Orioles | Dylan Bundy placed on DL

Thu, 28 May 2015 15:55:12 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Dylan Bundy (shoulder) was placed on the disabled list Thursday, May 28, due to soreness. The move was made retroactively to Tuesday, May 26. Bundy had been playing for Class AA Bowie.

Fantasy Tip: Bundy owns a 3.68 ERA through eight starts at Class AA, with a strikeout rate of 10.23 batters per nine innings. DL stints are only required to be seven days in the minor leagues, so owners should be able to eagerly anticipate Bundy's arrival in the major leagues before too long.

Orioles | Manny Machado ejected

Thu, 28 May 2015 15:31:58 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 3B Manny Machado was ejected from Game 1 of the doubleheader Thursday, May 28, against the Chicago White Sox. Machado argued a strike call on a check-swing attempt to end the eighth inning.

Fantasy Tip: Machado ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) is well known for his fiery temper that can occasionally lead to shortened outings. When able to stay on the field, Machado is an excellent FantasyScore asset, with the ability to steal bases and hit home runs. With Chris Davis heating up behind him in the order, Machado can be regularly used.

Orioles | Tyler Wilson goes five scoreless

Thu, 28 May 2015 15:25:37 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Tyler Wilson pitched five scoreless innings in his first major league start Thursday, May 28, in the first game of the doubleheader against the Chicago White Sox.

Fantasy Tip: Wilson had previously made two appearances as a reliever this season. Wilson finished with five hits, one walk and two earned runs allowed in six-plus innings pitched. Wilson struck out just one hitter, and he's not guaranteed any more starts.

Orioles | Chris Davis homers again

Thu, 28 May 2015 15:10:47 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 1B Chris Davis homered for the third time in two games, Thursday, May 28. Davis hit a two-run home run in the ninth inning of Game 1 of Thursday's doubleheader.

Fantasy Tip: Davis ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) went 2-for-5 in the game with a walk, a double, a home run, two runs scored, three RBI and zero strikeouts. Davis is up to 11 homers on the season, and his upside has returned on FantasyScore. Season-long owners willing to accept a drastic hit to their batting average should target Davis in trades.

Orioles | Travis Snider playing in Game 2

Thu, 28 May 2015 13:24:20 -0700

Baltimore Orioles OF Travis Snider is starting in right field and batting second in Game 2 of the doubleheader against the Chicago White Sox Thursday, May 28. OF David Lough is batting ninth and playing left field.

Fantasy Tip: After a strong start to the season (seven runs, a home run, nine RBI and a .304/.396/.457 slash line through 14 games), Snider ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) has just four runs and a .217/.308/.261 slash line over his last 19 games. Until Snider shows more life at the plate, he should be viewed as a cap relief flier in FantasyScore contests and nothing more than an AL-only option in seasonal leagues.

Orioles | Wei-Yin Chen's injury not arm-related

Thu, 28 May 2015 13:19:39 -0700

Updating a previous report, Baltimore Orioles SP Wei-Yin Chen's (undisclosed) soreness was not in his pitching arm, and he was fine after his workout Thursday, May 28, according to manager Buck Showalter.

Fantasy Tip: Just because the arm injury wasn't arm related doesn't enter Chen ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) into safe territory for FantasyScore players. At best, Chen is a high-risk source of cap relief. His 4.35 FIP is much higher than his 3.13 ERA, so season-long owners should expect a few hiccups ahead.

Orioles | Wei-Yin Chen starting Saturday

Thu, 28 May 2015 13:09:31 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Wei-Yin Chen (undisclosed) will start against the Tampa Bay Rays Saturday, May 30.

Fantasy Tip: Chen ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) has been dealing with undisclosed soreness, and while it may not be arm related, it is a concern. FantasyScore players should view Chen as a high-risk, high-reward option for contests Sunday, and it isn't out of the question to bench him in seasonal formats. For the season, Chen has a 3.13 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and a 7.2 K/9. However, his 4.35 FIP suggests Chen could have rougher waters ahead.

Orioles | No decision on Bud Norris

Thu, 28 May 2015 10:37:48 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Bud Norris (illness) gave up four runs in five innings with Class AA Bowie Wednesday, May 27, and manager Buck Showalter said nothing has been decided on the next step for the right-hander. Norris could return to the rotation when he's eligible to return from the disabled list, or he could temporarily move to the bullpen.

Fantasy Tip: Norris ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) has allowed at least three earned runs in all of his six starts this year, and he owns a 9.88 ERA with 18 strikeouts in 27 1/3 frames in 2015. He should only be owned in cavernous AL-only formats, and he's an afterthought on FantasyScore.

Orioles | Wei-Yin Chen could be pushed back

Thu, 28 May 2015 10:33:41 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Wei-Yin Chen (undisclosed) could have his next start pushed back while dealing with undisclosed soreness. The team will wait to see if he makes it through a bullpen session Thursday, May 28, before committing to him.

Fantasy Tip: Chen ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) is currently lined up to start against the Tampa Bay Rays Saturday. He's allowed seven earned runs in his last 12 innings, and it'd be wise to avoid him at FantasyScore this weekend if he makes the start.

Orioles | Steve Pearce starting in LF

Thu, 28 May 2015 09:18:03 -0700

Baltimore Orioles OF Steve Pearce is starting in left field and hitting sixth in the batting order against Chicago White Sox SP Chris Sale Thursday, May 28. OF Travis Snider starts on the bench against a tough left-hander.

Fantasy Tip: Pearce ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) is hitting just .190 (20-for-105) this year, but he has six home runs after going deep yesterday. A meeting with Sale, one of the nastiest left-handers in the game, isn't a great time to use Pearce at FantasyScore, though.

Orioles | Ubaldo Jimenez roughed up

Wed, 27 May 2015 18:11:04 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Ubaldo Jimenez allowed a season-high 10 hits Wednesday, May 27, against the Houston Astros. Jimenez allowed one walk and four runs over seven innings, managing to strikeout five hitters.

Fantasy Tip: Jimenez ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) has allowed at least six hits in five consecutive starts. The strikeouts have been there for Jimenez, but he poses a lot of risk on FantasyScore, while allowing so many base runners.

Orioles | Steve Pearce hit sixth homer

Wed, 27 May 2015 18:07:27 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 2B Steve Pearce hit his sixth home run of the season Wednesday, May 27, against the Houston Astros.

Fantasy Tip: Pearce ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) has homered in two of his last three games. AL-only or deep, mixed league owners should be looking at Pearce once again. FantasyScore owners can give some consideration to Pearce against left-handed pitchers.

Orioles | Jimmy Paredes steals home

Wed, 27 May 2015 18:02:01 -0700

Baltimore Orioles OF Jimmy Paredes had two hits and he stole home Wednesday, May 27, against the Houston Astros.

Fantasy Tip: Paredes ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) stole just his third base of the season. Paredes has back-to-back multi-hit games and four of them in his last six games. Although his price has been on the rise, Paredes continues to be an excellent FantasyScore option.

Orioles | Chris Davis homers twice

Wed, 27 May 2015 17:53:33 -0700

Baltimore Orioles 1B Chris Davis hit two home runs Wednesday, May 27, against the Houston Astros.

Fantasy Tip: Davis ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) ended a 13-game homer-less drought, and he had hit just three doubles in that stretch. Davis continues to strikeout at a high rate, and he's a boom or bust FantasyScore option. Owners should be staying away, as the booms have been few and far between.

Orioles | Matt Wieters feeling good

Wed, 27 May 2015 16:39:43 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters (elbow) said he felt really good after going 2-for-4 in his first rehab game with Class AA Bowie Tuesday, May 26. Wieters also threw out a runner in the game. He'll catch again for Bowie Thursday, May 28, and Saturday, May 30, before the team decides where he'll continue his rehab. Barring a setback, Wieters is expected to return to the Orioles sometime late next week. However, it'll be a while before he'll be ready to catch on back-to-back days.

Fantasy Tip: Wieters ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) could be an immediate boost to fantasy teams, especially since his injury doesn't affect his hitting much at all. He could also be a great value play upon his return at FantasyScore. Caleb Joseph ($3,900, 7.8% of cap), who has filled in nicely with Wieters out, could continue to be serviceable in your daily lineups on the days when Wieters is resting.
