Chip Ganassi Racing rookie driver Kyle Larson has finished 28th or worse in three consecutive races to slip to 17th in the points. He had been seventh in points less than a month ago. "Our chances (to make the Chase) were really good up until three weeks ago," Larson said Friday, July 11.
Fantasy Tip: Larson was a nice fantasy option earlier in the year, but he has fallen on hard times. The rookie should only be used if the price is right in salary-cap formats.

Fantasy Tip: Larson has more than filled the shoes of the departed Juan Pablo Montoya in the Target No. 42 Chevy. He has consistently run in the Top 15 this season, and has the chance to really make a good showing at the Monster Mile. In salary cap leagues, he is still a bit of a bargain, and a fine selection as a No. 3 or 4 fantasy option.

Chip Ganassi Racing driver Kyle Larson has breathed new life into the No. 42 team, and the combination of the rookie and mild-mannered crew chief Chris Heroy is working. Only three drivers have more Top 10 finishes (five) than Larson this season, and he has three Top 10 finishes over the past four races heading into Kansas Speedway this weekend.

Chip Ganassi Racing has had preliminary discussions with Furniture Row Racing driver Kurt Busch about driving in the Indianapolis 500 this year. "I've talked to him," team president Steve Lauletta said. "I don't know if it's going to work for us. We haven't gotten to a point where we know if we can run a fifth car for the Indy 500. If we did that, then we'd be able to have a more detailed conversation. But we haven't made that decision yet." Busch's first choice is to partner with Andretti Autosport because he tested with them last year.

Under a caution flag on Lap 160 of the Daytona 500, Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing driver Juan Pablo Montoya's car spun out of control and hit the jet dryer that was cleaning up debris on the track, causing a large fire that was eventually put out by safety personnel. Montoya, who walked out of the car after the wreck, was released from the infield care center. The jet dryer driver was taken to a nearby hospital for further evaluation. The race is under red flag as the track crew works to clean up the mess.
