The Baltimore Orioles still do not know what they will do with OF Steve Pearce heading into 2015. The team will likely lose OF Nelson Cruz and OF Nick Markakis to free agency, and OF Alejandro De Aza's return is uncertain.

Updating a previous report, if the Baltimore Orioles give OF Nick Markakis a $2 million buyout instead of his $17.5 million option, they could still make him a qualifying offer and work out a long-term deal.

Although the team did not give a specific amount, Baltimore Orioles executive vice president Dan Duquette said the 2015 payroll would likely be higher. Duquette notes that he still needs to meet with team ownership to discuss the payroll, but he expresses confidence that it will rise. "The important thing for our fans to know is that we've increased our payroll over the last couple years," says Duquette. "I expect that we'll be able to increase our payroll because the fans have responded to our team the last couple of years."

Updating a previous item, Baltimore Orioles SS J.J. Hardy will earn $11.5 million in 2015, $12.5 million in 2016 and $14 million in 2017 as part of a three-year, $40 million contract. There is a vesting option that is valued at $14 million as well and comes with a $2 million buyout. The option will vest based on a certain number of plate appearances but will also automatically vest if Hardy is traded. Hardy can also earn up to $700,000 per season in performance incentives.
