Atlanta Braves news, rumors and injuries

Atlanta Braves SP Bud Norris is drawing interest from other teams after he allowed four hits and struck out eight in seven innings against the New York Mets. Norris is 2-1 with a 2.15 ERA in his last five starts.
Fantasy Tip: The trade deadline is quickly approaching at the end of July, and the Braves will assuredly be sellers. Norris has been great of late and has a 4.22 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 7.7 K/9 on the season in 22 outings (10 starts). His fantasy value is limited to matchup play in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues, but a trade to a contending team would surely make him more attractive.

Updating a previous report, Atlanta Braves SP John Gant (oblique) suffered a strained left oblique muscle in his start Monday, June 27, against the Cleveland Indians. Gant will be re-assessed Tuesday, June 28.
Fantasy Tip: Gant has started to show progress over his past couple of starts, so hopefully he isn't sidelined for a long period. We'll likely have a more definitive answer on his timetable Tuesday.

Atlanta Braves SP John Gant (oblique) had to leave his start Monday, June 27, versus the Cleveland Indians after experiencing discomfort following a pitch made to SP Trevor Bauer. He departed with one runner on and nobody out in the top of the third inning. SP Tyrell Jenkins came in to replace him.
Fantasy Tip: Hopefully this doesn't turn out to be something that sidelines Gant for an extended period, as he's actually looked pretty decent since entering the rotation after beginning the year in the bullpen. If Gant has to miss any time, Jenkins, a top prospect, would be one of the lead candidates to take his spot. He's worth stashing in NL-only leagues for his potential if this is indeed the case.

Atlanta Braves SP Matt Wisler has a 7.59 ERA in his last four starts in 21 1/3 innings and opponents have a .392 on-base percentage with 31 hits (seven home runs), and he's walked nine batters and struck out 13 in that span. He had a 3.16 ERA and opponents had a .265 on-base percentage against him in his first 11 games (10 starts).
Fantasy Tip: Wisler has limited major league experience in just his second season, so the ups and downs should be expected from his fantasy owners. He's one of Atlanta's more promising arms in the rotation, though, and he's improved his BB/9 (2.6) and K/9 (6.1) from last season. Facing the Indians Tuesday, you should be very careful using Wisler in your starting lineups tomorrow evening after the way he's pitched of late.

Atlanta Braves C A.J. Pierzynski and OF Emilio Bonifacio are not in the starting lineup against Cleveland Indians SP Trevor Bauer Monday, June 27. C Tyler Flowers will start in catcher and is batting sixth in the lineup, while OF Brandon Snyder will start in left field and is batting seventh.
Fantasy Tip: Flowers is hitting .211 with two home runs and three RBI this month but does have three hits in his last two games. Flowers will have value in two-catcher leagues, but owners in other leagues should find better options. Snyder has gone 4-for-15 since joining the Braves but is not a strong option.

Atlanta Braves 2B Gordon Beckham (hamstring) started his rehab assignment in the minors and went 0-for-3 Monday, June 27. Manager Brian Snitker said Beckham is around a week away from returning from the disabled list.
Fantasy Tip: Whenever Beckham is ready, he should return to regular playing time at either second or third base for Atlanta. He has played well for the Braves this year with a .284/.382/.442 slash line, but he's mainly an NL-only asset as middle and corner infield depth because of his lack of power on a weak-hitting team.

Atlanta Braves SP Bud Norris pitched seven scoreless innings against the New York Mets Sunday, June 26, to pick up his fourth win of the season. He allowed four hits during the game, while striking out eight batters.
Fantasy Tip: Norris has allowed seven runs in his last five starts and has lowered his ERA to 4.22. He is scheduled to face the Miami Marlins in his next start and can be a decent option in daily fantasy leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Garcia has recorded at least one hit in eight of the last 10 games and nine RBI during that span. He could be a sleeper option in daily fantasy leagues while he on his hot streak.

The Atlanta Braves have signed Shenendehowa High School P Ian Anderson, the No. 3 pick overall in the 2016 MLB draft. He will receive a $4 million signing bonus, which is below the suggested slot value of $6,510,800.
Fantasy Tip: The 18-year-old Anderson will report to the organization's Rookie-level Gulf Coast League affiliate. He features a fastball that has been clocked as high as 96 mph, as well as an above-average changeup and curveball. Owners in dynasty leagues should keep tabs on Anderson's progress throughout the minors.

Atlanta Braves OF Jeff Francoeur is back in the starting lineup against New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon Sunday, June 26, batting seventh and playing left field. In addition, C A.J. Pierzynski is batting sixth and starting behind the plate, while INF Chase d'Arnaud is batting eighth and playing shortstop. C Tyler Flowers and SS Erick Aybar are receiving the day off.
Fantasy Tip: D'Arnaud is batting .257 with five doubles and five RBI in 74 at-bats this month and could be a productive source of cap relief in DFS. Pierzynski is only batting .195 this month but is a lifetime .277 hitter versus Colon in 65 at-bats, with three doubles, two home runs and five RBI.
Sun, 26 Jun 2016 07:25:25 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Aybar has turned it around in June with a .300/.391/.425 line, but it has only resulted in four runs and four RBI. He is a desperation starting option in deep formats. D'Arnaud offers little in the power department (.371 slugging percentage), but he sits with a .282 batting average and .360 on-base percentage, which makes him a viable depth piece in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues.

Atlanta Braves SP Julio Teheran allowed five and struck out seven over eight scoreless innings in a no-decision against the New York Mets Saturday, June 25, and he has allowed a combined six hits over 17 scoreless innings in his last two starts against the Mets.
Fantasy Tip: Teheran continued his strong season, and the only blemish is a 3-7 that can be attributed to Atlanta's lackluster offense. If he is moved to a contender before the deadline, he will become an even more attractive fantasy option, especially in DFS formats.

Fantasy Tip: Blair was roughed up for eight runs in 4 1/3 frames Friday and has a 7.99 ERA through 11 big-league starts, so the 24-year-old has some work to do. Marksberry gave up a run in two-thirds of an inning back in April in his only appearance with Atlanta. Both players are well off the fantasy radar.
Fri, 24 Jun 2016 21:09:04 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Blair's ERA sits an ugly 7.99, and the 24-year-old can be left on waivers in just about every format.
Fri, 24 Jun 2016 13:39:10 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Cespedes missed the game Thursday, June 23, to rest his injured left wrist. He remains a solid starter in all fantasy formats, but you might not want to start him in daily contests Friday.
