Braves | Mike Foltynewicz to rehab Thursday

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 20:02:46 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Mike Foltynewicz (elbow) will make what is expected to be his final minor-league rehab start for Class AAA Gwinnett Thursday, June 30.

Fantasy Tip: Foltynewicz might be back in early July, but it's uncertain if he'll be back in the rotation, long relief, etc. With the team's injury issues in the starting rotation, he is likely to be slotted back in, but he remains nothing more than an option in the deepest of NL-only fantasy formats.

Braves | Matt Wisler sets career high

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 20:02:18 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Matt Wisler allowed two earned runs, six hits and two walks while posting a career-high nine strikeouts in a no-decision Tuesday, June 28, against the Cleveland Indians. He threw 67 of his 98 pitches for strikes in a quality start.

Fantasy Tip: Wisler has been sharp over his past three outings, all quality starts. He also has nine quality starts over his past 11 outings dating back to April 26. Run support is always a problem, but he is a decent NL-only play in deeper leagues and a DFS bargain when the matchup is favorable.

Braves | Jace Peterson reaches the seats

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 20:01:55 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Jace Peterson cracked a solo home run in four at-bats Tuesday, June 28, against the Cleveland Indians to push his hitting streak to nine games.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson is hitting .316 (12-for-38) with four runs scored, two homers and four RBIs during his nine-game run. He is still only worth a look in deeper NL-only fantasy leagues and as a salary saver in DFS play.

Braves | Joel De La Cruz to start Wednesday

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 19:38:27 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Joel De La Cruz will start Wednesday, June 29, against the Cleveland Indians, making his Major League debut in place of the demoted SP Aaron Blair.

Fantasy Tip: De La Cruz posted a 4.68 ERA and 1.49 WHIP in 57 2/3 innings for Class AAA Gwinnett, so don't look to him as a savior off the waiver wire in NL-only fantasy leagues or DFS.

Indians | Rajai Davis sitting vs. Braves

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 13:03:09 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Rajai Davis is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, June 28. 1B Carlos Santana is leading off against Atlanta Braves SP Matt Wisler Tuesday.

Fantasy Tip: Davis is having a rebound fantasy season because of his added playing time and returned 36 runs, seven home runs, 28 RBI and 21 stolen bases with a .263/.328/.409. The speed alone makes him a viable option in all fantasy leagues. Santana receives a slight boost in daily contests Tuesday, but otherwise, there isn't a significant fantasy impact to Santana leading off. He should be viewed as a low-end starter at first base in the majority of formats.

Braves | John Gant placed on the DL

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 12:08:04 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP John Gant (oblique) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a left oblique strain Tuesday, June 28. In a corresponding move, RP Casey Kelly was recalled from Class AAA Gwinnett.

Fantasy Tip: Gant has looked the part of a viable starting pitcher in cavernous mixed and NL-only formats with a 3.38 ERA, a 1.18 WHIP and a 8.2 K/9 through his three outings. However, he isn't a must-stash hurler given his small track record. Stay tuned for who will replace him in the rotation.

Braves | Emilio Bonifacio batting eighth

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 12:01:46 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Emilio Bonifacio is starting in left field and batting eighth against Cleveland Indians SP Corey Kluber Tuesday, June 28.

Fantasy Tip: Bonifacio has been a fantasy non-factor since his promotion back to the big leagues, but he owns plus-speed, which makes him an intriguing asset in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues. Against Kluber Tuesday, though, Bonifacio is a desperation fantasy option in all setups.

Braves | Bud Norris drawing trade interest

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 11:43:07 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Bud Norris is drawing interest from other teams after he allowed four hits and struck out eight in seven innings against the New York Mets. Norris is 2-1 with a 2.15 ERA in his last five starts.

Fantasy Tip: The trade deadline is quickly approaching at the end of July, and the Braves will assuredly be sellers. Norris has been great of late and has a 4.22 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 7.7 K/9 on the season in 22 outings (10 starts). His fantasy value is limited to matchup play in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues, but a trade to a contending team would surely make him more attractive.

Braves | John Gant leaves start early

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 19:33:27 -0700

Updating a previous report, Atlanta Braves SP John Gant (oblique) suffered a strained left oblique muscle in his start Monday, June 27, against the Cleveland Indians. Gant will be re-assessed Tuesday, June 28.

Fantasy Tip: Gant has started to show progress over his past couple of starts, so hopefully he isn't sidelined for a long period. We'll likely have a more definitive answer on his timetable Tuesday.

Braves | John Gant leaves start Monday

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 16:56:07 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP John Gant (oblique) had to leave his start Monday, June 27, versus the Cleveland Indians after experiencing discomfort following a pitch made to SP Trevor Bauer. He departed with one runner on and nobody out in the top of the third inning. SP Tyrell Jenkins came in to replace him.

Fantasy Tip: Hopefully this doesn't turn out to be something that sidelines Gant for an extended period, as he's actually looked pretty decent since entering the rotation after beginning the year in the bullpen. If Gant has to miss any time, Jenkins, a top prospect, would be one of the lead candidates to take his spot. He's worth stashing in NL-only leagues for his potential if this is indeed the case.

Braves | Matt Wisler regressing

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 16:25:19 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Matt Wisler has a 7.59 ERA in his last four starts in 21 1/3 innings and opponents have a .392 on-base percentage with 31 hits (seven home runs), and he's walked nine batters and struck out 13 in that span. He had a 3.16 ERA and opponents had a .265 on-base percentage against him in his first 11 games (10 starts).

Fantasy Tip: Wisler has limited major league experience in just his second season, so the ups and downs should be expected from his fantasy owners. He's one of Atlanta's more promising arms in the rotation, though, and he's improved his BB/9 (2.6) and K/9 (6.1) from last season. Facing the Indians Tuesday, you should be very careful using Wisler in your starting lineups tomorrow evening after the way he's pitched of late.

Braves | Atlanta resting two players

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 14:00:33 -0700

Atlanta Braves C A.J. Pierzynski and OF Emilio Bonifacio are not in the starting lineup against Cleveland Indians SP Trevor Bauer Monday, June 27. C Tyler Flowers will start in catcher and is batting sixth in the lineup, while OF Brandon Snyder will start in left field and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Flowers is hitting .211 with two home runs and three RBI this month but does have three hits in his last two games. Flowers will have value in two-catcher leagues, but owners in other leagues should find better options. Snyder has gone 4-for-15 since joining the Braves but is not a strong option.

Braves | Gordon Beckham a week away

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 13:26:24 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Gordon Beckham (hamstring) started his rehab assignment in the minors and went 0-for-3 Monday, June 27. Manager Brian Snitker said Beckham is around a week away from returning from the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Whenever Beckham is ready, he should return to regular playing time at either second or third base for Atlanta. He has played well for the Braves this year with a .284/.382/.442 slash line, but he's mainly an NL-only asset as middle and corner infield depth because of his lack of power on a weak-hitting team.

Braves | Bud Norris has terrific outing

Sun, 26 Jun 2016 16:20:12 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Bud Norris pitched seven scoreless innings against the New York Mets Sunday, June 26, to pick up his fourth win of the season. He allowed four hits during the game, while striking out eight batters.

Fantasy Tip: Norris has allowed seven runs in his last five starts and has lowered his ERA to 4.22. He is scheduled to face the Miami Marlins in his next start and can be a decent option in daily fantasy leagues.

Braves | Adonis Garcia drives in three

Sun, 26 Jun 2016 16:07:58 -0700

Atlanta Braves 3B Adonis Garcia went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI against the New York Mets Sunday, June 26.

Fantasy Tip: Garcia has recorded at least one hit in eight of the last 10 games and nine RBI during that span. He could be a sleeper option in daily fantasy leagues while he on his hot streak.
