Vikings | Sam Bradford took care of the ball in 2016

Wed, 22 Feb 2017 21:34:42 -0800

Minnesota Vikings QB Sam Bradford totaled six touchdown passes over the final two weeks of the season - a total that surpassed the number of interceptions he threw all season (five).

Fantasy Tip: Bradford played at least 14 games for the fourth time in his career last season, but 2016 marked the first time in those years he threw fewer than 13 interceptions. He has arguably the best supporting cast he's ever had at the moment with Stefon Diggs, Adam Thielen and Kyle Rudolph all coming off career years. The Vikings are going to need to address their offensive line if they hope to keep Bradford mostly healthy again next year, but he has emerged as a matchup-based QB2 in fantasy at the very least.

Vikings | Kyle Rudolph was NFL's most-targeted TE

Tue, 21 Feb 2017 20:46:47 -0800

Minnesota Vikings TE Kyle Rudolph led all tight ends this past season with 132 targets, converting that into career highs in receptions (83) and yards (840). He also registered seven receiving touchdowns.

Fantasy Tip: It's understandable if most owners were not aware of this. Luckily for Rudolph, he could be on track for a similarly heavy workload next year, as his role in the offense undoubtedly increased once star running back Adrian Peterson went down with injury. Peterson might not return to Minnesota, and if he's out of town, Rudolph should ideally pick up where he left off as one of Sam Bradford's most dependable targets in the passing game.

Vikings | Offseason 'critical' for Laquon Treadwell

Tue, 21 Feb 2017 09:11:13 -0800

Minnesota Vikings WR Laquon Treadwell was dogged by lower-body injuries all year long and finished his rookie season with only one catch for 15 yards. Nevertheless, offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur is hopeful the receiver can eventually prove he was worth the No. 23 overall pick last spring. (Treadwell) is going to be like any young player that's going from year one to year two. This is going to be an offseason that is very critical. … He came in and kind of had little nagging things that kind of kept him from full-time early. … He did well when he got in the game, he didn't get targeted often, but he blocked well and he competed. That's really the starting point for any young player," Shurmur said.

Fantasy Tip: Treadwell doesn't turn 22 until mid-June, so it is far too early to be overly concerned about his long-term prospects just yet. He dealt with foot, hamstring and ankle injuries throughout the year, which ultimately cost him enough time to build any kind of trust or history with Sam Bradford or Shurmur. With Charles Johnson and Cordarrelle Patterson both set to hit free agency next month, there will be an opportunity for Treadwell to get plenty of reps. For now, however, he is only worth consideration in dynasty leagues.

Vikings | Pat Shurmur focused on running game

Mon, 20 Feb 2017 14:55:47 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RBs Adrian Peterson and/or Jerick McKinnon could see increased usage in 2017 with offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur. Shurmur wants to improve the offense as a whole, but he said the key and focal point of the offense will be to do a better job in the running game.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson's future with the Vikings remains unclear, but either he or McKinnon could be better used next season, with Matt Asiata remaining in a change-of-pace and passing role. No matter who Peterson plays for in 2017, drafting him will be playing with fire considering he's missed almost two full seasons in the past three years.

Vikings | Teddy Bridgewater working to return

Sat, 18 Feb 2017 18:44:15 -0800

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) is "grinding" and doing all types of drills as part of his rehab from his knee injury, according to WR Charles Johnson.

Fantasy Tip: Bridgewater is likely to miss the entire 2017 season as he continues his recovery. Sam Bradford should continue to start in his place, but he is a low-upside QB2.

Vikings | Adam Thielen to give hometown discount?

Sat, 18 Feb 2017 18:33:57 -0800

Minnesota Vikings impending free-agent WR Adam Thielen said there is "something special" about playing for one franchise, and he hopes to stay with Minnesota if he receives an offer in his "ballpark."

Fantasy Tip: Thielen developed great chemistry with Sam Bradford and emerged as Minnesota's steadiest receiver. If he is a Viking in 2017, he should be a quality WR3.

Vikings | Cordarrelle Patterson wants the ball

Sun, 05 Feb 2017 17:32:45 -0800

Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson said his future in Minnesota depends on how he will be used. "I need to know if I'm going to play or not," Patterson said. "If not, I'll take my talents elsewhere. If they want me back, they'll make a deal and get me back."

Fantasy Tip: Patterson's role in the offense increased once Pat Shurmur took over as offensive coordinator, but his fantasy value is always going to be tied to big plays. His boom-or-bust style makes him more appealing in DFS formats than in season-long leagues.
