Orioles | Chris Davis hits against Boston

Mon, 27 Apr 2015 00:49:50 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 1B Chris Davis completed the Boston Red Sox series Sunday, April 26, having gone 5-for-11 with two home runs, a double, a walk and six runs batted in.

Fantasy Tip: Davis ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) had been off to a slow start, so this might help him regain some confidence. As long as his salary is lower, it is worth paying to put him in the lineup.

Orioles | Ryan Lavarnway starting at catcher

Sun, 26 Apr 2015 08:05:39 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Ryan Lavarnway will start behind the dish Sunday, April 26, against the Boston Red Sox.

Fantasy Tip: Lavarnway ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has just one hit through 14 plate appearances to begin the season. Lavarnway has hit .210 in 110 career plate appearances against left-handed pitchers, and he shouldn't be considered at all with Wade Miley on the mound for the Red Sox.

Orioles | Jimmy Paredes hitting third

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 13:45:55 -0700

Baltimore Orioles OF Jimmy Paredes is batting third as the designated hitter against the Boston Red Sox Friday, April 24.

Fantasy Tip: Paredes ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has a solid minor league track record, but it isn't anything spectacular, so don't read to much into his 7-for-20 start to the season. Still, he is hitting between the best two hitters on the team, so there is certainly fantasy potential. View Paredes as a nice source of cap relief with upside in FantasyScore contests Friday.

Orioles | J.J. Hardy still not pain-free

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 13:38:16 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SS J.J. Hardy (shoulder) will not begin a rehab assignment until he is pain-free for a few days, according to manager Buck Showalter. The organization is hopeful Hardy can begin a rehab assignment next week.

Fantasy Tip: Hardy is likely still two weeks away from fantasy contributions in a best-case scenario. He has shown nice pop for a shortstop in the past, but fell to just nine home runs last season after topping 20 in each of the previous three years. Plus, at 32, Hardy's best offensive years are likely in the rear-view mirror. He is worth owning in the majority of seasonal leagues, but expectations should be kept in check. Take a wait-and-see approach with Hardy in FantasyScore contests.

Orioles | Matt Wieters catches

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 13:34:02 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters (elbow) caught a couple innings in an extended spring training game Friday, April 24. It was the second consecutive day he caught.

Fantasy Tip: Wieters is working his way back from Tommy John surgery and should continued to be stashed in all fantasy formats. In the meantime, Caleb Joseph ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) is an upside FantasyScore play and holds fleeting value in deep mixed and AL-only seasonal leagues. Continue to check back for updates on Wieters' recovery progress and for a timeline on his return.

Orioles | Steve Pearce sitting again vs. Boston

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 13:30:20 -0700

Baltimore Orioles OF Steve Pearce is not in the starting lineup against the Boston Red Sox Friday, April 24.

Fantasy Tip: Pearce ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) has now started just one of the last six games, and he is currently sporting a .149 batting average through 52 plate appearances. In the majority of leagues there is no reason to stick with Pearce, as the replacement level at first base and in the outfield is high. FantasyScore players should avoid him until he shows signs of life at the plate, too.

Orioles | Delmon Young batting sixth vs. Red Sox

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 13:26:54 -0700

Balitmore Orioles OF Delmon Young is batting sixth and playing right field against the Boston Red Sox Friday, April 24.

Fantasy Tip: Young ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) has been solid in limited playing time to begin the season going 9-for-28 at the dish. However, he has traditionally been a better hitter against left-handed pitching in his career. FantasyScore players should view Young as a cap-relief flier Friday.

Orioles | Travis Snider sitting vs. Boston

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 13:20:02 -0700

Baltimore Orioles OF Travis Snider is not in the starting lineup against the Boston Red Sox Friday, April 24. OF/DH Delmon Young is starting in right field and batting sixth Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to remove Snider from your fantasy lineups Friday. He is off to a nice start (.304 batting average, seven runs and nine RBI) and should be owned in all deep mixed and AL-only leagues. Young ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) has been a better hitter against left-handed hurlers during his career, and should be viewed as nothing more than a low-priced flier in FantasyScore contests Friday.

Orioles | Manny Machado promoted to two hole

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 13:12:09 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 3B Manny Machado is batting second against the Boston Red Sox Friday, April 24.

Fantasy Tip: Jumping up the order stands to help Machado's ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) ability to score runs, but it'll slightly hurt his RBI potential. He is coming off a two-homer game, and FantasyScore players should look for him to continue his current offensive surge and extend his three-game hitting streak.

Orioles | Manny Machado's bat waking up

Thu, 23 Apr 2015 21:05:48 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 3B Manny Machado went 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs in a loss to the Toronto Blue Jays Thursday, April 23, and he has multiple hits in three of his last five games.

Fantasy Tip: Machado ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) has raised his average from .132 to .218 over the five-game stretch, and he could keep the momentum going Friday against Boston starter Rick Porcello, who brings a 6.63 ERA into the game. Don't be afraid to look Machado's way at FantasyScore.

Orioles | Delmon Young starting against righty

Thu, 23 Apr 2015 12:32:01 -0700

Baltimore Orioles OF Delmon Young is starting in right field and hitting fifth in the batting order against Toronto Blue Jays SP Drew Hutchison Thursday, April 23.

Fantasy Tip: Young ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) normally starts against left-handed pitchers because of his career splits, but he also hit .312 (49-for-157) with five of his seven home runs against right-handers in 2014. He's not a bad FantasyScore play while hitting in the middle of the Baltimore order in a hitter's park.

Orioles | Jimmy Paredes starting at 2B

Thu, 23 Apr 2015 12:28:16 -0700

Baltimore Orioles OF Jimmy Paredes is starting at second base and hitting second in the batting order against Toronto Blue Jays SP Drew Hutchison.

Fantasy Tip: Paredes ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) hit his first home run of the season last night and is hitting .438 (7-for-16) in the early going. The second spot in the lineup is intriguing for Paredes, and FantasyScore owners need to consider him for a lineup spot Thursday to save money elsewhere.

Orioles | Alejandro De Aza sitting

Thu, 23 Apr 2015 12:24:29 -0700

Baltimore Orioles OF Alejandro De Aza is not in the starting lineup Thursday, April 23. OF David Lough is starting in left field and hitting leadoff against Toronto Blue Jays SP Drew Hutchison.

Fantasy Tip: Lough ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is hitless in just five at-bats this season, but he's an intriguing buy-low candidate at FantasyScore today while hitting in Baltimore's top spot in a hitter's park in Rogers Centre.

Orioles | Hitless game for Caleb Joseph

Wed, 22 Apr 2015 22:30:28 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Caleb Joseph was hitless in three at-bats with a walk, run scored and two strikeouts Wednesday, April 22, against the Toronto Blue Jays to snap a career-high seven-game hit streak.

Fantasy Tip: Joseph remains a solid value in FantasyScore at $1,900 (or 3.8% of cap) despite the hitless game, as he is still hitting .333.

Orioles | Adam Jones cooled off

Wed, 22 Apr 2015 22:30:01 -0700

Baltimore Orioles OF Adam Jones was hitless in three at-bats Wednesday, April 22, to snap a six-game hitting streak against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Fantasy Tip: Jones has hit well against Toronto, and one hitless game won't change that. Heck, he is hitting well against everyone, especially left-handed pitching. At $6,000 (or 12.0% of cap) he is a must-start in FantasyScore until these hitless games become the rule, not an exception.
