Arizona Diamondbacks news, rumors and injuries

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Zack Greinke's (oblique) injury isn't believed to be too serious. Cincinnati Reds SP Anthony DeSclafani missed 10 weeks after an oblique strain in spring training, but the Diamondbacks don't think Greinke's injury is as serious.
Fantasy Tip: It was terrible timing for an injury for Greinke owners, as the right-hander had been 4-0 with a 1.63 ERA and 31 K's in 38 2/3 innings over six June starts. Oblique injuries are often tricky for pitchers, so expect Greinke to at least miss a start and possibly land on the DL through the All-Star break.

Arizona Diamondbacks SS Nick Ahmed, C Welington Castillo and OF Peter O'Brien are not in the starting lineup Wednesday, June 29. 2B Phil Gosselin is starting at second and hitting second, C Chris Herrmann is catching and batting sixth and 3B Brandon Drury is in left field and hitting seventh against Philadelphia Phillies SP Zach Eflin.
Fantasy Tip: Despite the juicy lineup spot, Gosselin is a light-hitting middle infielder that isn't attractive to those playing DFS today. Drury had a hot start to the year but has faded with limited playing time and is a low-end option near the bottom of the order. Herrmann has been a big surprise this year with a .298/.363/.529 slash line, six home runs and 26 RBI. You could do much worse than Herrmann if you're looking for a cheap value pick at catcher in daily games.

Arizona Diamondbacks RP Brad Ziegler could become trade bait as the team is trending towards becoming sellers at the trade deadline. RP Daniel Hudson is in the same boat as both are free agents after the season.
Fantasy Tip: Ziegler would likely be acquired to serve as a setup man, which would ruin the only category that he's contributing in with his 16 saves. It might be wise to pick up Tyler Clippard and stash him if possible in case Ziegler is dealt.
Wed, 29 Jun 2016 04:34:29 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Ziegler owners shouldn't panic yet. After all, before this bump in the road he converted 43 straight saves. That's enough to get goodwill from your manager. Keep playing Ziegler up until the point this really becomes an issue.

Fantasy Tip: Stay tuned for further updates on his condition. If it's just tightness, Greinke may be in danger of missing a start for the first time since 2013. If it turns out to be more, that could be a disaster for the Diamondbacks. Right now it looks like manager Chip Hale removed Greinke for precautionary reasons.

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Zack Greinke (back, hip) left his start Tuesday, June 28, against the Philadelphia Phillies after just two innings due to a back or hip injury. The injury did not appear to be too serious.
Fantasy Tip: Greinke was lifted early, and it might simply have been a precaution. When we learn the exact source and severity of the injury we'll make sure to pass it along.
Tue, 28 Jun 2016 16:56:14 -0700
Arizona Diamondbacks SP Zack Greinke has gone 7-0 in his last eight starts and has a 2.18 ERA during that span. He has held opponents to a .191 batting average and a .224 on-base percentage in those eight games.
Fantasy Tip: Greinke has turned things around after struggling during the first month of the season. Greinke should be a starting option in all fantasy leagues because of his recent success as well as his favorable matchup.

Fantasy Tip: Ray's numbers don't look great for owners in mixed leagues (4.69 ERA, 1.54 WHIP), but his 10.4 K/9 is attractive minus his inconsistency this year. The D-backs face the Giants at home Sunday, so Ray will be a risky fantasy starter given his finger issue.
Mon, 27 Jun 2016 23:12:03 -0700
Arizona Diamondbacks SP Robbie Ray (finger) left his start Monday, June 27, with a blister on the middle finger of his left hand. He doesn't expect to miss his next start. Ray will have an extra day of rest before his next start Sunday, July 3, against the San Francisco Giants.
Fantasy Tip: Ray is 4-7 with a 4.69 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP, but he has 100 strikeouts in 86 1/3 innings. His ratios make him tough to use in traditional leagues, but those K's are attractive in good DFS matchups.

Fantasy Tip: Herrera increased his average this month to .284 following Monday's effort, which is much more in line with .313 and .324 marks he posted in April and May, respectively. Somewhat surprisingly, Herrera is a top-20 fantasy outfielder, so he needs to remain in lineups for the foreseeable future.

Fantasy Tip: RDLR is still a ways off from a return to the big club, but he is worth keeping around should he be able to return later this summer. He is a big-time strikeouts pitcher when healthy.
Mon, 27 Jun 2016 16:00:20 -0700
Arizona Diamondbacks OF Peter O'Brien is not in the starting lineup Monday, June 27. OF Rickie Weeks is starting in left field again and is batting fifth against Philadelphia Phillies SP Vincent Velasquez.
Fantasy Tip: O'Brien and Weeks are splitting time in left field. O'Brien has much more fantasy upside because of his elite power. Weeks is hitting .258 (24-for-93) with four home runs and 10 RBI, and he's a low-end DFS pick when he's starting for the Snakes.
Sun, 26 Jun 2016 12:19:18 -0700
Arizona Diamondbacks 3B Jake Lamb is in the lineup Sunday, June 26, against Colorado Rockies SP Chad Bettis and will bat fourth. OF Rickie Weeks will start in place of Peter O'Brien in left and hit fifth, while C Chris Herrmann will be behind the plate in place of C Welington Castillo and bat sixth.
Fantasy Tip: Lamb plays primarily against right-handers and has been mashing them for the better part of the season, hitting .310 with 12 homers and 39 RBI in 197 at-bats, although he is only 1-for-12 in his career against Bettis. Weeks is 2-for-2 versus the Rockies' right-hander, but he's a risky bet in any format. Herrmann has been exceptional whenever he's received a chance to play this year and makes for a solid DFS play today as well as a great fill-in for any starting fantasy catcher around the league that is getting the day off.
Sat, 25 Jun 2016 10:47:31 -0700
Arizona Diamondbacks OF Yasmany Tomas, C Welington Castillo and SS Nick Ahmed (hip) are back in the starting lineup against Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa Saturday, June 25. In addition, INF/OF Brandon Drury will play third base and bat seventh, while 3B Jake Lamb receives the day off.
Fantasy Tip: Tomas has six home runs and 12 RBI during the month of June, including three homers in the past week, making him a viable outfield option in all formats. Castillo, Ahmed and Drury have been mediocre at the plate recently and should not be viewed as great fantasy options this afternoon.
Sat, 25 Jun 2016 05:20:44 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Ziegler has been pitching well over the last few weeks and had dropped his ERA to 2.43. He should continue to be Arizona's closer and is still a solid starting option in most fantasy leagues.
