Baltimore Orioles news, rumors and injuries

Fantasy Tip: Gallardo remains in free agency because the team is hesitant to part with their first-round draft pick (14th overall) to sign him. The soon-to-be 30-year-old righty won 13 games with a 3.42 ERA in 33 starts last season but also posted a 1.416 WHIP and struck out a career-low 5.9 batters per nine innings. Gallardo should be viewed as a late-round flier option in deep mixed and single-universe fantasy leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Britton has 73 saves over the past two seasons with a 1.77 ERA, a 0.94 WHIP and a 8.9 K/9. His 77.0 ground-ball percentage is equally impressive, and Britton checks out as a second-tier closer. He is an excellent target to hone in on after the top options come off the draft board on draft day.

Fantasy Tip: Lincecum went 7-4 with a 4.13 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in 15 starts last season with the San Francisco Giants before eventually undergoing hip surgery. The four-time All-Star hasn't posted a sub-4.37 ERA in four years and his strikeout totals have dropped precipitously over the last three. Lincecum's decline has been somewhat mitigated by the cozy dimensions of AT&T Park but would likely get exposed with the move to Camden Yards, making him a pitcher to ignore on draft day if he winds up in Baltimore.

Free-agent SP Gavin Floyd (Indians) has been throwing off a mound for more than two weeks. The Baltimore Orioles had interest in him last month and they are likely to continue monitoring his progress.
Fantasy Tip: Floyd was used exclusively out of the bullpen by the Indians near the end of the 2015 season after being sidelined for most of the year with a stress fracture in his right elbow, posting a 2.70 ERA in seven appearances. He is completely healthy now but is nothing more than a fringe option in single-universe leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Despaigne had an ugly 5.80 ERA with the Friars last season, and his prospects moving to Camden Yards don't look well. He's a fringe AL-only option.

Fantasy Tip: Cashner had a down year in 2015 with a 6-16 record and 4.34 ERA in a career-high 184 2/3 innings. However, he still has good swing-and-miss stuff (8.0 strikeouts per nine) but must show better control. A move to hitter-friendly Camden Yards would further put a damper on his fantasy value coming off a disappointing season.

Fantasy Tip: Bundy is out of minor league options, and he'll be in the bullpen if he makes the team. He's one to keep on your watch list and potentially snag off waivers.
Sun, 24 Jan 2016 07:42:34 -0800
Fantasy Tip: Baltimore had been rumored to have interest in free-agent SP Yovani Gallardo (Rangers) but they would have to part with their first-round draft pick if they signed him, making it increasingly likely that they will fill the void with someone already inside the organization. All of the current candidates are nothing more than late-round fliers in AL-only fantasy leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Davis will be a low-end OF1 option due to his big power in that ballpark.

The Baltimore Orioles do not want to give up a first-round pick in order to sign free-agent SP Yovani Gallardo (Rangers), according to general manager Dan Duquette. They also haven't made an offer to free-agent SP Doug Fister (Nationals) and don't think free-agent SP Cliff Lee (elbow) is ready to pitch.
Fantasy Tip: Fister is probably the the most intriguing pitcher of the three because of his heavy ground-ball profile as depth for your deep mixed rotation, but a move to the hitter-friendly environment of Camden Yards would kill a lot of optimism.

Fantasy Tip: Cespedes will be overpriced no matter where he lands this offseason after the monster 2015 season he had. He's a high-end second outfielder for fantasy owners, however, and if he lands in a favorable hitting environment he'll be that much more expensive.

Baltimore Orioles 1B Chris Davis will make $17 million annually from 2016 to 2022 and will receive an extra annual payments through 2037, when he will be 51 years of age, according to a source. There is no interest accrued on the deferrals.

Fantasy Tip: In 64 appearances last season, Britton went 4-1 with a 1.92 ERA and 36 saves. He struck out 79 batters over 65 2/3 innings and led the American League in games finished (58) while making the All-Star team for the first time in his career. He should be one of the first closers selected in all fantasy formats.
Sat, 16 Jan 2016 06:37:52 -0800
Fantasy Tip: Davis is coming off a terrific 2015 season where he hit .262 with 47 home runs and 117 RBI. Davis should be in the middle of the lineup for the Orioles this season and probably will be an early-round pick because of his power.
Fri, 15 Jan 2016 11:32:40 -0800
Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez's numbers were a little rough, and he's a depth starter in AL-only formats.
