much to work on, too many big goals, to reflect on anything. I'm just going to come out here every day and try to get better and bring the same mindset I've brought since I got to the league."

Fantasy Tip: Thielen had only 20 catches combined in his first two seasons prior to recording 69 receptions for 967 yards and five touchdowns during the 2016 campaign, so this is certainly encouraging to hear that he won't be content with that. He's a fine bet to keep it going through next year as one of Sam Bradford's most trusted targets, especially if Stefon Diggs is hampered by injury issues again.

Vikings | Jerick McKinnon bigger, better in 2017?

Sat, 27 May 2017 15:03:27 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Jerick McKinnon trained with former teammate Adrian Peterson in Houston during the offseason and weighs 211 pounds, up from 200 a season ago. McKinnon is reportedly not only stronger, but faster as well. "I'm just ready to prove myself and show how much better I've got in the offseason," McKinnon said.

Fantasy Tip: The Vikings added Latavius Murray and second-round pick Dalvin Cook this spring, but McKinnon boasts enough talent to give both a run for their money. Cook and Murray will likely end up winning out as the team has invested more money in them, although it will be difficult to keep a stronger and faster McKinnon off the field. If his offseason training is as good as he thinks it was, McKinnon could force the Vikings to go with a three-man committee backfield.

Vikings | Mike Zimmer not going anywhere

Fri, 26 May 2017 11:09:13 -0700

Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer vowed Friday, May 26, his ongoing eye issues will not prevent him from continuing his coaching career. Zimmer had his latest eye surgery - his eighth - on May 17. He is expected to return to Minnesota on June 4 to visit with local doctors before a decision is made as to whether or not he will attend OTAs later that week. "I'll be back shortly. One eye or two, it really doesn't matter. I'm going to be back. So we can put the retiring thing or whatever to bed quickly," Zimmer said.

Vikings | Michael Floyd contract info

Thu, 25 May 2017 23:37:03 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Michael Floyd's one-year deal that contains no guaranteed money, according to ESPN's Ben Goessling. That means the team has no financial commitment to Floyd should he fail to make the final cut.

Fantasy Tip: Floyd teased for years in Arizona as part of a much better passing attack. There are certainly opportunities to earn snaps in Minnesota, but it's unlikely Floyd will do enough to return meaningful value. He's best left on waivers.

Vikings | Dalvin Cook fitting in

Thu, 25 May 2017 20:50:34 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Dalvin Cook isn't working with the first-team offense yet but is fitting in nicely, according to offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur. "He's a very instinctive runner," Shurmur said. "He'll get his foot down and gets up the field. He's actually pretty instinctive when it comes to who to block in pass protection and he catches the ball extremely well."

Fantasy Tip: Murray should be a first-round pick in rookie drafts, but competition from Latavius Murray will make him more of a RB3 in redraft formats with more upside in PPR formats.

Vikings | Laquon Treadwell impressing coordinator

Thu, 25 May 2017 11:36:15 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Laquon Treadwell is having a good offseason so far, according to offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur. Treadwell has been "on point" from a mental standpoint. He has done well route-running, catching the ball and blocking, too. Shurmur said he's pleased with the progress Treadwell has made from a year ago.

Fantasy Tip: Treadwell will be playing behind Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen and will have to fight off Michael Floyd and Jarius Wright for playing time. On top of that, he's in one of the more underwhelming passing offenses in the NFL. The second-year receiver is no more than a late-round flier.

Vikings | Laquon Treadwell running with the first team

Wed, 24 May 2017 21:36:18 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Laquon Treadwell has reported the run with the first-team offense alongside Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen during OTAs, according to Minneapolis Star Tribune's Matt Vensel.

Fantasy Tip: Treadwell is likely getting the nod over Michael Floyd given his experience in Pat Shurmur's system and the fact he is last year's first-round pick. The Vikings obviously want to see Treadwell succeed following his injury-ravaged rookie campaign, but Floyd will get his shot if things don't fall into place for Treadwell in 2017. Dynasty leaguers should hold Treadwell for now, but redraft owners are advised to pass.

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater throws at OTAs

Tue, 23 May 2017 15:42:05 -0700

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) participated in some drop back passes during organized team activities Tuesday, May 23. Bridgewater's injured knee was in a brace and as he continues to rehabilitate from surgery.

Fantasy Tip: There's no telling when Bridgewater will be back to full health and be able to take the field again. In the meantime, Sam Bradford will continue to start. And while he is coming off a career year, Bradford's numbers just aren't good enough for him to be considered a QB1.
