Fantasy Tip: Britton plans to wear a brace on his ankle when he returns to action, which could be any day now. Keep him in all starting lineups. Darren O'Day recorded the save in Britton's absence last night, but with Britton expected to return soon, O'Day will return to his eighth-inning setup role.

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters and 1B Pedro Alvarez are not in the starting lineup against New York Yankees left-handed SP CC Sabathia Wednesday, May 4. OF Nolan Reimold draws into the lineup in left field and is batting sixth, while C Caleb Joseph is behind the plate and hitting eighth.
Fantasy Tip: Reimold is having a fine year so far (.343, three home runs), and he has seven hits in 20 at-bats, including one home run, against southpaws in 2016. He's certainly one to consider as a low-priced flier in daily formats. Joseph is barely over the Mendoza Line and is a desperation DFS pick.

Fantasy Tip: O'Day will get his chance in the ninth inning with CL Zach Britton on the shelf with an ankle injury. He is a decent short-term fantasy option in AL-only fantasy formats.

Fantasy Tip: Trumbo continues to resurgence, increasing his batting average to .337 with a team-high eight homers and 22 RBIs. He is a must-start in all fantasy formats and a DFS stud while running hot.

Baltimore Orioles 3B Manny Machado started at shortstop Tuesday, May 3, against the New York Yankees with SS J.J. Hardy (foot) on the 15-day disabled list. Machado handled all his chances without incident while 2B Ryan Flaherty slid over to third and was effective. He has a .450/.522/.750 slash line over his past five outings, posting four multi-hit games.
Fantasy Tip: Machado went 1-for-3 with a walk, hitting safely for the fifth straight game after a four-game hitless skid from April 24-27. Machado remains a must-start fantasy option, and his ability to bounce back is why you never bench him despite a cool streak.

Baltimore Orioles SP Chris Tillman posted his third consecutive quality start Tuesday, May 3, against the New York Yankees, allowing just one run over seven innings. "Since the first day of spring training, it's been - I don't know if 'encouraging' is the word - just kind of a reminder of how good he's capable of being and how good he's been for us," manager Buck Showalter said. Tillman has allowed three runs over his past three starts covering 19 2/3 innings.
Fantasy Tip: Tillman matched a career high with nine strikeouts, accomplishing the feat for the second straight outing. He has re-emerged as a must-start in all fantasy leagues and DFS play.

Baltimore Orioles RP Zach Britton's (ankle) MRI exam showed no structural damage to his left ankle, and he'll attempt to play catch Tuesday, May 3. Britton said he thinks he should be able to return sometime this week. He's taking it day-to-day. "I feel a lot better (compared to Saturday night)," Britton said. "I think flexibility, range of motion is back. It's just swollen. It's got some bruising, but as long as I can manage the pain, I think that's going to be the biggest issue."
Fantasy Tip: Britton should avoid a stint on the DL unless he has a setback. The O's haven't had a save chance since Britton was hurt over the weekend, so it's anybody's guess between Darren O'Day, Brad Brach and Mychal Givens as to who Buck Showalter would use in place of Britton. With Britton likely back soon, the urgency to pick up one of the other relievers for save chances is minimal.

Baltimore Orioles 3B Manny Machado moves over to shortstop to face New York Yankees SP Luis Severino Tuesday, May 3. 2B Ryan Flaherty is starting at third base and is batting ninth in the batting order.
Fantasy Tip: With J.J. Hardy (fractured foot) on the DL, expect this setup to be the norm for a while. Flaherty is only a depth option in AL-only leagues. The biggest thing to note is that Machado should now gain shortstop eligibility this year and for the 2017 season. He's already one of the top third baseman in the league, and this could vault him to a top-three fantasy pick next year.

Baltimore Orioles SS J.J. Hardy (foot) was diagnosed with a hairline fracture on his left foot, and he's expected to miss six to eight weeks. Hardy will land on the disabled list. He was hitting .244/.291/.410 with seven doubles, two home runs and eight RBI in 22 games. 2B Ryan Flaherty is expected to be called up from Class AAA Norfolk to replace Hardy on roster. 3B Manny Machado can slide over to shortstop, with Flaherty seeing the bulk of starts at third base.
Fantasy Tip: You can find healthy and possibly more productive shortstop options to replace Hardy in most mixed leagues. Chris Davis and Pedro Alvarez could also slide to third base, but moving Machado over likely makes the most sense. That'll likely give Machado shortstop eligibility this year and next, which could vault him to a top-three pick in 2017 drafts. Flaherty could be useful for depth in AL-only leagues if he sees enough playing time.

Fantasy Tip: Britton is day-to-day right now and looks like he'll avoid the DL. If he misses any save opportunities this week, Darren O'Day is likely to see chances in the ninth inning. Scoop him up immediately if he's available in your league and you're seeking saves, but keep in mind it could be short-lived.

Baltimore Orioles RP Zach Britton (ankle) is hoping to avoid the disabled list. However, he was using crutches when he spoke to reporters Sunday, May 1, and was in a walking boot. "It feels pretty good compared to yesterday, how it feels this morning, but it's still some tenderness in there and obviously I'm not walking great. I think you've got to walk fine before I can even start pitching again. Hopefully, it's just a few days and I can maybe throw a bullpen or something, or at least run on it and see how it feels," Britton said. Manager Buck Showalter said Britton remains day-to-day, and Showalter would not name a closer with Britton out.
Fantasy Tip: It's really up in the air what Showalter may do in the ninth if Britton is unavailable. The O's could elect to keep Darren O'Day in an eighth-inning setup role, which would set up Brad Brach or Mychal Givens for save chances. O'Day and Brach should be your first targets if you're looking for saves, but keep in mind this could be a fluid situation. And Britton may not miss much time when it's all said and done.

Fantasy Tip: X-rays came back negative on Sunday, but the Orioles want to do their due diligence to make sure there is nothing wrong structurally. Darren O'Day is the most likely reliever to take over as the closer should Britton miss time, so he is probably worth a speculative add for any owner desperate for saves.

Updating a previous story, Baltimore Orioles SS J.J. Hardy (foot) is scheduled to undergo a CT scan on Monday, May 2, after fouling a ball off of his left foot. According to a source, X-rays on the foot revealed something the team wants to check further, although manager Buck Showalter did not divulge any further details.
Fantasy Tip: Owners should be prepared for a stint on the disabled list at this point, which would likely mean Manny Machado logging a number of starts at shortstop while Pedro Alvarez mans the hot corner. Machado is an obvious must-start, while Alvarez should be picked up in whatever leagues in which he is available; despite batting only .216 after today's action, he has picked it up a bit after a slow start with three multi-hit games over his last five.

Baltimore Orioles SS J.J. Hardy (foot) left the game on Sunday, May 1, against the Chicago White Sox after fouling a ball off his left foot. 3B Pedro Alvarez replaced him in the batting order, while 3B/SS Manny Machado slid over from third to play shortstop.
Fantasy Tip: The Orioles figure to make some kind of announcement about the seriousness of this injury in the next few hours. Baltimore doesn't lose much offensively as a result of the injury, although its defense takes a big hit. Hardy is a fringe fantasy option and shouldn't be out too long, however, so continue to use him as you normally would.

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters and 1B Pedro Alvarez are not in the starting lineup against Chicago White Sox SP Chris Sale Sunday, May 1. C Caleb Joseph will start at catcher and is batting ninth. OF Mark Trumbo will serve as the designated hitter, while OF Nolan Reimold will start in left field and is batting seventh.
Fantasy Tip: Joseph is hitting .226 with zero RBI this season and probably can be avoided by most owners. Reimold is 4-for-9 with one home run and three RBI over the last seven days and could be a sleeper option for owners in daily fantasy leagues.
