Braves | A.J. Pierzynski out of lineup Tuesday

Tue, 24 May 2016 13:25:38 -0700

Atlanta Braves C A.J. Pierzynski is not starting Tuesday, May 24, against the Milwaukee Brewers. C Tyler Flowers is batting fifth against Brewers SP Jimmy Nelson.

Fantasy Tip: Flowers has seen the majority of the action this week, but this still looks like a true platoon. In his past 10 at-bats Flowers has two doubles and a home run, so he has demonstrated some slugging tendencies. The platoon situation makes Flowers less desirable in weekly or annual leagues, but DFS players should take advantage.

Braves | Julio Teheran chugs Brewers

Tue, 24 May 2016 09:39:10 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Julio Teheran is 2-0 with a 1.57 ERA, a .128 opponents' batting average and 24 strikeouts to six walks in 23 innings in his last three starts against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Fantasy Tip: He's not getting the run support, but he has been decent with a 2.73 ERA, a 1.11 WHIP and a 7.55 K/9 this season. Teheran is an upper-middle start at home today.

Braves | Kelly Johnson, Erick Aybar out

Sun, 22 May 2016 09:47:25 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Kelly Johnson and SS Erick Aybar are not in the starting lineup against Philadelphia Phillies SP Jerad Eickhoff Sunday, May 22. 3B Gordon Beckham will start at second base, while SS Chase d'Arnaud will start at third base and is batting second. 2B Daniel Castro will start at shortstop and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Castro has been pretty quiet over the past week, while d'Arnaud has posted a .474 batting average during the same span. Owners probably can pass on Castro in most leagues, but d'Arnaud can be a sleeper option in some daily fantasy leagues.

Braves | Casey Kelly to receive Sunday start

Sat, 21 May 2016 15:27:45 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Casey Kelly will start Sunday, May 22, against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Fantasy Tip: The former prime prospect has bounced around in recent years, but he has been solid at Class AAA Gwinnett with a 2.63 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP in seven outings (five starts). He has walked 20 batters in 37 2/3 innings, but his WHIP is still very good because he's missing bats. He's not a real solid streamer in DFS, and it's best to take a wait-and-see approach.

Braves | Arodys Vizcaino nails down fifth save

Sat, 21 May 2016 15:18:40 -0700

Atlanta Braves RP Arodys Vizcaino struck out a pair during a perfect ninth inning Saturday, May 21, to slam the door on the Philadelphia Phillies.

Fantasy Tip: Two saves in four days represents a windfall for Vizcaino, who notched only three over the Braves' first 38 outings. It'd be a minor shock if he isn't a top target for teams at the trade deadline this season and is sporting a 1.45 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 26:7 strikeout-to-walk ratio thus far, but Atlanta might see the 25-year-old as part of the core group of players it wants to hold on to during its rebuilding process. He's a low-end fantasy closer given his lack of save chances, but worth keeping in lineups nonetheless.

Braves | Several ATL regulars resting Saturday

Sat, 21 May 2016 11:00:30 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Kelly Johnson, C A.J. Pierzynski, OF Mallex Smith are not in the starting lineup against Philadelphia Phillies SP Adam Morgan Saturday, May 21. INF Chase d'Arnaud will bat leadoff and play third base, INF Gordon Beckham will bat second and play second base, OF Jeff Francoeur will play left field and bat cleanup, C Tyler Flowers will start behind the plate and bat sixth and OF Ender Inciarte will bat seventh and play center field.

Fantasy Tip: The Braves are facing a left-handed pitcher this afternoon, which explains why several of their left-handed-hitting position players are on the bench. Beckham and d'Arnaud are a combined 30-for-86 (.349) this season and should be viewed as productive sources of salary cap relief in DFS.

Braves | Nick Markakis hits first homer Friday

Fri, 20 May 2016 19:56:19 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer and a walk against the Philadelphia Phillies Friday, May 20. The home run was his first of 2016 and came in his 151st at-bat of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Markakis is batting less than .200 in May and the home run was just his second extra-base hit of the month in more than 60 at-bats. He should be avoided in all fantasy formats until he can string together several productive performances.

Braves | Matt Wisler solid against Phils Friday

Fri, 20 May 2016 19:48:21 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Matt Wisler (2-3) allowed one run on five hits over 6 2/3 innings in a victory over the Philadelphia Phillies Friday, May 20, with two walks and seven strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Wisler has tossed quality starts in six of his last seven outings and would have had a much better record if he had decent run support. He has a very favorable matchup for his next outing against the Milwaukee Brewers Thursday, May 26, and is worth considering as a value play in daily fantasy contests.

Braves | Freddie Freeman homers twice Friday

Fri, 20 May 2016 19:43:35 -0700

Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman went 2-for-5 with two home runs and four RBI against the Philadelphia Phillies Friday, May 20.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman had collected just five hits in his previous 29 at-bats before connecting for his first homer of the game in the third inning. His ninth-inning blast gave him the seventh multihomer game of his career. This could be the start of Freeman breaking out of his slump, so he's worth considering for daily fantasy lineups.

Braves | Erick Aybar back in starting lineup

Fri, 20 May 2016 12:39:06 -0700

Atlanta Braves SS Erick Aybar (throat) is back in the starting lineup and is hitting seventh against Philadelphia Phillies SP Aaron Nola Friday, May 20.

Fantasy Tip: You're best off avoiding Aybar in all fantasy formats after the way he's started the year. He has a .174/.207/.205 line with no home runs, five RBI and only two stolen bases. Aybar has been pretty useless to fantasy owners.

Braves | Nick Markakis in cleanup spot

Fri, 20 May 2016 12:34:26 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis is hitting cleanup against Philadelphia Phillies SP Aaron Nola Friday, May 20. 2B Gordon Beckham is playing third base and moves up to the No. 2 spot in the batting order.

Fantasy Tip: Markakis, who has no home runs on the year, isn't your prototypical cleanup hitter. In a weak Atlanta lineup, the move to fourth doesn't really do anything to increase his fantasy value. He remains a weak option for outfield depth in deeper mixed and NL-only leagues. Beckham has hit .333 but also has no home runs and eight RBI. The move to the two-hole is good for his daily value, but he, too, doesn't move the fantasy needle all that much.

Braves | Mike Foltynewicz struggles Thursday

Thu, 19 May 2016 19:10:57 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Mike Foltynewicz (1-2) allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits over three innings in a loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates Thursday, May 19. He had no walks and one strikeout.

Fantasy Tip: Foltynewicz was unable to duplicate the success he had in his last outing against the Kansas City Royals Saturday, May 14, when he tossed eight scoreless innings. He's only worth rostering in deep NL-only seasonal leagues and should only be used in DFS when the matchup is extremely favorable.

Braves | Casey Kelly could start Sunday

Thu, 19 May 2016 18:09:24 -0700

Atlanta Braves P Casey Kelly is likely to receive the start against the Philadelphia Phillies Sunday, May 22. P John Gant had been under consideration to start before he was needed for a relief appearance against the Thursday, May 19.

Fantasy Tip: Kelly, a former first-round draft choice of the Boston Red Sox, went 2-1 with a 2.63 ERA in seven appearances (five starts) for Class AAA Gwinnett, with 20 walks and 29 strikeouts in 37 2/3 innings. The 26-year-old right-hander allowed one run on two hits over three innings in his only MLB appearance this season but isn't a solid fantasy option at this point, despite the Phils' offensive struggles.

Braves | Routine day off for Ender Inciarte

Thu, 19 May 2016 14:19:03 -0700

Updating a previous report, Atlanta Braves OF Ender Inciarte is receiving a routine day off Thursday, May 19, according to manager Brian Snitker.

Fantasy Tip: Inciarte is off to a slow start since returning from his hamstring injury with a .232/.295/.250 slash line and zero stolen bases. He should kick-start a hot stretch here sooner or later, but Inciarte is nothing more than a low-end starter in the majority of yearly setups.

Braves | Erik Aybar sustains unique injury

Thu, 19 May 2016 13:59:48 -0700

Updating a previous report, Atlanta Braves SS Erick Aybar (throat) got a chicken bone stuck in his throat eating lunch, and he had to be sedated by a physician to have the bone removed.

Fantasy Tip: This likely won't keep Aybar out of the lineup longer than his Thursday absence, but you'll want to check back for any updates. Light-hitting Daniel Castro (.207 batting average this season) is filling in for Aybar Thursday, and Castro stands to handle the 6, if Aybar misses additional time.
