Fantasy Tip: Tillman ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) has a career ERA over 4.00 on the road, and he'll face the Tampa Bay Rays in Tampa on opening day. He also has an ERA over 4.00 in his career against the Rays. It all adds up to Tillman being a pretty mediocre option at FantasyScore in opening day contests.

Fantasy Tip: Wieters ($4,500, 9.0% of your cap) will be a midrange catcher option on FantasyScore upon his return.

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters (elbow) is simply focusing on health and not on Opening Day. "It's more when it's ready," Wieters said. "I think that's the thing that's probably a little bit easier for me than trying to say 'OK, we have to be ready by here or we have to be ready by here.'"
Fantasy Tip: Wieters is still worth drafting in most every fantasy league, so long as you know he won't be available for a stretch following the season opener. Wieters is doing rehab on his terms and not rushing it, so he should be healthy upon return.

Fantasy Tip: Daily leagues are the ones where Joseph owners could see the most benefit, as Joseph will see time behind the plate for at least a few weeks. As for other leagues, Joseph carries lesser fantasy value because Wieters will eventually return to active duty.

Fantasy Tip: This is good news for Chen, who looks like a solid selection in the middle to late rounds of most fantasy drafts. Chen will pitch in at least the third spot, meaning the likelihood of his turn getting skipped with days off is minimal.

The Baltimore Orioles and representatives for SP Chris Tillman are reportedly working on a contract extension that would keep him with the team beyond the 2017 season, although negotiations are not likely to continue once the regular season begins.
Fantasy Tip: Despite pitching in one of baseball's most hitter-friendly divisions, Tillman has gone 38-16 with a 3.42 ERA since joining Baltimore's starting rotation on a full-time basis in July 2012. He's likely to be available in the later rounds of universal fantasy drafts, due in part to his low K/9 rate last season (6.5).

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters (elbow) is "unlikely" to begin the season with the team, manager Buck Showalter said Saturday, March 21. Showalter noted Wieters' recovery is going well and this should not be considered a setback, but Wieters would begin the season on the disabled list if he is unable to catch.
Fantasy Tip: Remember Wieters is recovering from Tommy John surgery, and to this point, it hasn't been an issue with his hitting. Defense is the concern for Showalter and the organization. For fantasy purposes, expect Wieters' stock to continue to fall a little, which should make him a great value on draft day. Even with missed time, Wieters has the upside to return near-elite numbers among his backstop peers.

Fantasy Tip: De Aza ($2,900, 5.8%) is currently slotted in as the Orioles starting left fielder. De Aza stole 17 bases last season in 142 games played, split between the Orioles and the Chicago White Sox. De Aza's power numbers dropped last season after hitting a career high 17 home runs in 2013, but he'll be a high-upside option at a low cost to begin the year.

Updating a previous report, Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters (elbow) took ground balls and and did light throwing Friday, March 20. Manager Buck Showalter said they are taking a week-to-week approach with Wieters, and the catcher will see the team orthopedist Dr. Michael Jacobs to make sure everything checks out with Wieters' elbow. Wieters is still targeting Wednesday, March 25, and said, "We'll take a look at it on Wednesday and see how it is and make a decision after that. Hopefully it will be good by Wednesday and be able to get back going."
Fantasy Tip: At this point, Wieters is in serous danger of beginning the season on the disabled list. However, it may present additional profit potential, as the catcher is likely to fall even further down draft boards with this setback. The concern is defensive, though, and not a hindrance to his offense, so fantasy owners shouldn't be overly concerned about his fantasy production. Continue to check back for updates on Wieters' recovery and return timeline.

Fantasy Tip: Wieters is dealing with tendonitis in his right elbow after catching for the first time this week in a spring game. He's beginning to run out of time to prove to the team that he can catch before the regular season, however, and he might be left off the opening day roster if he can't prove himself fully healthy. The good news is that Wieters' elbow is mainly affecting his defense. He comes with a significant injury discount in drafts this year, and the recent injury news will make owners more hesitant to take him. Even if Wieters misses the start of the season, he could be a huge bargain in drafts.

Fantasy Tip: The Orioles are being cautious with Wieters ($4,500, 9.0% of cap), and he remains a viable option in the later middle rounds of drafts. The injury scare could enable him to fall even further down draft boards, too. The problem isn't his bat, either, as his defense behind the plate is the main concern. Another plus for fantasy owners. In FantasyScore contests, it would be wise to allow Wieters time to prove his health before utilizing him in contests.

Fantasy Tip: Wieters ($4,500; 9.0% of your cap) is running out of time to be ready for the start of the season. Regardless of the results of the exam, he's very iffy for the opener. Avoid him in the early goings on FantasyScore.

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters (elbow) will be shut down from catching for a week after he made his spring debut behind the plate Tuesday, March 17. He came in Wednesday, March 18, with elbow tendonitis, but the team isn't very concerned. The earliest Wieters could serve as the designated hitter would be Sunday, March 22, according to manager Buck Showalter. Showalter also said this doesn't mean that Wieters won't play on opening day. However, the manager also said the team probably won't have Wieters on the roster on opening day if he can't catch.
Fantasy Tip: This is a development to watch for anyone considering drafting Wieters. It'll likely scare off more owners in drafts, too, making him even more of a value pick in the middle rounds. The main concern with Wieters is his defense behind the plate, which should make fantasy baseball owners more confident that he'll bounce back at the plate to the near-elite levels he displayed before his injury in 2014.

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters (elbow) is scheduled to catch in his first spring game Tuesday, March 17. He is currently 0-for-20 at the plate as the designated hitter in Grapefruit League play. He has been throwing at 70-80%, but the team was encouraged with his throws over the weekend. Wieters is expected to catch five to seven innings Tuesday.
Fantasy Tip: Wieters will likely come at a slight injury discount this year after having Tommy John surgery in 2014. Although it won't affect his hitting nearly as much as his throws behind the plate, many drafters may be skeptical of taking a chance on him. Remember, though, he was hitting at an elite level before the injury last year, so he could be a fine value in 2015.

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters (elbow), who will not catch in a spring game until March 17, is hitless in 20 at-bats so far in spring training with four strikeouts and a walk in six Grapefruit League games. He is set to play in the game Saturday, March 14, and a "B" game Sunday, March 15.
Fantasy Tip: There's a chance the team will play it cautious and make Wieters unavailable for the season opener. Coming off TJS, many drafters could forget that he was playing at an elite level before his elbow injury. There is plenty to like about Wieters rebounding and being a nice value, especially since his injury will affect his throwing much more than his hitting.
