Baltimore Orioles news, rumors and injuries

Baltimore Orioles SP Bud Norris (illness) has had his return to the team pushed back due to bronchitis. He will not start as originally planned on Thursday, May 28, and Norris will go to Class AA Bowie for rehab.
Fantasy Tip: Norris ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) has struggled as it is, but the team would rather he feel 100 percent than still pitch sick. Keep an eye on his progress.

Fantasy Tip: Hardy ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) may need a few days to let the tightness dissipate or this could be a recurring problem. For now, shelve Hardy until more news is announced. Everth Cabrera ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) will see any time at shortstop, most likely.

Fantasy Tip: Snider ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) likely is sitting out because the team is facing a left-handed pitcher. De Aza ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) has been on a bit of a cold steak at the plate this month and has four hits in his last seven games. Owners on FantasyScore could consider using De Aza as a cheaper option, but there are likely better options available.

Fantasy Tip: Cabrera ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) recently returned from the disabled list and is back in the starting lineup. Cabrera could be a risky option on FantasyScore since he is still coming back from his injury and is batting only .212 so far this season.

Fantasy Tip: Davis ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) is not in the lineup for the first time since opening day. Pearce ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) has only five hits in his last nine games and is batting .188 for the season. Owners on FantasyScore should be able to find better options to use.

Fantasy Tip: Lavarnway ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has just one multi-hit game and one run scored on the season. FantasyScore owners need to look elsewhere.
Sun, 24 May 2015 08:25:29 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Cabrera ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) is a switch-hitter who slightly favors right-handed pitchers. Cabrera shouldn't be highly owned against Marlins righty Tom Koehler, making him a deep flier in GPP tournaments.
Sun, 24 May 2015 08:21:09 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Lough ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is hitting just .231 for the season, even with a .313 BABIP. FantasyScore owners shouldn't be considering Lough for any type of lineup.

Baltimore Orioles SP Mike Wright allowed three hits but zero runs through seven scoreless innings Saturday, May 23, against the Miami Marlins. Wright is yet to allow a run through the first 14 innings of his starting career. It is the longest streak by an Orioles pitcher since David Ford started with 15 scoreless innings in 1978, according to STATS.
Fantasy Tip: Wright ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) is next scheduled for Friday, May 29, against the Tampa Bay Rays. Wright should be highly used in GPP tournaments with a favorable opponent.

Fantasy Tip: Norris ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) hadn't pitched since May 10, and manager Buck Showalter had hoped to have him back sometime this week. It looks like that may not happen now. With a 9.88 ERA in six starts this spring, you have to wonder if the Orioles pull the plug.
Sat, 23 May 2015 13:13:54 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Paredes ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has gone without a hit in only one of his last 19 games. Paredes is a switch-hitter who is hitting .361 against right-handed pitchers this season. The Orioles will go up against Marlins RHP Dan Haren Saturday, making Paredes a very safe option with a high upside as he bats out of the two-hole.

Fantasy Tip: Miranda is not expected to make an impact at the major league level anytime soon but fantasy owners in keeper and dynasty leagues may want to keep tabs on him.

Baltimore Orioles 2B Everth Cabrera (foot) was activated from the 15-day disabled list Friday, May 22, and the Orioles optioned 2B Rey Navarro to Class AAA Norfolk in a corresponding move. Cabrera had a slash line of .208/.240/.250 with a double, RBI and three runs in six games with Norfolk. Before going on the DL, Cabrera was hitless in his last 17 at-bats and was 5-for-37 in 11 games.
Fantasy Tip: Cabrera ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) could be in a platoon with Steve Pearce ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) at second base until Jonathan Schoop returns from the DL. Cabrera can also fill in at shortstop when J.J. Hardy needs a breather. Cabrera, however, is a low-end second base play until we see him break out of his offensive funk, and limited playing time doesn't help his cause.

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters (hamstring, elbow) will work out with the team this weekend while making throws and catching bullpens and will then head out on a rehab assignment with Class AA Bowie Tuesday, May 26. He thinks it's still realistic for him to come off the disabled list June 4, when eligible. His arm continues to get stronger, but he hasn't caught in consecutive games yet. He will play every other day at Bowie, and he's been swinging daily without pain.
Fantasy Tip: Wieters ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) shouldn't be affected as much swinging the bat when he's back in the majors, and he could immediately become one of the better FantasyScore catchers when he's starting on a regular basis. Caleb Joseph ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has held down the fort nicely (.260-3-14), but he'll likely go back to a backup role when Wieters is ready.

Baltimore Orioles OFs Travis Snider and Alejandro De Aza are both in the starting lineup against Miami Marlins SP Henderson Alvarez Friday, May 22. Snider is starting in left field and hitting fifth in the batting order, while De Aza is in right field and hitting seventh. OF Delmon Young is not starting against a right-hander.
Fantasy Tip: Snider ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) and De Aza ($2,900) have both been inconsistent offensive weapons at FantasyScore with uneven playing time in 2015. Both lefty bats have been underwhelming against right-handed pitchers, but all four of their home runs have come against that side. Playing in a pitcher-friendly venue tonight, neither should be considered anything more than dice rolls at FantasyScore.
