Braves | Nick Markakis drives in three Thursday

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 19:57:34 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis went 4-for-5 with a double and three RBI in a victory over the Boston Red Sox Thursday, April 28.

Fantasy Tip: Markakis leads the National League in doubles (10) and is batting .305 through his first 22 games of the season, although he is still looking for his first home run of the year. He could be useful to owners in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues who want to improve their batting average.

Braves | Jhoulys Chacin earns victory Thursday

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 19:46:08 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Jhoulys Chacin (1-1) allowed two runs on six hits over five innings in a victory over the Boston Red Sox Thursday, April 28, with two walks and four strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Chacin is a decent option for owners in NL-only fantasy leagues and is worth considering as a value play for daily contests, with 23 strikeouts through 22 innings over his first four starts. He is scheduled to make his next start against the New York Mets Tuesday, May 3.

Braves | Jhoulys Chacin looks to stay hot

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 21:34:09 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Jhoulys Chacin is scheduled to start Thursday, April 28, against the Boston Red Sox. He has allowed three earned runs or fewer in each of his past three starts.

Fantasy Tip: Chacin has emerged as a solid NL-only fantasy league option, but mixed leaguers still need to see a little bit more before taking a chance on him. Chacin has also served as a nice DFS value to this point.

Braves | Freddie Freeman ends HR drought

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 21:33:35 -0700

Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman went 2-for-4 with a double and a solo home run with two run scored Wednesday, April 27, against the Boston Red Sox.

Fantasy Tip: It was Freeman's first homer since opening day. This is more what fantasy owners expected to see from Freeman. His batting average is up to .219, which isn't great, but he is slowly starting to round into form. Be patient.

Braves | Adonis Garcia will be DH

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 14:30:54 -0700

Atlanta Braves 3B Adonis Garcia will serve as the designated hitter against Boston Red Sox SP Steven Wright Wednesday, April 27. SS Daniel Castro will start at third base, while 2B Kelly Johnson will start at second base and is batting seventh in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson has recorded three hits in his last six games and is hitting .179 this season. Owners should be able to find better players for their lineups and can avoid Johnson.

Braves | Jeff Francoeur, Drew Stubbs in lineup

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 14:08:18 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Jeff Francoeur and OF Drew Stubbs are in the starting lineup against Boston Red Sox SP Steven Wright Wednesday, April 27. Francoeur will start in left field and is batting fifth, while Stubbs will start in center field and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Francoeur has picked up at least one hit in five of his last six games with two RBI during that span. Stubbs has recorded five hits in his last 11 games but did go 2-for-3 in his last game. Francoeur likely is more valuable than Stubbs in most leagues and could be a desperation option for owners in daily fantasy leagues. Owners should avoid Stubbs in most leagues.

Braves | Erick Aybar to lose playing time?

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 16:22:20 -0700

Atlanta Braves SS Erick Aybar, who is hitting only .134 on the year and .043 (1-for-23) against lefties, will likely move to second base for some games in the near future. Manager Fredi Gonzalez wants to give SS Daniel Castro some time at shortstop. Aybar started 35 games at second in 2007 as a rookie, but he played only two innings there in 2008 and hasn't played there since.

Fantasy Tip: Aybar is a slap hitter that never has had much offensive prowess, so his fantasy value should've already been limited to NL-only leagues. Castro is a defensive specialist, too, so his ownership should be limited to the same formats for now.

Braves | Freddie Freeman hitting cleanup

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 12:07:52 -0700

Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman is hitting fourth Tuesday, April 26, against the Boston Red Sox.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman had been hitting third, but in the past week he had a .241 average and only one run batted in. Adonis Garcia is hitting .360 and has moved up to the third spot. Freeman is slowly getting untracked and should start hitting soon. He had a .276-18-66 line last season. For now, be wary of Freeman in your fantasy lineup.

Braves | Julio Teheran is hard-luck loser

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 21:12:30 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Julio Teheran allowed just one earned run, six hits and three walks over seven innings with eight strikeouts in a loss Monday, April 25, against the Boston Red Sox.

Fantasy Tip: Teheran slipped to 0-3 on the season, but he is still not a terrible fantasy option, especially at home. He is 0-2 with a 3.63 ERA with two quality starts in four home outings. Just beware if you use him in fantasy leagues and DFS that he doesn't get a ton of run support. In five starts the Braves have provided a total of 10 runs, all losses.

Braves | Gordon Beckham begins running

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 14:55:16 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Gordon Beckham (hamstring) began running Monday, April 25, and he will begin extended-spring training games Tuesday, April 26.

Fantasy Tip: Beckham has limited fantasy value because he will only see occasional to semi-regular at-bats, and he is nothing more than a depth option in NL-only leagues. His return will likely cut into the playing time of Kelly Johnson, Jace Peterson and Daniel Castro, too, which makes them all low-end options across fantasy formats.

Braves | Ender Inciarte upping baseball activities

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 14:41:48 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Ender Inciarte (hamstring) will increase his running during extended-spring training games this week and could begin a rehab assignment by the end of the week.

Fantasy Tip: Inciarte hit .303 and stole 21 bases last season, and he projects to return similar numbers batting leadoff for Atlanta in 2016. Mallex Smith and Drew Stubbs will continue to have fleeting value in deep leagues until Inciarte returns. Stay tuned for updates.

Braves | Freddie Freeman dropped in order

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 13:48:38 -0700

Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman is being dropped to No. 6 in the batting order against Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello Monday, April 25.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman went 0-for-4 Sunday and is hitting only .177 (11-for-62) on the season, and he still hasn't homered since his first at-bat on opening day. His slow start has become a real concern now, especially after having offseason wrist surgery. Sit tight if you own him. He should be able to rebound if he's healthy, but the fact he hits in a weak lineup doesn't give much hope for those considering buying low.

Braves | Erick Aybar out again

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 13:44:18 -0700

Atlanta Braves SS Erick Aybar is out of the starting lineup again Monday, April 25. SS Daniel Castro is starting at shortstop again and is hitting second against Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello.

Fantasy Tip: Aybar has just nine hits in 66 at-bats (.136) and could continue to lose playing time at the 6. Only hang onto him for bench depth in NL-only affairs. Castro, on the other hand, has 12 hits in 35 at-bats (.343). However, he's more of a defensive-minded utility infielder for Atlanta and remains a low-end shortstop play in DFS action.

Braves | Mallex Smith, Drew Stubbs sharing center

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 13:40:54 -0700

Atlanta Braves OFs Mallex Smith and Drew Stubbs will start against right- and left-handed pitchers, respectively, until OF Ender Inciarte (hamstring) returns from the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Smith has the most fantasy value because of his speed, and the fact that his side of the platoon projects to yield more at-bats. However, Inciarte is approximately two weeks away from returning to the Braves, so Smith and Stubbs only have fleeting value in cavernous mixed and NL-only formats.

Braves | Adonis Garcia will see outfield starts

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 13:32:43 -0700

Atlanta Braves 3B Adonis Garcia will play left field against the majority of right-handed pitchers with 2B/OF Kelly Johnson, 2B Jace Peterson and SS Daniel Castro splitting time between second and third base. OF Jeff Francoeur will play left field against left-handed pitchers with Garcia playing third base.

Fantasy Tip: Garcia has a respectable .287/.320/.469 slash line through 269 career plate appearances, and he can provide solid depth in the majority of seasonal leagues. However, he also has just six runs and six RBI to start the season, so there is limited upside. Peterson, Johnson, Castro and Francoeur are nothing more than low-end options in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues.
