SceneDaily.com reports Dan Stillman, the crew chief for the No. 01 Dale Earnhardt Inc. team for driver Regan Smith, was named the Wypall Wipers crew chief of the race for the Amp Energy 500 at Talladega Superspeedway Sunday, Oct. 5. Smith ended up finishing 18th after being penalized for passing below the yellow line on the final lap.

David Exum, of SceneDaily.com, reports Dale Earnhardt Inc. driver Regan Smith said he does not regret his move at Talladega Superspeedway in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race, in which he went below the yellow line to pass Joe Gibbs Racing driver Tony Stewart on the final lap. "I knew that I had to go for the win," Smith said. "If I had just sat back there in second place, I would have had 400 people at Dale Earnhardt Inc. mad at me. The guys built me a great car, and I owed them a chance at the win."

Dale Earnhardt Inc. | Smith drops to 18th because of rule violation at Talladega

NASCAR.com reports Dale Earnhardt Inc. driver Regan Smith was actually the first to cross the finish line during the AMP Energy 500 at Talladega Superspeedway Sunday, Oct. 5. However, Smith was forced to dip below the yellow line while passing Joe Gibbs Racing driver Tony Stewart. NASCAR views that as Smith being out of bounds, so he was demoted to an 18th-place finish in the race. Smith felt he was forced over the line by Stewart and that it was allowed in the rules when another driver forces you beyond the line.

The Associated Press reports Dale Earnhardt Inc. had all four drivers place in the top 10 Saturday, Oct. 4, at Talladega Superspeedway. Drivers Aric Almirola qualified third, Regan Smith was fourth, Paul Menard was fifth and Martin Truex Jr. came in 10th.
