Braves | Jim Johnson records save Friday

Fri, 03 Jul 2015 19:43:29 -0700

Atlanta Braves RP Jim Johnson recorded his fifth save of the season against the Philadelphia Phillies Friday, July 3. He allowed two hits in one scoreless inning of work.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson appeared in a save situation Friday because CL Jason Grilli had pitched in each of the team's previous two games. Johnson is worth keeping in NL-only and deeper mixed fantasy leagues that use the holds category and would become Atlanta's full-time closer if Grilli were to get injured.

Braves | Julio Teheran continues home dominance

Fri, 03 Jul 2015 19:28:24 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Julio Teheran (6-4) allowed one unearned run on seven hits over seven innings in a victory over the Philadelphia Phillies Friday, jUl 3. He walked three and struck out four.

Fantasy Tip: Teheran ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) improved to 5-0 with a 2.04 ERA through eight starts at home this season. On the road, he is 1-4 with a 7.40 ERA in nine starts. His next start will come on the road against the Milwaukee Brewers next week, so you'll probably want to avoid using him in FantasyScore.

Braves | Manny Banuelos on an innings limit?

Fri, 03 Jul 2015 17:49:58 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Manny Banuelos (dehydration) is believed to be on an innings limit this year, due to the fact that he returned from Tommy John surgery last season. The limit is estimated to be between 120 and 130 innings and Banuelos has already tossed 88 2/3 innings this season, including his time with Class AAA Gwinnett. Manager Fredi Gonzalez said no shutdown date has been determined.

Fantasy Tip: Banuelos ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) could be moved to the bullpen after the All-Star break in an attempt to limit his innings, when SP Williams Perez (foot) is activated from the disabled list. For now, he will remain in the rotation and will face the lowly Milwaukee Brewers Tuesday, July 7.

Braves | Jonny Gomes batting sixth

Fri, 03 Jul 2015 12:27:35 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Jonny Gomes is playing left field and batting six against Philadelphia Phillies SP Adam Morgan Friday, July 3.

Fantasy Tip: Gomes ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) has a .420 on-base percentage against southpaws this season, and he has historically had success against lefties. FantasyScore players should view Gomes as a low-end flier for contests Friday. His seasonal value is minimal, even in NL-only and cavernous mixed leagues.

Braves | A.J. Pierzynski sitting vs. lefty

Fri, 03 Jul 2015 12:20:05 -0700

Atlanta Braves C A.J. Pierzynski is not in the starting lineup Friday, July 3. C Ryan Lavarnway is starting behind the plate and batting eighth against Philadelphia Phillies SP Adam Morgan Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Lavarnway ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has drawn in against southpaws recently, and he projects a low-end catcher option for FantasyScore players Friday. Similarly, in seasonal leagues, Pierzynski ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) checks out as bottom-tier catcher in NL-only, cavernous mixed and two-catcher formats. Over his last 81 plate appearances, Pierzynski has an underwhelming .256/.284/.397 slash line.

Braves | Manny Banuelos exits due to cramps

Fri, 03 Jul 2015 00:01:31 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Manny Banuelos (dehydration) left his start Thursday, July 2, due to cramping and dehydration.

Fantasy Tip: Banuelos was brilliant allowing just two hits and fanning seven in 5 2/3 shutout frames. He's a fringe pickup in mixed leagues and might be a target on FantasyScore if he's up for another start.

Braves | Still no timeline for Freddie Freeman

Thu, 02 Jul 2015 14:19:22 -0700

Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman (wrist) said his bone bruise is responding well to treatment, but the ligaments are still inflamed. Freeman added he will begin a new treatment, and that there is still no timetable for his return.

Fantasy Tip: Kelly Johnson ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) has started the past two games at first base, and Joey Terdoslavich ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) and Chris Johnson ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) have also seen time at first. All in all, it is an underwhelming group, and FantasyScore players should aim higher. Seasonal owners should continue to be patient with Freeman.

Nationals | Ian Desmond sitting vs. Braves

Thu, 02 Jul 2015 13:49:59 -0700

Washington Nationals SS Ian Desmond is not in the starting lineup Thursday, July 2. 2B Dan Uggla is playing second base and batting sixth, and 2B Danny Espinosa is batting second and filling in at shortstop against Atlanta Braves SP Manny Banuelos Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Desmond ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) is reeling through an extremely disappointing season, and he cannot be started with confidence in daily contests. His year-long value is dwindling, too. Espinosa ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) continues to be a high-risk, high-reward FantasyScore play, but there is upside hitting second. Uggla ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) has a .696 OPS through 94 plate appearances this season, so he is nothing more than a low-priced flier for daily games Thursday.

Braves | Juan Uribe on power streak

Thu, 02 Jul 2015 09:48:03 -0700

Atlanta Braves 3B Juan Uribe has hit three homers in the last four games and is hitting .400 in that span.

Fantasy Tip: Here comes the fine print. Uribe ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) and the Braves face Max Scherzer tonight. However, he's a great play on FantasyScore any other day!

Braves | Manny Banuelos recalled

Thu, 02 Jul 2015 06:28:12 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Manny Banuelos was recalled from Class AAA Gwinnett to face the Washington Nationals Thursday, July 2.

Fantasy Tip: Banuelos has a tough draw today, so give him a start to show what he has before using him on FantasyScore.

Braves | Eury Perez draws into lineup

Wed, 01 Jul 2015 14:55:55 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Eury Perez is starting in left field and hitting eighth against Washington Nationals SP Doug Fister Wednesday, July 1. OF Kelly Johnson is receiving the start at first base.

Fantasy Tip: Perez ($1,700, 3.4% of cap), who has eight hits in 28 at-bats (.286) is strictly a source of salary cap relief as a deep sleeper on FantasyScore. Johnson ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) is a midrange outfield commodity in daily games, and all six of his home runs have come against righties this year. However, Fister is a ground-ball pitcher, leaving Johnson with limited upside tonight.

Braves | Shelby Miller fans 10 in losing effort

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 20:28:08 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Shelby Miller struck out 10 batters over five innings while allowing five runs -- four earned -- on eight hits and three walks during the Braves 6-1 loss to the Washington Nationals Tuesday, June 30.

Fantasy Tip: Miller ($8,500, 17.0% of cap) has gone eight starts without a win, and he was last victorious Sunday, May 17. Before his hiccup Tuesday, Miller had a 2.70 ERA over his previous seven outings, so he has been a tough-luck loser. The lack of wins hurts in all formats.

Nationals | Jordan Zimmermann stingy vs. Braves

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 20:24:15 -0700

Washington Nationals SP Jordan Zimmermann struck out six batters over 7 2/3 scoreless innings while allowing just six hits and no walks during the Nationals' 6-1 win over the Atlanta Braves Tuesday, June 30.

Fantasy Tip: Zimmermann ($7,700, 15.4% of cap) hasn't allowed a run over his past two starts, and his ERA is down to 3.16 for the season. He is an excellent No. 2 starter in seasonal formats, and while in a groove, FantasyScore players can turn to him with confidence. Just note, he isn't a high-strikeout arm consistently, so there is an upside hit there.

Braves | Manny Banuelos expected to start Thursday

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 16:55:58 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Manny Banuelos is expected to be called up from Class AAA Gwinnett in order to make his major league debut and start against the Washington Nationals Thursday, July 2. He'll be facing Nationals SP Max Scherzer. Banuelos, a lefty, was 6-2 with a 2.29 ERA and a .215 opponents' average against in 15 starts for Gwinnett. He struck out 69, walked 38 and allowed just two home runs in 82 2/3 frames. The Braves are expected to limit Banuelos' innings to 120 to 130 this year after he came back from Tommy John surgery last year. He could make just a start or two in place of SP Williams Perez (foot) before he returns from the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Banuelos is worth a look in NL-only and deep mixed leagues, but don't spend too much of your FAAB money on him since his stay in the majors could be short. At FantasyScore, it'd be unwise to use him right off the bat against the Nationals Thursday.

Braves | Freddie Freeman not improving

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 13:20:54 -0700

Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman (wrist) won't be ready to come off the disabled list when he's eligible Friday, July 3, according to manager Fredi Gonzalez. Freeman's wrist hasn't been improving.

Fantasy Tip: You'll have to stay patient with Freeman and keep him stashed in a DL spot. Joey Terdoslavich ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) and Chris Johnson ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) will likely continue splitting time at first in the meantime, but neither should be fantasy options aside from in the deepest of leagues.
