Arizona Diamondbacks news, rumors and injuries

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Jeremy Hellickson (hamstring) had a bullpen session canceled and a planned simulated game appearance next week pushed back after experiencing tightness in his hamstring. He has been on the 15-day disabled list since Monday, Aug. 17, with a strained left hamstring.
Fantasy Tip: At this point, Hellickson's ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) season may be in jeopardy, or at least limited to just a start or two at the end of the year. In the majority of leagues, he isn't worth stashing given the uncertainty of when he'll be able to return.

Fantasy Tip: Without the option to utilize a designated hitter, Butler ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) draws out of the lineup Friday. He may grab a start or two during the road series, but you'll want to double-check before locking your lineups. He is hardly pushing the fantasy needle, though, with an underwhelming .202/.325/.279 slash line since the All-Star break.

Fantasy Tip: Tomas ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) has started once in the past five games, and only one of the past six games when Arizona is facing a right-handed pitcher. It might be premature to dub him fourth on the outfield depth chart, but it certainly looks that way right now. He is worth holding in the majority of seasonal leagues, but his leash is becoming shorter by the day.

Arizona Diamondbacks SS Nick Ahmed is not in the starting lineup against St. Louis Cardinals SP Carlos Martinez Thursday, Aug. 27. 2B Chris Owings will start at shortstop and is batting eighth in the lineup, while 2B Aaron Hill will start at second base and is batting seventh in the lineup.
Fantasy Tip: Ahmed ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) likely will return to the starting lineup in the next game or two. Hill ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) is hitting a solid .265 with one home run and nine RBI this month and could be a cheaper starting option to consider.
Wed, 26 Aug 2015 15:36:11 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Tomas ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) is in an outfield rotation with David Peralta ($4,800, 9.6% of cap), A.J. Pollock ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) and Ender Inciarte ($3,900, 7.8% of cap), and Tomas appears to be playing primarily against lefties. Tomas' seasonal value is fading, too, as he has posted a .238/.252/.356 slash line sine the All-Star break.
Wed, 26 Aug 2015 15:32:17 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Hill ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) has been slightly better in August with a .277 batting average, eight runs, a home runs and nine RBI over 75 plate appearances. Still, he shouldn't be viewed as anything more than a lineup flier at FantasyScore Wednesday.

Arizona Diamondbacks C Welington Castillo is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, Aug. 26. C Jarrod Saltalamacchia is starting behind the plate and batting seventh against St. Louis Cardinals SP John Lackey Wednesday.
Fantasy Tip: Castillo ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) has 15 home runs and 36 RBI with a .272/.349/.576 slash line over 55 games with Arizona, and should be owned in all formats at this stage. Saltalamacchia ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) is a potential value play at FantasyScore Wednesday, as he'll open up plenty of cap space.
Tue, 25 Aug 2015 15:46:19 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Tomas ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) is never really a bad FantasyScore selection when he's playing, and he has a slash line of .284/.326/.477 with three of his eight home runs against southpaws in 2015. However, you may want to temper expectations tonight against Garcia, who has pitched very effectively in his limited action this year.
Tue, 25 Aug 2015 15:39:19 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Hill ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) can be effective as a sleeper in the right spots, and he's hitting a bit better against lefties this year, although he only has one of his five home runs against them. Plus, Garcia has been lights out when healthy and on the mound for St. Louis. There's not a ton to like about Hill tonight.
Tue, 25 Aug 2015 15:15:12 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Chacin gave up two earned runs and struck out five in 6 1/3 innings in a loss to the St. Louis Cardinals Monday night in a pretty impressive performance, all things considered. Don't expect results that solid in his next outing, and he's a deep sleeper on FantasyScore only worth taking a chance on in a really juicy matchup.
Mon, 24 Aug 2015 16:02:13 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Be prepared to avoid Goldschmidt ($6,400, 12.8% of cap) for a couple of days in the near future.
Mon, 24 Aug 2015 14:57:56 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Hill ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) has a .223/.301/.355 slash line against righties this season, so he is a low-end fantasy option in all formats Monday, especially at FantasyScore. Ahmed ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) doesn't warrant a roster spot outside of NL-only and cavernous mixed seasonal leagues.
Mon, 24 Aug 2015 14:50:57 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Tomas ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) splits time in the outfield with A.J. Pollock ($6,300, 12.6% of cap), David Peralta ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) and Ender Inciarte ($3,900, 7.8% of cap), and all four are worth roster spots in the majority of seasonal leagues. Arizona faces Lance Lynn ($7,800, 15.6% of cap) Monday, though, so it isn't likely the best spot to target Diamondbacks at FantasyScore.
Mon, 24 Aug 2015 14:17:25 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Ray ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) in all fantasy formats Monday, but especially at FantasyScore. Chacin should be viewed as a risky start in all fantasy formats Monday. While he has done well at Class AAA Reno this season with a 3.39 ERA over 12 starts, it is a daunting matchup. Expect Ray to start against St. Louis Tuesday, Aug. 25, which also isn't a great spot for the lefty.
Mon, 24 Aug 2015 09:45:07 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Bradley ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) should already be owned in most keeper and dynasty formats, but he could become useful to owners in deep mixed leagues if he rejoins Arizona when rosters expand next week and re-enters the starting rotation. Just know that the D-backs are likely to be very cautious with him.
