Baltimore Orioles news, rumors and injuries

Baltimore Orioles OF Steve Pearce hit his first career grand slam in a winning effort Thursday, May 21. It was his fourth home run of the season and second since April 7. He finished the game 1-for-3 with a run, four RBI and a walk, and his average currently sits at .198 on the year.
Fantasy Tip: Pearce ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) is unlikely to reach the 20-homer mark again in 2015. He won't help in the average department, either, and he's no longer an everyday player with the emergence of Jimmy Paredes at DH. Pearce is strictly a matchup play at FantasyScore, and a midrange one at that.

Fantasy Tip: Lavarnway ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is hitting .136 (3-for-22) and should be ignored at FantasyScore.
Thu, 21 May 2015 08:36:04 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Cabrera ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) wasn't making a significant impact before the injury, especially where his biggest value lies in the stolen base department. He stands to see plenty of at-bats at second base, and he'll maintain fleeting value in AL-only and deep mixed leagues until Jonathan Shoop returns from his knee injury. FantasyScore players should view Cabrera as a desperation flier until he proves otherwise.

Fantasy Tip: De Aza ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) is nothing more than a low-priced flier for FantasyScore players Thursday. However, it is worth noting he had a three-hit game in his last start Tuesday, May 19.

Baltimore Orioles SP Bud Norris (illness) will start Friday, May 22, for Class AAA Norfolk (Va.). Norris is eligible to come off the disabled list Tuesday, May 26, but it seems more likely he'll be activated prior to the Orioles' doubleheader Thursday, May 28.
Fantasy Tip: Norris ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) had an ERA of 9.88 prior to landing on the DL. Until some positive results are seen, Norris won't be a FantasyScore option, and he should be dropped in all season-long leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Jones ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) regularly leads off for the Orioles, leading to his 20 runs scored. Jones also has 25 RBI and six home runs on the season. Jones should be regarded as one of the top outfield options on FantasyScore.
Wed, 20 May 2015 19:07:59 -0700
Baltimore Orioles SP Wei-Yin Chen suffered his third loss of the season Wednesday, May 20, against the Seattle Mariners. Chen allowed four runs and eight hits over seven innings. It was the first time in eight starts this season Chen allowed more than three runs.
Fantasy Tip: Chen ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) has been benefiting from an opponent BABIP of just .222 through 42 and two-third innings. Chen's 4.57 xFIP signals more regression on the way and FantasyScore owners will need to proceed with severe caution when considering using Chen in lineups.
Wed, 20 May 2015 17:14:46 -0700
Baltimore Orioles SP Dylan Bundy does not have to pitch for Class AAA Norfolk (Va.) in order to join the Orioles, according to manager Buck Showalter. Bundy could be an option for the team in June if he pitches well in the minor leagues.
Fantasy Tip: Bundy is playing his first full season since undergoing surgery, so his performance in the minors will determine if he will pitch for the Orioles this season. Owners should monitor the situation to see if Bundy will be an option down the road.

Fantasy Tip: Norris ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) will make a rehab start with Class AAA Norfolk (Va.) Friday, May 22, and the plan is for him to rejoin the Orioles' rotation after that. He has allowed at least three runs in each start this season and is currently sporting a 9.88 ERA. Until he strings a few solid starts together, there is no reason to depend on him in any fantasy format.

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters (elbow, hamstring) experienced hamstring tightness, but he is still expected to catch Thursday, May 21. He is currently on a rehab assignment with Class AA Bowie (Md.).
Fantasy Tip: Wieters ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) is expected to join the Orioles sometime in early June, and he will be a boost to lineups in the real and fake game. Continue to stash him in all formats and check back for updates on his progress. Upon his return, FantasyScore players could have a nice bargain on their hands from the beginning, although, it wouldn't be out of the question for him to struggle through an adjustment period at the dish initially.

Baltimore Orioles OF Steve Pearce is starting in left field and hitting sixth in the batting order against Seattle Mariners SP Roenis Elias Wednesday, May 20. OF Alejandro De Aza is on the bench against a left-hander.
Fantasy Tip: Pearce ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) has had a disappointing season up to this point, and he's only hitting .222 (4-for-18) with four RBI against left-handed pitching in 2015. Until we see more out of Pearce, he's a weak FantasyScore play.
Tue, 19 May 2015 19:34:11 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Gausman ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) appears to be making progress in his recovery but probably still a few weeks away from returning to the rotation. Owners on FantasyScore should not consider Gausman until he is able to make a start or two for the Orioles.
Tue, 19 May 2015 19:15:35 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Paredes ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has been playing very well this month and has at least one hit in 15 of the last 16 games. Paredes should be a solid starting option FantasyScore as long as he is on his hot streak.
Tue, 19 May 2015 18:49:56 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Tillman ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) owns a 6.34 ERA and a 5.09 xFIP through seven starts this season. FantasyScore owners need to look elsewhere until Tillman strings a couple of solid outings together.
Tue, 19 May 2015 18:40:35 -0700
Baltimore Orioles OF Jimmy Paredes needs three more plate appearances to be eligible for MLB rankings as of Tuesday, May 19. Once eligible, Paredes will be leading the American League with a .346 batting average.
Fantasy Tip: Paredes ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has five home runs, 17 runs scored and 18 RBI on the season with one stolen base. Continuing to bat near the top of the Orioles order, Paredes will continue to be a valuable fantasy asset if he can keep getting on base.
