Hamlin and owner Joe Gibbs were each penalized 75 driver and car owner points.

Joe Gibbs Racing | Denny Hamlin penalized 75 points

Tue, 29 Jul 2014 19:06:26 -0700

Joe Gibbs Racing driver Denny Hamlin was stripped of 75 points in the series' owner championship standings, and Hamlin was docked 75 points in the drivers' standings after infractions were found Tuesday, July 29, in a post-race inspection after the Sprint Cup Series race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Hamlin had finished third in the race. Crew chief Darian Grubb was also suspended for the next six Sprint Cup events and fined $125,000, while car chief Wesley Sherrill was issued a six-race suspension, and he will be on probation for six months. JGR plans to appeal the penalty, although Grubb and Sherrill will begin serving their suspensions immediately, starting this weekend at Pocono Raceway.

Fantasy Tip: Hamlin drops from 11th to 21st overall in the Sprint Cup standings, a stiff penalty for a driver who already is one start shorter than everyone else due to an early-season eye injury. He is still a good bet for the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup after winning at Talladega Superspeedway in May. However, fantasy owners will likely lose points from this past weekend when adjustments are made to the points, perhaps changing many results. In addition, the loss of Grubb going forward, and an interim crew chief, might cause some uneven results, although Hamlin has usually fared well at the next stop, Pocono.

Joe Gibbs Racing | Team slow in practice

Sat, 07 Jun 2014 20:34:50 -0700

Joe Gibbs Racing drivers Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin and Matt Kenseth did not show well in practice Saturday, June 7, at Pocono Raceway. Hamlin was 22nd in practice, while Busch was 23rd and Kenseth 27th.

Fantasy Tip: Don't put too much stock into the practice speeds. Hamlin is on the pole for Sunday's race, and he has four career wins at the track with an Average Finish of 12.6 in 16 career starts. Busch has struggled at Pocono, and he is one to avoid for fantasy purposes. He has just four Top 5 finishes in 18 career starts with four DNFs. Kenseth also has never won at Long Pond, but he has a 14.9 Average Finish in 28 career starts, ninth-best among all active drivers.

Joe Gibbs Racing | Matt Kenseth determined to find answers

Mon, 02 Jun 2014 19:42:01 -0700

Joe Gibbs Racing driver Matt Kenseth finished in third place at the FedEx 400 benefiting Autism Speaks Sunday, June 1, at Dover International Speedway. While it was good enough to move into the points lead, he is still looking for that elusive first win of the season. "If there's not 16 winners and even if there is, they put the winner in there (Chase field)," Kenseth said. "So even though we haven't been able to win yet, we've been solid and if you can't win, you want to finish as high as you can every week - and obviously that's rewarded by points." Kenseth has a series-best 10 Top 10 finishes, but he is searching for answers on how to win.

At the next Sprint Cup Series stop at Pocono Raceway June 8, Kenseth has never won. At Michigan International Speedway, the stop after Pocono June 15, Kenseth has two career wins, but none since 2006. And after that, the series moves to Infineon Raceway in Sonoma June 22 where Kenseth has zero career victories.

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners have been getting tremendous performances from Kenseth, so even though he hasn't cracked into Victory Lane, he remains a must-start option week in and week out.

Joe Gibbs Racing | Kyle Busch isn't great at Talladega

Wed, 30 Apr 2014 19:07:14 -0700

Joe Gibbs Racing driver Kyle Busch has struggled in his career at Talladega Superspeedway, the site of this weekend's Aarons 499 Sunday, May 4. In 18 career starts, Rowdy has one win with four Top 5s and he has led 155 laps, but he also has five DNFs and an Average Finish of 21.9.

Fantasy Tip: In fantasy formats which restrict the use of a driver to a certain amount of races, owners will want to leave Busch on the shelf this weekend, regardless of price. Save Busch for the short tracks and road courses, where he has proven to be much better over the years.

Joe Gibbs Racing | Kyle Busch doesn't care for new tires

Mon, 28 Apr 2014 19:30:44 -0700

Goodyear brought a new tire combination to the Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond International Raceway, with its new multi-zone tire on the right side. Joe Gibbs Racing driver Kyle Busch was among the outspoken of drivers after the race. "It's just too hard and too hard of a compound for here," Busch said. "We were all basically on ice here, it was just like having a hard tire out there. The effort that they tried to gain with the left side tire softening it up, you could just take the left sides off, it didn't feel like they did anything."
